PLEASE NOTE THIS TOPIC IS MEANT FOR FEEDBACK IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONSOLE. WE'RE STILL A LONG WAY FROM A PUBLIC RELEASE

What really is this "new console?"

The PawByte nextGen Console is made via Linux(Currently testing ArchLinux version), does it's Program Store different than the others and heavily loves Open Source, ANYTHING.

A: We have been working on the console and hashing out things since early February 2012.

Q: Aren't there enough new consoles out there and sprouting up? Why not join them?

   What is this and why such a mystery?

Yes I mean 2012. Good find.

Also, it's not such a mysterry we just want to not go too far on releasing stuff before the planned kickstarter date.

Anyhow, be sure to join the event on FaceBook.

Well, the first devs added their projects in March 2011... so it seems to exist quite a long time already.

What's this? A PC with ArchLinux in a gaming-like case? :/

@ED, you are close, but not fully there.

Also, March 2011 is because of how old those projects are. Fields of Fresh has been in development for quite some time. Also Ample Legacy too.

yey Arch!, my favourite distribution..   It definetly got me interested

Would be cool if P2 were to switch to Arch or Slack

LOL, we have no affiliations with them. You can look at the About us section as to why we are named PawByte.

See you at the March 14th event.

I can see a console crash coming, too many devices chasing too few users.

Not specifically this device but just overall.

It reminds me of the video game crashes in the late 70's and early 80's when everyone jumped on the "we can make money from games" bandwagon.

I really wish someone would develop a next gen console.  And by next gen I mean a console whose main human interface is an Occulus Rift type headset that puts you in the game.  If you have read "Ready Player One" you'll know where I'm coming from.

I'm tired of the plain old tv screen games , its time for the next quantum leap. We had the old 8 bit games then there was 3d simulated games that came with better graphics, now its time for a new leap.

If someone develops it, I'll let them use my tag line for free "Get in the game"

Also, I agree with Ian J, there's to many players coming into a market that is already faltering .  Something might have to give.

I understand your concerns. Currently we can not say we are going to make something you're asking for. At least for this generation no Rifting on launching.

Also, nice tag line.

We plan to expand the industry with the cosole, but RSVP via our FB Event so you can be ready for all of the NEW news.

Hi, some hardware info would really help the hype for your project. So, what about the proc and ram for example?

In an unofficial capacity, I can say that all this susbsanceless hype is getting on my nerves. Stop telling us how wonderful it is - show us how your device is better than a HTPC running Arch (with proprietary reop/package management/DRM or whatever).

In a mod capacity I'd like to remind you that this forum is not an advertising agency - we're happy to discuss interesting tech as and when there's anything interesting to discuss.

Until then, don't overdo it ;)

I can see alot of of these new android consoles sinking. This linux pawbyte system, dunno the market may be flooded. Still will be worth a look at the live video i guess.

The ouya looks like the best bet as a new upgraded board can be simply swapped out.

This may ensure its survival in whatever niche it cuts out for itself. Also a lady who founded 'that game company' has joined the ouya team.

Too many systems for my tastes now.

I will buy an ouya cos we are developing a game for it and im interested in this system.

Xbox 720 is the only console im purchasing in the near future.

I have been saying this since ... whatever it was that came after ouya . I am however , very happy to see a Linux console that hopefully won't be as locked down as steambox .

Guys,

Thank you for all of the respectful feedback, the purpose of keeping specific dates were to show we had no intentions of copying anyone.

We are taking things slowly and steady and I do not intend on causing or encouraging a new gaming crash.

Why does this thread exist?

  1. To get feedback from an established Linux console/dev community.
  2. To have an interesting discussion about a future product.
  3. To gain brand recognition for new company.
(1) and (2) are impossible since there is nothing to discuss, and no specs or information have been given.

That leaves us with (3). thwierdn8 seems to have strong affiliations with the company producing the pawbyte.

That makes this thread an advertisement.

Advertisements are not welcome here - we need real information.
