Squidge Is Going To Work On Pce For The Gp32 Again

because of one simple reason: it EMULATES it better. Sure, the screen is not made for emulation, but it just EMULATES better. The ones for GP32 aren't bad, but are either not at 100% perfect (masterlator, some slowdowns), or suffer from serious bugs (fSMS32, save bug), which makes DrSMS better.

Note: i wrote "EMULATE" in capital letters to make clear, it's an essential part of "EMULATion"

Ok so the SMS emulators are just better coded on the GBA.

If DrSMS was ported to the GP32 then it would be just as good, maybe even better as the screen is backlit and has enough resolution to display ALL of the pixels. But since GP32 doesn't have DrSMS we will have to hope that fSMS is updated someday I guess.

I remember Reesy way back when saying that he was in the process of porting DrSMS to GP32 and was going to finish and release it soon after the 2.0 public version of DrMD.

What happened to that?
(not that I'm complaining or anything)

I guess Reesy is getting a Zodiac and going to develope for that now. So I wouldn't count on anything else from him on the GP32. If you want DrSMS you will have to get a Zodiac and suffer with that crappy analog :(

Damn Dave you sure are negative... I told you already lighten up a bit will ya? You were being all negative about Squidge here saying not to count on another PCE emu for the GP, and he has very clearly stated he will definately be bringing out another one for the GP even before he gets around to coding the Zod one.

Now Reesy has clearly said he has no intention of just 'abandoning' the GP scene, and that whatever he would work on for the Zodiac he'd bring that over to the GP, as far as updates for DrMD go, and he also already said that porting DrSMS over to the GP would be very easy relative to what he did with DrMD and would be a quick project for him to do.... so dude... really... STOP giving up hope so easily.

Did you ever consider that having such a negative attitude could actually contribute to people moving away from 'the scene'? I mean... damn... you're all but TELLING them to move along already!

Squidge - I know it's early on and probably pountless for me to ask this, but do you have any kind of time frame, even a wild ballpark guess, ANYTHING, as to how long it might be before we actually see this new PCE emu on the GP?

The Zodiac is much different to dev for. It is not as easy as hitting a button and compiling for either one. Once someone gets used to the Zodiac they rarely ever do anything on the GP32 again, it is too much work to do both. Yoyo also said the exact same thing, that he was going to do both. Well guess what , he didn't, he abandoned the GP32 after working on Palm. Once a dev has a favorite they tend to stick with it. I would bet on the same thing here.

You could see a prototype in a couple of weeks, but it certainly will not be showing the speed or quality of the finished emu. I'd imagine the first few versions to be quite slow, as since this is a from scratch emu, I'm writing the bulk of it in C at the moment, as it's far easier to debug than asm.

when has coding ever been as easy as "hitting a button"

who are all these developers you keep saying have migrated to the zodiac and havent produced anything on the GP32 ever again?

when will you be happy? give all the developers out there a clue.

prove it, learn to code an show us all

thanks for the hard work Squidge

I can't wait to see the first screens. :)

Thanks Squidge for your work

Hey DaveC

I think you really need to stop bitching man. It's this kind of attitude that turns people off developing stuff. Keep it up and Squidge may well just say 'well if that's how you're gonna treat me, then I'm not gonna make a GP32 version at all'.

Is that what you want? Will you be happy then if it happens?

I too am not all that thrilled by Reesy's sudden interest in the Zodiac here either, but (apart from this obvious one comment) I will not come on here and bitch about it. There's not anything I can do about it is there? If Reesy doesn't come back, that's his decision to make, but if you start bitching about him being on the Zodiac then his decision on whether to come back or not would rather be swayed wouldn't it?

Our scene is one supported by developers who devote their free time to coding stuff for the good of the scene. They don't make money from it (except the little bit they get from people who like to donate). If they go away for a bit, then come back and find people (even one person is enough sometimes) bitching about them, do you really think they're gonna continue?

If reesy does come back to the GP after his adventures in the Zodiac scene, then we'll be all the better for it, and may even see other emus released as well as DrMD getting better. If not, then I'll just be happy to play with DrMD as it is.

And Squidge, here's to your new PCE emu. I await with baited breath.

Reesy, you just made an enemy, so watch yourself!

No, Reesy is not my enemy, the zodiac is ;) I still will have appreciation for Reesy and his work no matter what he does.

Yes, devs should do what they want, don't owe us anything, blah blah blah.

But no one in the GP32 community (unless you have a zodiac) can deny the fact that losing one of the best coders on the GP32 is really a bummer :(

Oh well.

If he somehow ends up leaving us, oh well, he alreadly gave us a nearly perfect genesis emulator, and we should all be happy for that... :D I am :D

Squidge, It sounds nice so far on your work on this pcengine emulator. I wish you the best of luck in coding it. :) Thank you for your work :D

Are there ASM cores for the CPU(s) that the PC-Engine uses? I am not sure what CPU the PcEngine uses.

Dude, Reesy doesn't even HAVE a Zodiac yet. Lighten up!

And if he does, it's his business. I'm not worried either way -- if he does, I hope he has a blast with it! And of course I hope he still digs the GP32 -- who says he wouldn't, it's a great li'l machine!

And I know all of this is coming from what you *perceive* happened with YoYo, but again, Yoyo has not *abandoned* the GP32. Since working on other platforms, he has still released an (excellent) update to his SNES emu, and is planning another soon.

I'm really not sure what your problem is...

LOL this thread has turned into an intervention of sorts for DaveC more than a thread about the new PCE emu :D

See Dave we're all in agreement here... it's like I said... dont' be so negative dude you never know WHAT is going to happen, and whatever does happen, a negative attitude about something will usually ensure that whatever you DONT want to happen will be the thing that DOES happen.
