Closed Source Ports

Iiiiiiimpressive! :) I didn't even know, that this project existed until now.
Agreed, and neither did I. This is why I wish the wiki had a work-in-progress section with articles to games and software being developed for the Pandora. Unless it's in the developer's forum its blindingly easy to miss potentially worthwhile stuff.

Ooops, sorry for not replying to emails/etc., I've been busy here and there and sometimes I forget to reply!

About Yuan Works, Wind and Water, and Pandora: Porting of W&W and development of new projects for the Pandora (read: Little Ninja) is likely to happen, as soon as Pandora is released and we can purchase and have one in our hands :)

EDIT: A bit more on Little Ninja for those interested:

God damn, you guys always have the nicest artwork. I'm definitely looking forward to this. Any possibility that those of us who preorder will get sprites to use in the game again? Cause I would be a pretty kick ass ninja. :p

o wow! I'd definitely pay for little ninja! looks great!

I just contacted the guys behind Dyson, a great little game that made it as an independent games festival finalist. Worth a play, currently available on windows & linux (half open/half closed source). Check it out at dyson-game.com . Will post if/when reply is recieved =]

Just received an answer from the guys behind Dyson

QUOTE
Hey Pandora is pretty cool I know. Problem is we can't give others the sourcecode as there is a commercial element to Dyson in the future, and we are only two people developing the game so we have our hands full. Things may change in the future though so maybe poke us again after 4 months or so.

Glad you like the game!

Sooo yah, i'd say orange with a hint of blue ;]

In regard to Caster, there is the possibility of a Linux port. If I read correctly they are looking for a developer.

This doesn't mean an ARM port, necessarily, but it could be a step toward it.

Heh... Unless something changes, both are going to happen... (If you've not figured it out, I'm trying to not jinx the deal, but I'm the guy he's talking with right now on both subjects... ;) )

Quoting two oldish green entries, because I think they deserve further attention.

Our porting guy just completed a universal binary Mac port of Cortex Command, so I’m guessing it would be easy enough to get it ported to Pandora as well. At first glance it seems the hardware should be able to handle it.

So, the only question is how and when can we get a devkit in our hands to get started?

[19:30] Wolfire Games: it could be done
[19:30] Wolfire Games: not sure if we have the resources for it though
[19:30] Wolfire Games: but if you can find a developer willing to do it, we'd give them the source

So Dan from Data Realms says a devkit will be their motivation. And Jeff from Wolfire says they'll hand the job over to a willing developer. I think we're in a better position than ever to look into these further, assuming these devs are still interested.

Both games would be fantastic for Pandora, and I mean that in the bigger picture sense, not just because I want to play them.

What say you guys? Should we put the hardware question to Craig (for Cortex Command), and the dev callout to the community (for Lugaru)? These games ain't getting any greener, the ball is in our court.

I'm now unofficially on the hook for Caster (Yes, Caster's very "green"... ;) ), but I'll go talk with Jeff here shortly to see what it'd take to get access to the version of it that Ryan did for them to make the Linux version they've got. If it's available, it'll just be a matter of my time being available or someone else that knows what they're doing on an OpenGL to ES 1.1 move.

I wonder about lemmingballz. Never really got into the game, but it seems like this and lugaru are probably the best beat-em-up we could nativly get?

That's awesome to hear. I'd never heard of Caster until you linked to its website - it looks like a lot of fun. Good stuff. :D

Awesome. :) I'd love to put something in the blog about Caster (as a "maybe" - bearing in mind that we're not limited to official/confirmed news. ;)). Or would that be a little premature?

Die Verlorene Welt

Someone from the german Pandora Board asked the developers of the strategy game "Die Verlorene Welt" for a Pandora port. The game is not finished yet (maybe in 1 year) but the developers are interested in the Pandora. But they worry about the hardware requirements. They promised to consider a port if they have enough time after finishing the game and if the Pandora can handle the game.

Looks orange or blue to me.

Looks like 'would be nice' but technically deep red, though.

Perhaps a bit premature- give it a couple of days before you do it. We're in the process of discussing royalties for my trouble on that. It's pretty much a done deal, but I would rather wait until he gives me source access under NDA first...things invariably happen. Just look at what happened with Epic on UT3 on the MacOS and Linux side of things- and they're "still working on making it happen" and "fully plan on releasing it", even though it's well past a year for either platform. ;)
