Squidgesnes 0.35 Hack

I am impressed, I have a steady 35+fps in Final Fantasy 5 and that is with my GP2X clocked at 200mhz.
However there is now huge graphical corruption on a map screen in Final Fantasy 5, it is basically a block of color with stripes on it.
It's only about a minute or two into the game if you wanna try yourself.

Edit: Even more weirdness in a battle, I can't see what attack I am selecting.
Edit2: This is going to be unplayable, there is weird shit happening everywhere (I just tried Super Mario Kart - I can't see the ground!).
This is with using smc files, and a power adaptor.
Edit3: Zelda has about 4fps. : (

Try turning off Squidge's transhack. It may be guessing lots of things as transparent that shouldn't be. More suppoed to be to make games where transparency is essential (e.g. Chrono Trigger future world, FF5 in the ships' graveyard) playable.

Or it could be something entirely different, of course :)

result of my testing:

- the version released by "nobody" is the only one that works without the clone keen trick.
- the yoyo settings version totally messes up cronotrigger and doesnt work with mortal kombat 3
- the reesy version works just like the nobody version, but It needs clonekeen to be run first, and it is slower than the nobody version.

so the nobody version is the one that works the best for me.

btw. the button mapping in the nobody version is different, weird...

It seems games like most games  are stuck at a high Frameskip, very choppy.

I just tried CastleVania IV and it was unplayably choppy, it ran at like 3 FPS in some places. I seem to remember my GP32 at 166 MHz played it much smoother. Maybe it would be better to port YoYo's GP32 SNES and not SquidgeSNES? I know the source is available. SNES must be the biggest pain in the ass to emulate out of ANY "16 bit" system :(

Some games work great for me, and others:

Megaman X, Chrono Trigger "freeze" with frame skip

Megaman X, as soon as any number of enemies appear on screen, the video freezes until you kill them... which is hard to do because you can only hear whats happening and not see it.

Chrono Trigger only gives me issues when I enter battles (on the non hack version)

Squidge's/Reesy's Emulator is partially based on Yoyo's Source. And both are based on Snes9X. No reason to port oSnes9xGP

I'm getting the same results as aapje89. Hacked 34 seems to work without the Keen trick for me as well.
that must be because the bug, that needs clone keen to be started first, was from .35 and the new reesy hacked snes is .35 so that is why it is not working and the nobody version is, because it is .34 which does not have that bug.

There is a Snes9x for the gp2x. It has not been updated for a while though

That's based on the same source as Squidges port ... it's all yoyofr-snes9x derived.

Didn't and don't work for me, i am getting no sound, can only load .zip files, and EVERY game i tried (only .zip format though) had only 0-1 FPS ...
with that i "played" FF6 for a sec, towns' gfx is fuxxed, so is every battle.

Tried the Commander Keen trick and also tried loading another SqSNES version (0.34, 0.34hacked, 0.35,..) first, but all that didn't change anything.

With overclocking i don't even get to the menu, it just shows me the beginning screen of sqsnes and then takes me back to gp2x' menu.

I have fw 1.4.0 but no cramfs, that won't update my kernel, it just deletes the img file when my gp2x boots...

@Reesy

(Concerning the "roms won't load" bug)
Here's what I found by doing some testing:

If I turn on my gp2x and try to run any rom with the Yoyo hacked version, all I get is a screen showing the snes skin background.

However, if I first try your non-hacked version (which doesn't have problems loading roms), then exit and try the hacked version, the hacked version has no problems loading roms.

If your having probs loading roms with it hanging on the skin screen with Reesy's hack or v0.35 and haven't got CloneKeen give this a try:

Run uae4all 0.5.1, Don't bother loading an adf, Just exit the menu when it appears then run squidgesnes - This way (zipped) roms work for me everytime :) (You only need to run uae4all once after every power up)

Since i put 0.35 on my GP2X it's been very hit & miss (more miss) and couldn't work out why. If i went back to 0.34 the roms loaded all the time. Thought it was something to do with the batteries too at one point but i put some new ones in this morning before i tried Reesy's new hack and it hung again.

Try out the above version. I've changed the way frameskip is dealt with, its now the same as Squidges original version. I've also disabled 2d acceleration to see if it is causing the rom loading problems. Let me know if you have problems loading roms with this version.

Yep, im getting nice frames but it seems to run a little slower. Nice job regardless, SMW is running near perfect in this release!
