I'm noticing two weird sounds coming from it:

1. A sound like the grinding of a hard drive.
2. A popping sound when the CPU is being used (specifically when playing Flash content via Firefox).

Is there any way to fix them?

I understand that the first one is just a normal variation, and occurs on some units. My first three did not have it, my current one does (although in fairness I can only really hear it in a silent room). I don't think there's anything that you can do about it.

I don't know about the CPU popping that you described, though.

I've always had ... low volume but surely audible noise when using wifi; you can hear the wifi being busy.. the sound changes as the busyness of wifi changes, etc. I've confirmed it with others too :) (multiple devices I mean, not my hearing noise from another dimension :)

It's not that on mine, as an aside. I have that off already.

I hear the 'ping' every now and again, it's almost always when I'm using Geany but not necessarily when I'm compiling which is when I'd expect the processor would be utilised most. Doesn't seem to affect anything though.

Mine makes a dong noise every now and then, sort of like a bell being touched by your finger when you strike it(quick dull dong).
