If your partner ask you to choose between them or video games, which would you choose?

thats a great way of looking at it
If the friend was so up tight about gaming that I had to chose , then we proly wouldnt stay friends for long

My girlfreind is the most important 'thing' in my life, but like you say if anyone was ever so uptight to make me give up games I wouldn't be that interested.

I'm lucky that my girlfreind likes games, and doesn't mind me playing/talking/writing about them all the time.

My misses also loves video games so I'm lucky. She's very tolerant with my addiction (although she got a big narky when I used to play Diablo 2 on the PC for 7 hours a night during the week and even longer at weekends). I'm a bit more considerate now (well ... marginally ;)). If she made me choose I'd choose her but ban her from watching soaps on TV till she cracked and let me have my video games back. :p

I used to think my ex didn't mind me playing games, but after she broke up with me, I found out that she thought I played entirely too much. She just never said anything. It was true, too. There were numerous occasions where we should have gone out or I should have paid attention to her where I just sat on the computer or on my Xbox. I don't play so much these days. Oh well. She did cheat on me, though, so I don't feel SO bad. Fucking hussy, lol.

If a friend asked you that question and you said gaming they would kick ur ass on the spot.

Partner.

Depends on your needs and goals..

I'm married (recently so not some old foggy ;) and life had to change (by choice) a little.. one cannot live the same as a bachelor when you're with someone, be it seriously dating or married... if you're serious with someone, you need to give them their share of yourself.. if you game all the time, then you're being "selfish". Theres nothing wrong with that, but each person has to know where their thresholds are..

If someone asks you to give it up, thats unreasonable so you need to establish thresholds with them and evaluate if its workable or not; if they're just asking whats up, then maybe they want too much of your time, or maybe its a cry for help out of lonliness.. so you need to find out if its you, or them, and if you care :)

There's most certainly time for both. If you are so wrapped up in video games that you neglect your girl friend.. then that's a pretty bad thing.

However, if she's just some kind of crazy that wants you to think about nothing but her... then not such a great relationship.

Probably the thing to do is just limit game time so you have time for her. ;)

Another brilliant post. Yay.

As for me, I'm married for 12 years now, and both my Wife and I share the same passion for gaming, so I have no need to 'choose'. :D

How can you choose between something that makes your whole life complete and a girlfriend, huh? *chuckles*

I would say the following. "A relationship between two people is based on trust, and caring. You knew what I was like when you starting dating me, and telling me to choose between you and gaming shows little trust in me and that you're insecure. If you were the one who was more into games, I would not demand the same of you because I care about everything about you."

Guilt anyone?

Here's my thought. You've been gaming all your life, and you suddenly have a girl. You've been dating for a week and shes sick of you playing games. WTF? What would you do? Change something that you've been doing for your whole life, or something that you've been dating for a week. It would have to be a VERY, VERY HOTT GIRL TO GIVE UP GAMING! HOTTER THAN CARMEN ELECTRA! :D

EDIT: I do have a girl, she is good enough to me that I wouldn't have to choose.

I had a friend in a similar situation...

when I first heard he was being asked to give up gaming by his wife I couldn't believe it... then I found out that his gaming fix was hurting other aspects of his life... this guy was spending money that should have been going toward household items on games and computer supplies... he'd go into town for a new couch and chairs and instead come back with a load of new games and a new video card...

I bought a load of his games off him... lol

The way I see it... unless gaming is a part of your life that you yourself feel is something that is out of control and you remember feeling that way about it before she came into your life... continue gaming. If you are comfortable with your own lifestyle, well you were a gamer when she met you, tell her that if she doesn't have time for a gamer in her life then she is just taking time away from your gaming and she should find someone who's lifestyle is more like her own... same advise to you though... there are a lot of gamer girls out there and a lot of girls who while they may not game themselves they will not look down on you for your hobby or ask you to stop unless of course you have just played 14 hours a day for the last week and also worked a full time job....
