Gp32 Modded To Hell And Back (in One Piece)

I've now written 3 guides/tutorials.

One for dissassembling a FLU/BLU ready for painting (I know there is a guide already, but I felt one for painting was needed, as everythinh has to come apart).

Second covering the actual painting, more like spraying tips really (its hard to write a *guide* on spraying, as there's not much to it).

Third on putting LED's into the Start and Select buttons.

Pics are ready, I just need to turn them all into a HTML doc and they'll be done. Should get this done later tonight.

Nice work dude :). I've been thinking of doing almost the exact same thing for a while but never got round to it :(. Maybe change the status LED as well, that would be awesome.

Nicely done though, I doubt I would get a finish as good as that.

Can you please link to the UK page you got the cans off?
The farnell search results for "plastikote" give a wide selection of products, some arn't suitable for painting plastic, such as the "RustNot" and "Hot Paint" products, but there is a selection that can be used, in various colours:

http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/sea...1&Ntk=gensearch

I used the super enamel:

Matt Black - http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/par...U=3241828&N=401

Silver - http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch/par...U=3241981&N=401

There are other colours, like red, royal blue, etc

At £4.10 per can, it's reasonably cheap. The only problem is farnell have a minimum order value of £20 now, iirc.

Thanks! Im doing a saturn case mod and these paints look high quality.

What is your opinion on them? Have they lasted ok so far?

EDIT: SHIT! No purple :(

nice work  :D

(I don't feel like going overboard like everyone else - too tired for that ;))

I'd consider doing it myself, I'd be the only owner of a flashy PINK hippie gp32 :)

I'd like a nice dark red with blue buttons....

If anyone is gonna start doing this comemrcially, let me know! I'm gonna buy a BLU when I sell my FLU. The white does look tacky, but til then I'll dream of having a sexy beast like that ;) Nice work ;)

Mine will be Black and silever with a blue LED for the status light. :D

looks nice, but them buttons would piss me off in time so If I did it I would fit a switch :D

Also I know a place where you can get Plastikote for £2.19 a Can :p... Get Down to your local WILKINSONS Store :D £2.19 Per a Can and I think £3 for the bigger can (about 2 - 3 times bigger)

:D

lek,

What did you use for a 'key' in the plastic?

Just rubbed it a lot with a tack rag?

Hmmm, half tempted to try this. Plastikote is also hard wearing, I did a mouse and a few other bits and bobs with it years ago and they still look ok.

Lek: Where did you get the LED's, and what voltage are they?

EDIT: Also what colour is the left one? (sorry, colour blind)

Steve-O: That's a great price, is is the same/similar stuff to what I used, i.e. can it bond to plastic? I might have to nip into Wilko' and have a look round. I *think* Halfords may also sell the stuff.

DJWillis: I've not heard the term key before, but I presume you mean did I rough up the surface before applying the spray? Well, all I did was give it a good clean, I didn't make the surface any different than what it normally is (smooth basically).

I don't think there is any need to do so given that the Plastikote I used is designed to bond with another plastic surface, at least I think thats what I read off the official website. After a few coats it sorta bonds to itself anyway.

finity101: The left button (Start button) has a blue LED in it, the right button (Select button) has a green LED in it. If you can hold out till tomorrow you can rad my guide that covers the type of LED and where I got mine from ;)

Also: When I was at work today, I noticed that the LED's both started flickering very quickly, gradually they slowed down, until they were blinking on and off (very wierd I know). What was cool, is that this was the battery running down. My mp3 was still playing fine, and the screen was displaying correctly, but it seemed that the LED's got affected first!

I must say this was rather kick-ass, I had ~1 minute from when the flashing started before the screen eventually started to flicker and the audio became crackly, then my GP32 turned off. I know some people used to get a similar thing with the FLU, whereby the light would flicker so you knew your batteries were failing, thus you could quickly save a game, etc. With my BLU however, I havn't noticed such a thing from the backlight, so having the LED's pulse on and off (and I mean pulse, was quite funny having it do it in the office!) for 1 minute before the battery died (at 66mhz) is pretty darn cool methinks.

Oh, and the LED's are not as dazzling as the pictures suggest btw. It seems my camera picks up a haze effect from the LED's in the evening. Here's a bit of a pic of one of the LED's during the day:
