Howdy,

Excellent emulator, I have really enjoyed getting back to the oldie days.

However, my question is that: Does anyone know how to change from PAL to NTSC on this emulator? There is no read-me that I could see so that is out of the question. I've looked in the emulator menu and can't seem to locate the setting. I've looked in some of the config files, but I must not be seeing it.

Other C64 emulators on the computer can switch between the two. Can this one do that or am I not seeing it.

Thanks for the resposes.

Not sure. I will certianly check tomorrow when I get home. I know for sure that the PC VICE has the option, and from what it seems to me, Vice2x is default running in NTSC. I know this because I always test C64 emulators with my own old demos first, and I know the difference between how they run in PAL vs NTSC.

You might want to look at the default settings again. Becuase, I've reloaded the emualtor 4 times, and the default is PAL. I know the NTSC games work in PAL mode though(as the C64 wasn't region specific). The max on the VICE2X is 50FPS which is PAL. No option to put it up to 60 for NTSC that I can see.

The only reason why I notice is that some of the games "Songs" are slower. For comparision I fire up my real NTSC C64 system, the songs are faster in tempo. I also fire up the PC emulator equivilant and switch from pal to ntsc and the songs tempo go faster(NTSC) and slower(PAL).

Anyway, any help you could provide would be appreciated. I just can't seem to find the option or if there is one.

Yes, I definitely know what my demos run at (sound/speed) when run at 50fps PAL. They are definitely NOT running at this speed with the default Vice2x config. I will look into it nonetheless however.

Curious...well I defenently appreciate any help you might provide. I can't tell you how bloody cool it is to play C64 on a handheld!!!!

I will look forward to reading your findings!!!

Thanks again!!

Hopefully one day one of these emus will be optimized. Overclocking to emulate a computer with 64K and a 1 MHz CPU seems a bit excessive. I mean we have full speed NeoGeo so C64 should run fine at 200 MHz. I think as it stands Frodo runs a bit smoother.

Frodo definitely runs smoother. There are some problems tho, such as the screen brightness (it's WAY off on my Mk2...you can barely see the text) and the TV out does not work with Frodo.....it does with Vice2x. If Frodo were to repair those two problems, I would use it exclusively.

and... why is this in the fenix forum????

Not exactly sure :)

Anyway, I looked into Vice2x, as well as Frodo. Nope, there does not seem to be any way possible to adjust from PAL to NTSC or reverse. They are both looking to me running at NTSC however. Maybe something to contact the author about for an upcoming version. Vice2X was obviously scaled down feature wise in the port, and this option was apparently removed.

Well thank you anyways. I couldn't find the option either. One of the reason's I thought that it is running in PAL is because the max frame rate that can be achieved is 50fps (according to when you hit the left or right trigger). Of course I could be reading/understanding that wrong. But as you said and daveC, maybe in upcoming versions more options will be avalible nonetheless.

Thank you for time and response.

Something I have noticed with Vice is that there are certain roms which would not run for me when using the PC version also do not run on Vice for GP2X - A good example of this is the disk version of Defender of the Crown. Anyone else have this and is it just a case of trying a different rom set (I do own the original!) or are there certain games which do not run??

Perhaps there is a compatability list somewhere like MAME (I know this may be quite a task with over 10,000 games available!!)

Default mode in Vice and Frodo is PAL, to my knowledge. There is a difference between NTSC and PAL, CPU speed differs (NTSC being slightly faster) raster interrupts differ. Some games and demos sense this and function properly on both machines but quite a few older games that have raster interrupt functions (for example to display more than 8 sprites on the screen, or have dual mode screen text and pixel graphics, smooth scrolling) don't work well on NTSC. All interrupts differ. Music is being played faster, games run faster. Yes it is noticable.

With PAL emulation you're better of since most releases were PAL anyways.
