Psx Emu

People should research the coder, the site linked and the project itself before stating that it is bullshit.

Also, seeing as though there are at least two other threads on these boards about the emu, which also have debates on its existence, there really is no excuse for saying it stinks like bullshit without giving any reasoning.

i've never played Ridge racer before, but looks to be polygonal 3d?  How is the GP32 producing the 3d without any 3d hardware?

Also, .5fps, how slow is that,  does that mean it would take like 5 mins to go forward a little bit on the game?

Also, and i'm sure to get crap for this but i'm going to say it, I don't know LDChen personally, but he still has never posted anything in any GP32 forum, why? This seems to be more GP32 related than PDA.  And its not hard to photoshop some screens to make it look like something.

This is real and I hope it works, but i'm doubtful, i just can't see how a machine with, at its time, had good 3d hardware, can be emulated on a system that has no 3d hardware.

You can emulate it with software, code that runs like the hardware does. This is how you can run Genesis games that had hardware sprites even though the GP32 does not.

This does however slow things down alot. It will take two seconds to render 1 frame. This is like 60X slower than a real PSX. This is why this emu will never be playable, or have sound. It is basically just a "curiosity"

And thats at 40mhz so at 133 it'll probably run around 2 frames!!!! wow..um quake is a better achievement.

hah, I wasnt going to post but octavious was egging me on. I like the idea of making one. I have enough to play around with even if dev stopped. Either way, coders can do as they please. Even if you dont believe that hes not even a normal gp32 coder so its not like we are losing one of our powercoders that you are so used to (did anyone say rlyeh?). I say good luck on this and who cares what it plays like now or ever..if it somehow becomes playable then even better. I support it fully.

Edit: look at the join dates of Kotd and I, they are so close but the member number is oddly well spaced. I guess that was a SUPER popular time for signups.

hmm maybe flame in other threads, but not here :)

as already said, LDChen had been a very good respected coder for many years and I'm pretty sure he wouldnt try to fool the gp32 scene after all the stuff he already did for the PDA scene - why would he?

If you don't like the project, just dont think about it and go back playing other stuff - i personally think it may be a nice "tech demo" to look at. (but not actually to play it)

and @octavious why not leave the coder some time until he gets to release a fxe? ;)

no wonder he left the scene so quickly of all the community's i have joined the gp32 one has to be the most bloody scepititcal and dare i say? Totally fukin idiotic how the hell can you own a gp32 and not understand the mindset of the devs that make it what it is?

IF YOU HAVE NOTHING GOOD TO SAY KINDLY SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!

IF you can do better IF all of a sudden you a a Guru coder then by all means slag it off and give us a working N64 emu.

PRICKS

EDIT: i just got a lil angry not aimed at the majority just CERTAIN users

 What the hell happened to this thread? Jeez, you thought people would be happy to have a PSX emu in the works. Oh well, no accounting for twats.

Hey that's pretty cool, these screenies of Ridge Racer in the emu.

The best way to shut all these disbelieving dickheads up would be to release an fxe, but if LDChen doesn't want to then that's his choice and must be respected.

Just really cool to even know that someone has tried.

Is the intro to Ridge Racer actually 3d or is it just a psx movie file? Anyway i would love to see more games tried on this emu as it makes a great tech demo.

AFAIK its real-time 3D...the PSX can actually handle quite a few polys when there's not much else going on.

Mkay. 0.05 FPS. That is 1 Picture per 20 Seconds? Cool. How fast is a normal PSX? 60FPS?
Come on. You could do the same with the xbox-emulator that only runs Halo. It would be even slower, but it would render something as well.

We'll see how this develops. I'll be back in 2 years... possibly to see that it has died. But anyways. I wish best luck to the coder.

Maybe it would be better aiming to Code the EMulator for Specific Games for example Ridge Racer... Like What they Did with that SILENT HILL Release for the PC. The Coders just Fiddled with a PSX Emulator and changed bits to get it to work perfectly for Silent Hill on the PC... But, They released the Silent Hill Image with there work, so I cant give you a link to it as it will be classed as "Warez")

Where has the 0.05 FPS figure come from? I hope it wasn't my post, because that was just a guesstimate. Plus I seriously doubt it would be possible to emulate an Xbox full stop on the GP32. Not even at 0.0000000005 FPS!

And a normal PSX is 30 FPS, less for some games, more for others.

Ahhh. Good to see the a discussion of a tech demo has drawn such wonderful accusations of people being 'faggots' and speaking 'BS'.

There's no reason to doubt this emu. I've got a perfectly decent PS1 emulator on my PPC. OK - so my Axim's processor is around four times faster than my GP32, but it proved that PS1 emus can be ported to small ARM devices.

I sincerely doubt this emulator will ever peg along at a playable speed, but it's an interesting coding exercise all the same.

I don't know what's going on round here. I remember when it was fields etc, etc...

i'm glad i checked the site today anyway.

my 2 cents:

ripped ridge racer is extremly small, 1.5mb
i played it you've played it, we all know its not the most graphics intensive game ever made.
its never going to be full speed, it might be playable with heavy optimisation no sound lots of frameskip.

i don't why people are being assholes about this if its a hoax so what it was fun while it lasted but its not gonna happen over night.
