Picture Comparison Of Retro And Whacky Consoles.

you guys with rooms full of junk should clean up and get it all organized. nothing is more fun than having all the stuff for old, working computers, all together in a tightly run setup. its so great, honest, to get an atari rig where all the carts are right there, stylishly organized, and you just kick it in comfort and rock out on it .. i've seen such setups in cars, peoples toilets, and a few other places of well-maintained organization.

of course, i have a clean-computer (halon for fires) operations center background; i can't stand clutter .. and the only old computers i can't let go of easily right now, though there have been many in the past, is an old and dusty oric-1 and the bebox .. maybe the i-opener too, though its become a bit of an art-piece, broken as it is, and i may just consider it such an installation ... ;)

*g* I've been trimming and downsizing the lot quite a bit, but can't bear to break up with most of the junk :) I hope to move this year (into a bigger place..) which should afford me room to make a wetbar and gameroom .. my goal is a nice bar for parties, with a coupel good cabs and a big TV at the end; Killer Instinct maybe, and a good Dynamo JAMMA cab with my multi-JAMMA in it to support a bunch of PCBs; put a few retro consoles on the TV, qith the wires hidden so my wife doesn't dind it ugly.. that'd be good. Keep all the real nasty junk buried away... :)

For now, I havbe this enormous basement full of shit, with pcboards on everything, machiens all over, pieces of machiens everywhere.. spare Gauntlet joysticks, extra power supplies and coindoors all over.. big mess :)

How much of your old stuff actually works? And do you play on all the old consoles and handheld?

all my stuff works, i won't keep it if it doesn't and i replace right away when something breaks. And i don't play my 2600 or 7800 very much, my most played classic console is my Atari 5200, that in my opinion is the best of the classic consoles and very much overlooked and under appreciated it, the quality for its time is amazing.

I actually liked the 7800 better than the 5200, but that's just a personal thing, I guess. I did like that it played 2600 games (I think it only didn't work with a couple of them), and you didn't need some expensive adapter to plug into it.

Why all of it works, of course :)

I don't have the room for everything to be setup all the time (though that would be *alot* of room, and I wish I had it). Though the ones that are always out are the 7800, Genesis3, Vectrex, CD32, XEGS, C64 (and the SX64 too I suppose), Apple IIC, Amiga 1200, Atari STacy 4 and the modern stuff (Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox, 360). The handhelds are always, well handy

My PS2 was the latest console to move out of active status and into the archives ;)

And here's a pic for Jeff. 1979 meets 2005 B)

I have a feeling theres still a few STacy users out there. Not many, but some ;)

One of the things I was considering recently was trying to replace the 160MB HD I put in there with an LS120. Need to find a small SCSI/ATA converter though.

As far as the ST Book, I thought about chasing one, then I thought - I play games, what the hell am I going to do with this thing?
