Anybody has never mentioned the Sinclair QL. That one could also be emulated.

Why on earth would you want that emulated ? Only a select few who owned a QL might want to see this.

The QL wasnt really meant to be a games machine, there were no games I can think of on the QL which werent on the Sinclair Spectrum so whats the point of having a QL emulator ?!?

yes you are right, we need a sam coupe emulator ;)

My point is that Linux has and will always outbeat any Microsoft Windoze OS.

It's like why would you want to eat a burger when steak is already there!!!

As some one said before DOS with a RISC CPU would be so slow and just retarded.

Also, the last thing we want is Microsoft looking at the GP32 seen as well.

Any educated Linux geeks as my self understand this. It's those who do know any thing about Linux or are to lazy to open their minds,

Anyways enogh said this si not a Linux form but GP32, the God of all hand helds!!!! :D :D

This is a board about playing games on the GP32. Everyone here enjoys playing games. And Linux is just sooooo badass for gamers... I mean... you can play, like, 5% of all current titles... hmmm... I guess that whole directx thing keeps getting in the way.

Linux is a great OS for servers/business and content creation/workstation use. After having used Linux for quite some time, and having a dedicated Linux box of my own, I found I started bitching at Linux for the same reasons I bitched at MacOS. Linux still has a ways to go, and I heartily support it, but I live in a world where I need to use what is most supported.

And for those that want to program a Ultima7 port, I own a Grand Am GT...

Cheers! :p

Only problem, real problem, with any OS, are people, who in their retarded narrowmindednes and tunnelvision...nes can only see the one, the only, *their* OS...
And automatically dismis anything else as inferior. Wars, consolewars, amiga-atari st wars... FFS! Were lucky we haven't gotten extinct yet...

Frankly, I'd expect way better from people on a forum, dedicated to a machine, which represents digital diversity in all it's greatnes. :(

I second that, As the Sam Coupe could emulate a spectrum very well because of it`s z80b processor, Big brother to the spectrums z80a processor. :p

Maybe once almost all of what is possible to emulate on gp32 is done, the emu coders would form a super team and optimize the hell out of opensnes...
But if it did happen, it'd be cool...

I don't think everything is done.. Far from it.. Not talking about stuff that's hard to come around, but of all those 70s and 80s systems that were :p Dunno if it's any useful but you'll never know eheh.
BTW anyone thought of doing a gameking emulator? eheheh (one more won't hurt)

Also most of the emulators around can still be worked on, especially Opensnes!

I had an idea for a couple of new topics.. watch out for them :p
I dont think things are anywhere neardone yet...
Dont think gameking could be done, not much info on it from what i understand.
Prolly alot of strange british computers left to emulate...
but when thing s are nearing to a close... It would be awesome if the coders united to pimp out opensnes... :)

stop talking about dos, this is not possible. Just see the DosBox, it needs at least a 1ghz processor to play games as prince of persia.. So if you find another way to emulate dos than to emulate dos itself... :p

Maybe DosBox does, but there are far faster DOS emulators out there, i.e. the one being ported to Dreamcast currently. Sure there's a lot more compatability issues, but my point is that just because GP32 can't handle one DOS emulator doesn't mean that it couldn't handle a different one. Actually, what I would like to see is 8088 XT emulation on the GP32 and play some of those old ASCII adventure games like the ones that came with UpTime disk magazine... I remember when I was five years old, playing all those games on an already far obsolete computer that my dad took home from his office to make more space for newer computers.... But yeah, I'd say that 8088 XT emulation would definately be possible.

EDIT: Here's an 8086/8088/80186 emulator that someone could try to port, and reportedly it runs DOS rather well.

I would think it would be possible to do a 286 emu too. If we have decent 68000 emulation I would think 286 is possible too as they were similar in power. It would have to be done in ASM though. The IBM PCs of old were very primitive (PC speaker, CGA) , even more primitive than an Atari ST which we have a great emu for.

The PC had no sprites, no sound chip, no funky co-processors, weak graphics. I would think it would be easy.

... gp32 will be dead soon no offense heh, psp is already getting out alot of the emus, then IF a gp64 comes out that will crush them, IF Not then gp32 will be no more.

Of course ill still keep mine for genesis/snes/nes and gpcinema (my main use for it).

