Windows coming to ARM??

"According to Bloomberg's unnamed sources, the new OS is designed for battery-powered devices, including tablets and other handhelds, and it will also run on Intel and AMD chips."
Sounds like M$ is rewriting a version of windows from scratch, with cross platform portability. Which means it could also be targeted at x86 net books.

And the added value of having windows would be...? I wouldn't be able to say actually.

It's not like any x86 software will run. Does Windows CE have any worthwhile applications? From what I've seen of it, it's not all that great.

great or not, it's still more software, apps, games, whatever written only for windows ce that would otherwise never see it's face on the pandora.

linux is not the end-all solution that everyone makes it out to be. There are other options out there, and to get certain software titles you need to go with those other options, some times those options are as closed as the software you want to run.

Do you have any examples of particular windows ce software you would like to see work on the Pandora?

Microsoft is trashing all their old OSes and starting anew with something modern? FINALLY! When apple did this it was the best thing. I hope that this is what it turns out to be, a complete replacement of everything they have now, an OS that will run on anything and is not tied to a certain platform, just a simple re-compile for each architecture.

Or it is just another toy OS like CE. Wee.

. . .and more importantly dominate the tablet market.
It has been an all out riot just listening to them say this I can't wait to see them actually try.

There was this turn based strategy game that I bought quite some time ago that was really fun, kinda a mix between reversi and stratigo. And there were other good games I can't quite remember right now for some reason. I haven't messed with it for several years, so it's kinda rusty, but it had some decent games at the time from what I remember. If I think of a particular game or app I'll let you know.

I'm not a windows ce or winmo advocate, but it had it's uses for those that liked that sort of thing. Now if you were to ask me about what software on other different mobile OS's I'd have a laundry list of titles I'd like to see on the pandora.

I'm not claiming it is. It's just that with my (admittedly limited) experience with Windows CE, I had the impression that its software offering was a bit mediocre compared to that of other mobile operating systems (based on reports of friends and colleagues and my own short impressions as I'm not really into mobile phones myself).

The intention of the post was not to bash Microsoft or praise Linux, though I might have phrased it a bit better.

I was just kinda curious if there were some cool applications I didn't know about. Choice is always good.

Besides, any missing "killer-app" is a good indication of what software we need to develop.

i agree with caine here, the last thing i want on a handheld is windows, its no better then a x86 handheld, just doesnt feel right to me
