Hey there,

Well this is an easy and fun program to make: A sound box... B)

What is it?... Samples played when you press a key.
wave files/mp3s are grouped in a directory, within the program
you select the group and the program allocates the samples to
different keys. When the keys are pressed
this plays the allocated sample.

Why is this fun?... well instant sound effects and comedy samples in the
palm of your hand, virtual instruments, drum machine,
quotes, samples from t.v. programs or films.
Trust me... it's fun! :D

Refinements?
A choice of monophonic (one voice) and polyphonic (multiple voices),
User defined keys to trigger sounds
User sound banks... create your own directory with samples,
Volume controls for each sample
Pitch adjustment (so one sample may be allocated multiply at different pitches)
Sound effects - echo, distortion, vibrato, etc

Someone make this please... I want one! lol!

I've had a few ideas like this - unfortuantely I don't own a gp2x yet... waiting for my f200 to arrive.

Well I really hope we can get this made... :D actually you could probably code it in a night hahaha

Oh and I'm not suggesting a sequencer.. just a sample player...

Sample ideas:

The A-team
Fart machine
Drum triggers
Virtual guitar
Shouting sergeant major
Joke sounds like ("the I've just told a joke" drum-cymbal hit)
Sound effects..(phone ringing, animal noises, )
Laughter box
comedy phrases
e.g.
"stupid boy!" - Dad's army
"I'm free!" - are you being served

Well it's endless, isn't it!

D

There's quite a few flash based things that just play samples - one that does farts springs to mind. That would be a good starting point.

Be good for a simple drum machine too.

Be a good use of the F200's touch screen as well the buttons ;)

I'll try this. Neat idea.

Till now, I got a simple GUI and the main loop.

Missing:
- loading of the samples
- testing :)

now this is a nice and simple idea! I would love a drum-machine or fartinator on my gp2x. Maybe even make a savable format for it that can be loaded to put certain sound files on certain buttons. That would make it easy to create your own soundbanks and upload them including samples to the archive!

hm, sounds very useless if you ask me :)
but would be damn easy to make if someone has some time to waste.... actually the first version of my dtmf app just plays wav files, maybe thats enough for your "needs".

EDIT: Woohoo success!!

SoundBox

QUOTE
SoundBox is a programmable Sound effects "keychain"
You can map sounds to be played when you press buttons on the GP2X.
You can also have a music playing in the background.
SoundSets are added through a simple scripting system.
There is an Example set included.

There is no documentation as yet. I thought I would just get this out there for those that wanted it.
I will updated my wiki and stuff in due course, and I'm on hand if you get stuck with how to use it!
This is the first beta and the interface just tells you the name of the sound set you have selected.
Controls are as follows:
A, B, X, Y, L, R,DUP,DDOWN,CLICK - programable to sound effects
Select - Play/Stop Music track
VOL+/VOL- - Volume
Start - Quit
DLEFT/DRIGHT - Change the active soundset

Thanks alot you asshat. Everyones mad at me because I kept playing my rimshot on that ;)
lol, thanks for that program

I've to try that quickly, It might be usefull for live performance !

the source code is available ?

if the program fits to my needs, I'll make Soundpack :
Simpson pack
Rocky Horror Picture Show pack
Futurama pack

Sure, I will package the source up after work tonight (Sorry right now I'm about to become busy for the day...)
It should be reasonable to see how to add packs... at least I hope so. Any questions I'm around.