If you read Gameparks website, it says that they realize the PSP will crush us, and they say thats why their making the gp32 2 :)

The PSP will get many of the emulators that we already have. Many of them won't really be any better. One the emulation is perfect you are done, you won't get 120% of perfect on PSP . And isn't PSP locked at 222 MHz? Some GP32s will go that high. That is still too slow for some emus still.

Besides I don't think any of those emus work on non-Japanese PSPs anyway.

The 222Mhz is a soft-limit. In other words, you can go faster, but Sony will not currently sign applications which use faster speeds (which means nothing to us as they won't sign our code anyway).

It's unlikely the PSP will kill the GP32 yet though, as there's still only the 1.0 firmware that can easily run homebrew.

Well what I don't get, is if GP32 can run Scumm games perfectly (which are essentially DOS games are they not?), then why can't it run other older DOS games as well? Talking old Sierra games like Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest... THAT era of DOS, nothing fancy in 3D (I WISH! I'd LOVE to play Mechwarrior 2 on my GP!), just old 2d adventure games similiar to what we see on Scumm.

DaveC - come on dude I've already corrected you on this two or three times. PSP is not 'LOCKED', not the way you think. Sony's official PSP dev kits ARE currently locked, and as Squidge said, Sony wouldn't sign anything that was running faster than 222. But the hardware itself is NOT locked... so please stop saying that. Since home devvers aren't using Sony's official devkit, I'm sure they can run the full 333mhz if they choose. And I'm betting $$$ they can even overclock the thing.

And by the way, what all emulators are truly perfect on the GP32 anyways? Seriously? I mean 100% abso-bloody-lutely perfect? None of the ones I play are. NES? Some games run a bit slow, or with buggy graphics (mapper issues) or sound. SMS/GG? Well definately not perfect as of yet but maybe F-day will fix that I dunno. GB? Same deal. PC Engine? Not quite perfect but close, some games dont' run fullspeed even at 166mhz w/o frameskip. Genesis? Many games don't run full speed without a lot of frameskip. SNES? Not even CLOSE to perfect. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture.

So yes the potential IS there for these emus to be BETTER on the PSP. Even if only by a bare almost unnoticeable margin. Hey we all love our GP32's but don't kid yourself the PSP is a far more capable machine.

And also Dave, PLEASE stop comparing the PSP's 222mhz to ANY overclocked GP32's speed. THERE IS NO COMPARISON! The reason being the GP32 has only the one CPU and no other hardware like a seperate GPU like the PSP has, also the PSP has 4x as much RAM (it IS 32MB right?? I forget). So yes there is MUCH potential for better emulation from the PSP than from even a 200mhz + GP32.

Scumm its faster because nothing its being emulated, its a virtualization of the game engine ported to GP32. Sierra adventures also relied on a common interpreter,

AGI emulator for GBA

Leisure Suit Larry and Space Quest are remarkable games,

Another thing that the GP32 had going for it is the native resolution of the screen, which is very close in size to many of the consoles (pixel x pixel wise). The PSPs screen is much more dense (pixel wise), and the native resolution of the consoles often looks small, not to mention the screen is 16x9, leaving you with black lines on the side. Just say that more code needs to be written for PSP emus to resize/expand the screen... if so desired.

Cheers! :p

Hows about Flash and Java?

Plus, abit out there, Infusio (on some phones).

And a BBC and Acorn Electron emu B)

i had this thought a while back but no idea if it would be possible to do or not. has anyone ever heard of the program "gamemaker" by mark overmars? i think the url is http://www.cs.uu.nl/people/markov/gmaker/ its a cool program for making simple (or not so simple if you are good) games for computer. i wonder if it would be possible to port the games to GP32? it uses its own programming language and things like that that i dont understand at all. anyone have a guess to if it would be possible to port GML (game maker language) to GP32? i know you wouldnt be able to make games on the GP32 thats for sure

I doubt it very much.

Game Maker requires a 3D graphics card with preferably at least 16 MB of video memory. Also it requires DirectX version 8.0 or later to be installed on your computer. Make sure you have a recent version of DirectX. (You can download it at Microsoft DirectX page.) If the problem is still there your card most likely is not up to it and you better keep using version 5.3 of Game Maker or buy a new graphics card (even the cheapest currently available card will do).

EDIT: Not sure what spec the run time needs though.
