Don't laugh ... My wife is worried that I'll get mugged and killed for my PSP if I take it out in public. It has White headphones, like an Ipod.

Yeah thats right "Your Ipod or your life"

"Er its not an ipod"

"You being smart boy" (points gun to head)

is this some kind of trend now, people robbing Ipod's? That's friggin retarded... sorry but the whole Ipod craze has totally gone over my head.

Just went out and picked up Untold Legends... man this is another great launch game... if anyone has played Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance, or Champions of Norrath, you have a very good idea what to expect. Hell if you've played GAUNTLET you have a good idea what to expect LOL but really this game so far is very good, GREAT graphics, good music/sound, easy to pick up and pretty addictive... a dungeons and dragons style dungeon crawler, run around kill stuff loot treasure chests and random items off dead monsters while running errands... err... 'quests' for the local townsfolk. I now own just about half of the launch games and luckily so far of the ones I've bought most of them are pretty good, no real 'stinkers' (though I've avoided any 989 sports games!).

Got a LOT of stuff to keep me busy at work now... soooo nice finally having english games and some really good ones to boot....

Nope not in Australia hehe. Glad you liked Untold Legends, Gamespot and IGN kinda hammered into that game.

LOL I must be getting soft... I used to be VERY picky and only like the best of the best but suddenly I'm liking all these games that other people are saying suck... *shrug*.

Well I wouldn't say that Untold Legends was the BEST GAME EVER or anything like that... and of course, since I haven't played any of these games for more than (at most) an hour I am not really qualified to give a good 'review' just initial impressions... after 30 mins of untold legends I was still having fun, but just for reference, again if you liked or loved Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance or Champions of Norrath this game is EXACTLY like that. I LOVED Dark Alliance and that game got fantastic reviews way back when. Man as far as I'm concerned it is a good thing then that I'm just buying up as many games as I can afford w/o reading any reviews or I'd be missing a lot of good stuff.

iPod theft is more an american problem there are people who have been targeted because of their white head phones, there was a news report on it just a couple of weeks ago. and they dont "ask" for it they just run up on you and jack it.

It's funny when I was playing my friends jPSP a week ago I didnt have any fear of getting it stollen but now that they're actually for sale in the US I feel kinda nervous now.

hehe now that everyone will know what they are? Yeah I say use that wrist strap and keep a close eye on the thing.

oh hell no! if someone tries to jack mine i'll go after em and make em pay big time!

anyway guys, for the last couple hours i've been going over it. everything's great, and i LOVE wipeout. the system is beautiful, although it seems it's very hard to keep it that way  i'm not going to worry too much, though, as i don't wanna spend more time cleaning than playing, heh.
my only concern now(no dead pixels or visible dust[didn't go into detail, though]) is the issue with

GHOSTING!!

seriously, the video quality on the umd and samplers were sooo insane, however there was considerable ghosting in some vids, but for some reason not in others. i wonder what the response time of the psp's lcd is? and is this just me? to all that have the spider man umd, do you guys see any ghosting?
and too bad i don't have a usb cable or high capacity mem stick to check out some vids that i made my computer chomp out lately in anticipation.

btw, i see only ghosting in videos and not while playing games(or wipeout as it's the only game i currently have).

junker - I used to gripe about this quite a lot when I first got my PSP. Yeah it is one thing I noticed right away and yet some other people never do seem to notice it. The PSP screen ghosts BAD on very dark images... you notice it a LOT in Rengoku and Metal Gear Acid which are both dark games with a lot of pure black on screen sometimes. When you rotate around and the image suddenly goes from light to dark or vice versa the ghosting can be very bad... most people I initially talked to, guys who imported it who almost everyone bought Ridge Racers, they all thought this effect was intentional 'blurring' and that I was a nut :p

I'm glad someone else finally notices this though :)

yeah, i don't know if i can look past this comfortably when watching videos, though. i mean, like check out that music video by that omrioan(sp?) guy. it's low motion and yet the dude's face is ghosting like mad! it's a dark video, of course, but man, it's crazy.

i converted some ghost in the shell SAC2ndgig fansubs and since they're dark, they should ghost a lot, eh? aaaw man!
btw, my friend picked up on it as well.
i don't know, i'm gonna try and let my lcd screen run nonstop for a while for some breaking in and see if ghosting subsides..who knows.

edit
ghosting is acknowledged here in this article...
http://gear.ign.com/articles/598/598326p1.html

btw, i really hope that later revisions of the psp get an lcd with a faster response time.

Yeah I noticed it but what can you do, its a problem with LCDS. Anyway I bought my PSP for gaming only, if i do watch videos it will be maybe 5% of the time.

I just read the Gamespot review for Untold Legends... well now that I've read it, I can see what they dont like about the game and do agree. The story and plot are a bit generic and not as creative, involving or engrossing as Baldurs Gate... but gameplay and action wise it is the same game, which for me is good all the same. I never really played Dark Alliance because "oh wow it has SUCH a COOL STORY!!!" the story is just there to move the action along... Gauntlet didn't have much of a story but damn people played the hell outta that... well Legends definately has more story than guantlet :p Well.. so now Gamespot ruined it for me because now I will just laugh at all the flat dialogue and not think the game is as good :D but it's still a heck of a lot of fun

Last night as people were coming out of Gamestop with their PSP's a bunch of us took them out of the box and fired them up... I'd say at least 10 of us had them on checking them out, and not one of us had a dead pixel. I have taken a VERY close look at mine as well and have found ZERO dust under the screen, though this was a big problem with my Japanese ones. Again good luck to anyone who get's one with dead pixels who thinks their gonna try to exhange it right then and there.

You guys are lucky. I got mine from best buy. I knew of the problems so I tested the unit right then and there after I bought it. And there they were, at least 5 dead pixels. So I told them right then and there that it was bad and got another unit. This one had one dead pixel and some dust in the screen. I asked for another one to try and that one had gouges on the screen cover, 2 dead pixels and a piece of fuzz on the inside. By then I was cut off, there would be no more trying any more out. It was either take one of those or get a refund. I ended up with the second one with the dust and one dead pixel. You can't really see the dust unless you look at it under the light. With the game running and in a semi dark room it kind of dissapears. I also could have sworn that the dead pixel healed itself for awhile and then came back, or I may be nuts.

Anyway you guys are lucky, maybe I got one from an old bad batch or something.

That's probably the burn mark on your eyes from over-pspdosing..

Just ordered my JAP PSP and three games from the USA, THUG2, Tiger Woods and Ridge Racers.

Thinking of picking up untold legends, Wipeout and FIFA next. luckily with FIFA not released for a good while i won't go crazy spending just yet.

any UK PSPers who imported from japan: what is the best way to power up the PSP? get a plug adaptor or is it like a laptop to charger where there is a power lead into the box that goes to the PSP?
