Hi,

I have recently purchased a GP2x TV cable, however it only seems to be displaying the image in black and white. I have tried it on 2 tvs both having the same problem. Is there anyone got any ideas why this would be the case.

Thanks

Steve

Maybe you use a SCART adapter with SVHS in where you connect the cable to and your TV doesn't support SVHS...?

Are you using the default ntsc mode? If so, try switching to pal as some uk tv's don't support ntsc (especially slightly older or cheaper ones).

I tend to agree with the SCART theory. I always have this problem when connecting devices to my telly. For some reason most tellys are a bit pants at detecting whether the incoming signal is SVideo or normal RCA video in.

Here's what to do to fix this.

Plug in your tv cable, turn on your GP2x and head into the TV-Out settings. Make sure you're using the correct settings for your bit of the world - NTSC for Amurka, PAL for UK, Europe and Africa.

Activate the TV out, and then, when the image appears in black and white on your telly, pick up the remote and head into your telly's settings for the channel. It should be somewhere under "input". Change from SVideo to normal RCA Video, or the other way round, I forget. The difference should be instantly apparent.

Is there a way to convert and still be able to veiw in color? Or does the TV have to have SVHS? No way to walk around it?

You can get an SVHS->Composite adaptor. Just plugs into the SVHS connector on the TV Cable and pumps out normal Composite video (RCA Plug). Although this will result in a slight loss of quality, it works fine for me, and in glorious colour ;) Think it cost me something like £3 or £4 from a TV Repair Shop

Thats just the problem i ended up in... :(
So is there any gear i can get to use TV-out, on a TV that doesn't support "SVHS" (S-video) it only supports "AV". I want color on the AV function! (Notice i cant change any settings in any TV menu)

This is what i got. Works perfect with color and so on a TV that supports S-video.
But it only comes with black&white on the TV I got in my room :(

I use a S-video male->female converter if you wonder what that big clumpsy thing is...

Then i tried to convert the S-video cable with the cable i use from my computer like this:

But i got no color anyway. :(

So i wonder if i get a scart adapter and plug in my computer cable in it would I maybe get some color ?? like this:

Weird... My TV-Out cable arrived today, and I have exactly the same problem... :-||

My Laptop TV-Out works fine through S-Video... so I really can't understand why I'm getting a B&W image.

I've tried setting it to PAL and NTSC, and both give the same result.

Thanks for the info. I managed to sort it by changing the input to SVHS on my TV. All works fine now.

Thanks again.

Steve
