The fall of the $

Considering the US dollar is worth less and less everyday the Pandora will probably cost $50,000.73 after converting from GBP when it comes out ;)
HOW DARE YOU!

Some parts of the Pandora may be made in the US, but Craig is in the UK, and the Pandora isn't going to be made in the UK or US.

So the first price will be UKP, and then converted to USD and the rest.
My guess is that the dollar will keep tanking on the international market, partly because of the fact that oil is only sold in dollars and oil keeps going up and will probably march on up until at least the end of the year, after that it will probably skyrocket. It just depends on if any new major oil fields are found and if the Soudi's have peaked or not. If they have, the dollar and the Pandora are the least of us American's worries (as well as the British, with the North Sea in decline). Right now, May of 05 is the peak of world oil, it might be beat, it might not. If not, few in the US will be able to afford foreign products.

Actually the high oil price is one of the few things still keeping the Dollar up, as you have to buy dollars to buy oil.
Check your 101 of economics :p

Actually the high price of oil is a reflection of a de-valued dollar (as well as speculation). It is the same with gold. The price of gold hasn't gone up as much as it looks, it just takes more de-valued dollars to buy the same amount of gold because each dollar is worth less. The dollar is worth less because there is no wealth to back it up, the country is in serious debt.

The dollar will keep tanking because the Federal Reserve is choosing to address the credit crisis and recession with lowered interest rates. In addition to the obvious inflationary problems this causes, it causes foreigners to demand US dollars less for investments (because returns are lowered). The US is essentially entering a period of stagflation, caused in part by much higher energy prices and dumbass consumers and lenders that gamble on credit that obviously won't go their way. I don't think the Fed is responding properly to this, but perhaps another year of hurt will knock some sense into them.

I agree with you on that point. Oil is what keeps the dollar afloat. But it also effects the value of a dollar when the price of oil goes up, the value seems to go down. Iran wants to put oil on the market in Euros and that probably has a lot more to do with bush wanting to start a war with iraq than anything else. Someone mentioned that part of the increase in the price of oil is the falling faith and value of the dollar, but that is only partially true. There is no spare capacity and China's imports of oil has been growing by 25%. A lot of industry insiders, geologists and petro specialists are saying that we have peaked and the cost is going to go up forever. Maybe with some short term ups and downs, but the general trend is up. Hopefully, it will bring some manufacturing jobs back to the US, when it becomes too expensive to ship stuff all over the world.

It provides short term relief, but makes the problem worse because even more money is created and creates more inflation. What we need is a money backed by something besides tomorrows prosperity. It would be great if banks were lending out real money, but the fractional reserve system lets banks create money out of thin air. They don't even print it, they just get created in a computer. Our whole economy is based on growth and is unsustainable. This is what you get when a nation puts the ability to control the nations money and monetary policy into the hands of a semi-private organization that is answerable to NOBODY, not Congress, not the president, not the states, NOBODY.

Chris

Hopefully, the cost of the Pandora won't be too high when it comes out.

Obama FTW! ^_^
I guess if you don't mind a racist president who's also a liar, then right on!

RON PAUL is the best candidate, but he is pretty much out. Nobody worth voting for this year.

I agree with christo930, ron paul would be ok, really the best choice is the mormon and I hate mormons. We shouldn't make this a political debate though.

It's highly likely a discussion of this sort would start a flame war (let's find out!). People tend to say foolish things in their knee-jerk reactions on this issue.

Depending on your definition of racism, you could claim Obama is racist. His racism begins with the ridiculous notion that anti-black thought is still widespread (it isn't in my area, at least) and ends with a desire to see more blacks in top positions. I don't find that particularly alarming; it's about what I'd expect.

The right (and probably Clinton's campaign) try to discredit him further, though, by bringing up his eccentric pastor. He has attempted to distance himself from Wright, but that won't stop the media from hammering the story.

I think they also reference his book, but I haven't seen anything quoted. It's usually used as a continuation of the attack, attempting to use any built up trust in their expertise after talking about his church.

As far as Obama lying goes, that could be a reference to the racism? I'm sure he's waffled on positions like any other politician, but I'm not sure if that's even noteworthy.

Folks, please don't let other people control your emotions. Different media groups are constantly fighting for your attention, and they have no problem with stretching the truth to win.

--Edit--
Ooh, after some reading on the subject, there was some issue with his transparency with lobbyists. He misspoke in the NH debate about what lobbyists are allowed to do for members of Congress, for example. Source

That was a pretty funny exchange (it's near the bottom).

The media lies just as much as politicians. If you wouldn't take what a skuzzy politician says at face value, don't take what the media says at face value either. ;)

Fox news...hah.

Anyway, in all likelyhood you're looking at at least $360 shipped. Don't feel bad - in Canada it'll probably be $340 + 12% tax + $15 shipping for a Pandora; about $400.

The absolute truth. You can't trust anyone these days :/

The thread creator's question was already answered so I suggest that someone make a new thread in the off-topic forum to further discuss this alternate subject. We need to segregate the Pandora talk from everything else so that I along with other forum dwellers don't get confused by entering into a discussion about thanking the ones who are making the pandora a reality only to be confronted by various pictures of man-eating bunnies.

Was that pun intentional? :D

Yeah... if we don't fix it ourselves, a moderator probably will.

Obama isn't qualified. When he comes back in 8 years, he'll have my vote.

I'm not too fond of Clinton, but I'm in support of having Bill back for a 3rd term at least. The economy is a mess from this imbecile that half of America voted in :(. One thing we can be sure of with Clinton is a better economy and a strengthening dollar :)

The Fed is doing what it can in a very dire situation. Bernanke is a smart man; I trust that he knows what he's doing.

I just bought 4 CD's and a t-shirt for $67 online (including shipping) which is around €43. To buy them retail in shops over here (Dublin) would have cost at least €80.

Usually I say fuck bush, but in this case, thanks for fucking up the dollar asshole.

Seriously, I hope the US economy picks up soon, as the worlds biggest economy it is having a big impact everywhere. I work for an Irish financial institution which has no dealings with the sub prime market, yet our share price was shafted a couple of months ago with news of US problems. I usually would not give a shite about that, but I have shares with my employer which I was hoping to cash in soon :angry2:

Anyway, back to fuck bush! I am not following the US nominees in any great detail, but in a perfect world my dog Boggi would win

Ron Paul would be a good candidate if you want to end up in WWIII because he'll refuse to ever stop problems before they start. Also, according to your definition of Obama's racism just about every black person in America is a racist... and a liar??? as politicians go hes the next Lincoln.

Clinton has proven herself to be a heartless robot bitch throughout the course of this campaign, nothing short of a magical third george bush term would allow me to vote for her. On experience-Bill Clinton was a governer for 12 years and barack obama was a senator state/national for 12 years, Clinton himself downplayed experience during his run, this 1990's video almost looks like an endorsement for barack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbHiw2jlwa4&e
