Gpx2 Just Arrived

They had also said Dev section up soon ages ago still not up and that they had the first unit and would would be posting loads of videos, only ever 2. Its fine for other people to justify gbax but it should be gbax themselfs telling people that have ordered ether directly with an email or at least posting it on gbax.

ok, sure .... craigix/gbax could stand to communicate a little better through email.

but as i've said before, the only people freaking out are the fanboys on the forums  B) ... normal people will likely be anoyed at email updates every day regarding a product they ordered!

and the gbax website is jaunty as hell so what do you expect, really?  ;)

also, think about prioritization ... you can't get everything at once! would you rather have an SDK around and no unit to program for? it had to be one way or the other, unless one was delayed for the other ;)

even so, there are already fun things you can do w/ the gp2x out of the box ... i'm a bit surprised there's no bookmarking in the text reader, hyped for the firmware update  B)

re: headphones/cases ... while supplies last ... it's a freebee no need to shed tears. i have the ASR case and actually like it a lot! very well designed. and i've never met anyone who know what ASR was, or thought i had anything other than a GBA in the case anyway. ... so i don't think anyone will see your case and imagine you're only a mere GP32 luser, rather than a GP2X luser!

maybe a i can start a rumor ... DOES THIS MEAN SOMEONE IS RELEASING ASR FOR GP2X?! WHEN IS IT OUT?!

   :p  <_<

No CD for me, bit of a rubbish day really

The device looks cool, got my 1 gig SD card, i havent got a cable to directly write to the SD card as i assumed the GP2X USB lead would work but that doesnt seem to work in XP. Trying to use this USB Monitor thing but i cant get it to work so i cant do anything.

I've ordered an 8 quid lead from amazon so i can write directly to the SD card.

As for the headphones i had none, dont care about these at all, like others have said headphones are dirt cheap anyway.

Bit gutted theres no cd (not that i could do anything with it). My fault for rushing really, if i had waited a few months for the GP2X scene to really take off i could probably put a lot of emulators and stuff on it.

At the moment theres nothing much i can do with it !

To everyone moaning about the lack of a cd - what do you expect it to contain? There's only been about 5 pieces of software released so far, all in the last few days. So to produce a cd Craig would have to download the available software and start duplicating cd's which would have delayed shipping even further. By which time a couple more pieces of software would be available, and so all you would be doing is opening your packages in a few days time instead of today and complaining about how pointless it is to have a cd with 5 pieces of software when there are actually 7 pieces available. In fact I would imagine that all available gp2x software could be download quicker than the time it takes to moan on here about not having a cd.

1. connect gp2x to pc by usb
2. run usbmon
3. select usb mode in setting menu.
then new drive will be created. you can format, copy, etc.

or just use card reader ;D

I open up USB Monitor

Under Tools/Settings i click on USB monitor under mult-user configuration and then OK.

I then connect my GP2X but nothing happens ? Thought a window would pop up or something.

Can we be clear... do you get a CD or not?

I'm not going to get mine for ages I should think 'cos I only ordered it yesterday... but I'll be seriously farked off if there's no CD!
There is no CD. I imagine Craig will be more interested in producing the CDs when there's enough stuff to make it worthwhile. At the moment, there's only a couple of releases - you could download it all in moments.

Is this some censored forum or something ? Its like you cant dare criticise anything or you'll get flamed by some mod's.

If i ordered a GP2X unit which said it comes with headphones and a cd then i would expect to get those. The headphones i'm not fussed about but the CD would be good.

If there would be no CD dont put it on the original advert . Its like the original GP32, i know a few people who solely got one because the advert said there was an emulator for the BBC, they were pretty disappointed when there wasnt a working one.

For me i'm working on two computers, i have my net connection on my work laptop and then i have my home PC which isnt connected to the net. Having a cd would have been easier for myself. Either way i cant connect the GP2X to my machine anyway so thats a waste at the moment. Granted theres not tons of stuff you could put on it anyway so yeah a cd is a waste but when you order something and are told you are gonna get one you expect to get one dont you ? I dont care about the cd/headphones, just annoyed i cant easily connect it to my PC. Cant believe Gamepark Holdings released this with this error, surely they tested it to make sure it worked !

But at the end of the day if you get something and what comes isnt what you expect i think you have a right to moan. Its like you cant say anything negative here, turning into some dictator crazed forum this is !

