I hate to advertise on forums but I thought a few of you might be interested to know that we're running a competition to win a copy of the 6-disc Fist of the North Star boxset here: http://www.animeboredom.co.uk/competition/3

All you have to do is answer 10 multiple-choice questions.

We also run a monthly compo to win a manga which this month is Mega Tokyo volume 1: http://www.animeboredom.co.uk/competition/5

Anyway, hope the mods don't mind the quick plug and good luck to anyone entering

Yeah, you'd think people would be more interested in winning free stuff! I guess a lot of people just assume they'll never win, but when you're up against eight or nine other entrants you really do stand a good chance.

Well, many thanks to the 2 guys who entered so far! Be sure to check back each month because we've always got competitions on with an equally low number of entrants (usually graphic novels but occasionally DVDs).

Cheers, funny that it makes me happy to see those emails in my inbox :)

And yeah, people who use Google normally win. They're difficult questions but all the answers can be found with a little Googling!

Hey Huxley what did you make that site in by the by?
It's hella good ;)

Cheers dude, I wrote it all in notepad (but I use dreamweaver at work). It was the first site I coded in PHP so it was a bit of learning proccess, and although the code is a bit messy I was pretty happy with the results considering. If you ever want to run a sizeable website I highly recommend learning PHP...it might seem like a lot of effort but it'll save you time in the end!

I have bookmarked it again (had it bookmarked before formating), so expect enteries from now on biggrin.gif .

B) Excellent, best of luck winning something! I should really get a mailing list together for people who'd like to know when compos are up. Might sort that one over Xmas.

skillfully done there ;)
I'm going to learn PHP in the Christmas holidays, it just looks so fun!
I'm still using notepad, getting a little bored now though, I think I need a better program.
That really is a lovely looking site. So is that your proffesion then?
Was it easy also?
etc...

No, it was a bloody headache for someone who failed (twice) their (mandatory) programming module at university! But PHP is nothing like as complex as C++ so my thick head slowly began to comprehend the ins and outs after hours of reading books...if you're even slightly good at programming you'll find it a breeze, though. I was pretty lucky in landing a job, I'm still really learning the basics.

Oh, I forgot to say I stopped using Notepad! I now use a great little text-based editor called Scite that's specifically geared towards web programmers. Its basically Notepad with syntax highlighting and a few other useful features. Its not as advanced as Dreamweaver (which can also be used as a text editor) but its much more streamlined and less buggy.

I feel ill

I just saw a thing on the TV planner on Sci FI called "fist of the north star"

so i thought, hey cool it the anime on TV

alas, it was a live action film

and, as with other Game/Anime real time movies such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, IT WAS SHITE

but not a funny short of shite, it was a scary sorta, how did this get funded sorta thing

Oh man...that film sucks large amounts of ass.

But like the Street Fighter movie you can't help but stare at the screen in morbid disbelief. What on God's green Earth gave the producers responsible the impression that Fist of the North Star would translate to live action film and NOT look ridiculous? I mean, how did this pile of steaming shite ever get funded in the first place?

It makes me sad every time I think about it. And with travesties like the Real Bout High School movie on the way it doesn't look like we'll see a decent live action anime movie for some time yet. James Cameron's Battle Angel Alita does sound interesting but it's a ways off yet.

Well, at least we have some good videogame/anime adaptations to fall back on. :p

Oh, and stay away from The Guyver too. It's not as bad as FotNS but it's there or there abouts.
