I sometimes think some men have a problem with intelligent women

I hear this a lot. It's not being intelligent that's the problem.

Then what is? Is the problem a 'woman being smarter than man'? It'd be sad if you thought that...

It varies, but saying men have a problem with intelligent women is a popular scapegoat among women who have some problem that isn't flattering to admit.

Personally, I'm flabbergasted by the entire notion of having a problem with intelligent women. I'm not saying no men do but the whole thing sounds completely arbitrary to me. I can understand not being comfortable being in a relationship with someone much smarter than you are, but the sentiment implies wanting women to be much less intelligent than you, which is also undesirable in a relationship.

Anyone who thinks the nature nurture debate falls exclusively on one side or the other is fooling themselves. It is a bit of both, and which plays more of a part will shift depending on the situation and cultural tendencies.

Nurture plays a part, as is shown by the shifting gender likes for blue and pink throughout the ages.

Then again, it would take some very hardcore indoctrination to explain the difference in the structure of male and female brains.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/01/050121100142.htm

"In general, men have approximately 6.5 times the amount of gray matter related to general intelligence than women, and women have nearly 10 times the amount of white matter related to intelligence than men. Gray matter represents information processing centers in the brain, and white matter represents the networking of – or connections between – these processing centers."

Which brings us around to the pandora. I fall more on the nurture side of the debate, as guys tend to be brought up more with technology and computer games than women, and girls have many various social pressures which would make items such as clothing seem a better expenditure than keeping up with the latest portable homebrew and emulation scene. But that's just me.

As for the intelligent women thing, I can see both sides. As many have pointed out, a lot (I would say most) of men like intelligent women. A discussion would be pretty dull if you won all the time.
But I would say that in the real world, where intellegence often means bigger paychecks...well, it can make a guy feel pretty inadequate when his girl is pulling in more than he is, which can put a strain on a relationship. So there may be something to the argument.

Another point to make is that men have a higher tendency to be diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, one of the symptoms of which is highly logical thinking. I would be willing to make the assumption that a very high population of the people on this board, and in the computing industry in general, have Asperger's.

By very high population do you mean relative to other groups or just in general? Because I doubt that people with Asperger's are anything but a pretty tiny minority here. I also think that citing "highly illogical thinking" as a symptom is a rather skewed take on it, because some of the people I've known who have the syndrome were amongst the most irrational I've ever met.

As someone who has dealt with a lot of AS kids, I would say highly logical is the wrong way of looking at it. They tend to be obsessive and narrowly focused, which can lead to less distractions, and more time dedicated to solving a problem. Whether this is focused on solving engineering problems or collecting train timetable information is, again, a bit nature nurture.
I do not doubt there are more AS kids here than in society as a whole, as this interest is quite specialised. But given that incidence of AS tends to be seen somewhere between 1-3 in a thousand, I wouldn't have thought the overall amount would be massive.