Saying all that i cant wait for emulators and everything else to be released over the upcoming months, should be a great device. However its my fault for rushing things, last time i buy something like this instantly, when the 'GPX3' comes out i'm waiting 6 months for it to have all the bugs fixed and software released.

I don't understand that. Surely the SDK would be on the CD? And many people would have ordered the device based on the chance to develop for it. Certainly that's why I ordered mine.

Well said woogal some people will never be happy. Is a CD really that important to you... The in the box information would have come from GPH when craigix put it onto his site anyway so I dont think its really his fault to be honest.

The only thing I will be bothered about is not getting a case but it was advertised as "while stocks last" so if I dont get one then I wont complain about it.

I think everything is going amazingly well to be honest not one LCD/Hardware fault reported so far!

I'm not a mod, and I'm not flaming. I'm just pointing out the plain and simple fact that you have in your hands one of, if not the, best handhelds in the world today and yet your day is ruined by not having an empty cd.

I think you are missing the point. If you buy somthing which says it comes with a CD and then it doesn't you have been lied to. Even if the CD isn't very important it doesn't change that fact.

Yes, I would expect the CD to contain the SDK, maybe some technical documentation in PDF and so forth.

OK... I accept that Craig at gp2x.co.uk may be busy checking units and dispatching them but the CD is referred to on the main GP2X site... so surely it should have been in the box with the unit and not down to Craig to produce?

In the absence of a CD a nice list of URLs for stuff to download for a complete newbie to the platform would be nice!

...you could remove the CD from the "in the box" page

I have NO complaints, but the general attitude that any mention of what has been promised and not delivered is some sort of insult is a little off

Paying customers and all that...

Potentially yes i have a great handheld, but for the moment i cant do diddley squat with it as it wont connect to XP so now i have to wait for the SD card reader to come in the post next week.

I didnt expect to be playing 30 emulators today on it but just to be able to try and use it would have been good. Thats nothing to do with Craig, thats Gamepark Holdings fault. Cant believe it wont connect to XP without faffing around, weird.

But yeah the device does look great, i love the icons and the way it looks and runs. Cant wait to get some stuff on it. The thought of Quake/Duke Nukem on it and many other emulators in the near future, should be brilliant. Does look so cool in black though !

Its going to be exciting seeing the new releases for it i hope every week (or month) by the developers and seeing the device evolve.

Do you want me to actually send you a CD with 780k Quake GPE on it?

From your site:

What's in the box?

GP2X console (With 64M Internal Storage)
USB Cable for PC connection (With 2.0 Support)
Preloaded Linux with Media player (MP3, Divx, WMA etc.)
CD with Games, Utilities, MP3 player, Movie player
2 * AA batteries
SDK - Make your own games!
Full User Manual
How to Guide/ Movie Samples/ Game Ports included

I'm perfectly cool with what's actually in the box, since I know that the rest will be available in the future.

BUT someone picky could actually cause you a lot of problems. Maybe you should update that page...

Hey, I'm no luddite! A list of URLs to interesting stuff or maybe an ISO to snaffle would do me fine :)

I think the missing CD is down to GPH and not you as I stated before... and I guess a lot of stuff will have smoothed out before you get to dispatching my unit anyway :)

This doesn't really hold, it didn't HAVE to be one way or t'other. It could have been both. I believed I would be getting some kind of development environment and guide to get started :

SDK - Make your own games!
How to Guide/ Movie Samples/ Game Ports included

This would have been a good thing for everyone, including GBAX. The more devving there is, the more apps there will be, the more units he will sell. It could have been made easy and quick to get started. As it is newbs will have to trawl around and set up an environment themselves. A nice little guide to setting up and having all the files on one CD would have eased the process. A setup program would have been really nice.

I wouldnt say its picky. If i got something off ebay and it didnt come with what it said in the description i think i've got a right to be 'picky' as you put it.

As i said i'm not fussed about the headphones (it was while stocks last), just a bit gutted the USB cable wont connect to XP so i have to wait for the SD card reader. My fault for presuming the USB lead would work fine.

I think with the GP2X we just have to be patient and wait for emus etc to be developed and finished, its just that its a bit like Xmas today, the new toy arrives, get it out of its box etc then 'oh' cant do much with it.
