Ahem, then tell your kids to GTFO this is our internetz. And don't sensor masturbation, for godsake it's not a damn word that deserves it. Some words that deserve it are as follows. Fuck Cunt Bitch Pussy Ass

By the way, don't try to be the internet police for your kids starting with this topic. There have been hundreds and hundreds of threads which have done much worse in terms of "exposing" your kids to this kind of content. I suggest you set up some sort of Intranet if they are to live their lives without being exposed to things such as this.

Just remember to turn off pay-per-view on the living room TV after you're done watching Leather Honey's in Heat.

Back on topic... I would want a pair of Video glasses that you could actually view while walking somewhere, the single display unit seems most ideal for that kind of viewing. However if you are going to sit at home and stare at the wall or go on a long flight, the Crystal glasses sound the best.

AFAIK stereoscopy works by sending alternate frames to alternate eyes. The Pandora could do this, it's just a case of the software supporting it.
There are about a gazillion different ways of representing stereoscopy. There are several competing formats that involve alternating frame, most of them almost, but not quite, compatible.

Some of them require a blue line after every frame, some of them require some data at the beginning of each frame, some of them want an interlaced signal with the diferent eyes alternating lines, Some VGA goggles want a special sync signal over the I2C channel, etc.

I'm not saying that it's not possible, just that it can be a real pain to get working. You need to know what kind of hardware you want to work with. There is no general solution that works with all stereoscopy equipment. :(

Kids : benT wants to bring to your attention that Poisoned V said a naughty word!! So go back and see what PoisonedV said!!!! Be sure not to ask your parents what it means, because benT says that it's a dirty word and you don't want to make your parents mad. You're just going to have to ask someone on the schoolyard or the internet. That's how you get the straight dope on dirty words!!
(And yes, of course, PoisonedV is being an ass. He does that.)

There are about a gazillion different ways of representing stereoscopy. There are several competing formats that involve alternating frame, most of them almost, but not quite, compatible. While the Vuzix has a system for automagically engaging stereoscopic mode it also allows you to select L/R or R/L modes manually via the on screen display. Unless I'm missing something this really should make it relatively easy to support via software without having to worry about sending special signals over the s-video.

Probably true. As I understand it, the compatibility issues that Chip mentioned mostly exist because typically, the shutter glasses are separate to the screen, and CRT screens behave in particular ways.

If we're dealing with glasses with the screens built in, we shouldn't have to worry about that. We would have to worry about software lagging for a frame or two, presumably, and thus breaking the effect, though. Maybe.

They hype the 'virtual' 60 inch screen but the resolution is so small that it would look like garbage

Doom or any kind of shooter with those will definitively kick some major ass.
Its like this childhood dream of mine of virtualy being into the game slowly coming to reality.
With the Wii concept + Vision goggles concept + Quality games with crazy graphics ( Crysis someone? ).
* Prays for Next Gen to be THAT kick ass. *

I feel that the adaptation will be pretty harsh though.

EXACTLY what I had into my mind for a long time!
Heck, the only thing that would prevent me from making sth like that right now is the lack of effordable Hi-Res Video Googles.

For God's sake....

I'm not censoring my kids from knowing those words (most of which they have heard before), especially not "masturbation". What I am asking is that people consider that when the topic is about video glasses we don't delve into PoisenedV's incestuous fondling fantasies. Just because the guy is a jerk all the time doesn't mean we have to accept it.

Yeah, and CandidStan? I don't care what you watch on television, but you better not let mummy catch you watching shows like that...

There are a couple of 800x600 glasses for between $1,000 and $2,000, if that's your idea of "Hi-Res" or "affordable".

For what it's worth, 800x600 looks better than you might expect when it's in stereo. Somehow your brain is more willing to fill in the details if it's getting different perspectives from each eye. At least my brain is, your mileage may vary.

Hi-Res: yes
Affordable: In my case absolutly NOT :p

But on the other hand, if I would buy Video Glasses, I would want to use it with my Pandora, and because you can only get a S-Video Signal out of it any Resolution above VGA would be just unnecessary...

WTF??? i'm 14, and see no problem with this language. its actually innoffensive when not directed at someone.
eg. "this is fucking amazing!my pandora does everything!"-not offensive to anyone.
eg."fuck you!"-offensive to whoever it is directed to.

the internet is a place where you can find anything.just because your children see the word masturbation over the internet , it doesn't mean that they're gonna go looking at pornography.

the quote about porn anywhere actually serves more as an idea-starter than innappropriateness. although it is innappropriate, it made me think that people could use this for important text documents not for public eyes, ect.

in conclusion , free speech ownz.also , if you go on a forum, expect to find innapropriateness.

indeed, it looks as if you were at the last row in a movie room for liliputians : i didn't feel like watching a 60" screen :(. I also test stereoscopic but I was disappointed because i can see a annoying black screen flipping between both glass screens.

Mr devil45: It has nothing to do with the word, but the action being described. I understand there is going to be language used on forums one would not use in front of one's mother (I'm frequently guilty of that). It is another thing entirely to describe fondling one's self in a car with your family when the subject is about wearable video displays.

Oh, and I doubt your parents are visiting the same forums as you.

I hope that, by now, BenT has realized the error of moralizing in a public forum instead of bringing his concerns to a moderator in private, or ignoring the offending remark completely.

Somehow, I don't think he has. I suspect that he blames the rest of this thread's participants.
