Content Ratings

For the most part comments should be fine, but there should probably be some method of flagging/reporting a download as being inappropriately labelled. Otherwise, just bother Craig about it.

I don't understand. Why would you have to hide in a corner? Do you think Craig personally will fill your pandora with boobies when you're not looking?
That'd be awful swell of the old boy.

Confirmed: The Pandora will regularly download large amounts of prawn without warning.
lol you just noticed? Why do you think 90% of the people on these boards bought one?

It's a feature! ;)

Pandora will be able to download 600% faster than all handhelds out there, and able to see all formats. And don't forget it, Pandora has two "nubs" :)

Sorry kids, Pandora is for adults only.

Pandora, now with more boobies!

I don't see how a content rating in the app store would influence your ability to do so: it can connect to the internet and it has a browser, so it can be used to look at porn, but this doesn't mean that anybody who looks at a pandora will think "oh, the mobile porn device".

The ability to mark something as NSFW in the app store will probably be useful to restrict searches, but anything more complex should stay in the description / comments.

Thank you Wheels, somebody using common sense.
I also agree that parents should know what their kids are playing.. Otherwise, that might indicate a bigger underlying problem.
Well, I created a warning for mature content, what do you think? The bottom is left blank for a description of what you find.

@Valhalla:
Yes, of course you can access anything from the browser, but what I'm trying to get across is that if the game is seriously offensive, i.e. nudity, exploding heads, etc., it should have the above warning.

It's really ugly.

Sorry.

We don't need something like that, and any way that would look really out of place.

Not to mention it's larger than a paragraph describing a game and any offensive material it might contain. We're not blind.

I made a small icon. :p

That icon seems to send two conflicting messages. NSFW and No beer. For the messages to better align, taking out the no smoking circle might help.

I agree with everyone who said that a ratings system would be unnecessary. But any mature content should be mentioned in the description.

Perhaps another good idea would be to have a comments section below the description.

And why does everyone refer to it as the "appstore"

This isn't apple, and i aint paying for shit besides the pandora!.. and the internet fees...

Well ZodTTD charges for his emulators on the iPhone, and if he decides to do the same here, then yes sonny jim, you may have to pay for (as you put it) shit.

I'm not paying for emulators! Did 'ZodTTD' make them? <_<

We could always do what the Xbox 360 does with XNA content. Just have three ratings, Sexuality, Violence, and Language. Have users rate them from 0-3 each, 3 being the most a game could have.

That way we don't assign arbitrary ratings that different countries don't agree on. If you're fine playing violent games, but hate the idea of tits in games, you can avoid what you want.

We should at least have an 18+ category for games that minors shouldn't play, for obvious legal reasons. Other than that, content descriptor tags, such as "violence", "mild violence", "blood", "mild language", "suggestive themes", etc. written by the developers should suffice. There should be a standard for content descriptor tags, i.e. mild violence shall refer to the depiction of death or suffering of a human or humanoid character, violence shall refer to the depiction of mutilation or dismemberment of any animated creature. There should be a system for flagging games that obviously disregard the standard, of course.

I'd love to take part in something like that, in all honesty I think I'd be quite useful in that department.
This should be your signature, without a reference to what "something like that" specifically is.

I'm wondering what my game would be rated as? It has no bad language, no boobs (or other nudity) and no violence.

It's a Jet Set Willy clone which involves CraigIX on a crusade to bring Pandora to the masses by disrupting church services (of various religions) and stealing pandoras from the crowd (organised religions have quickly figured that the Pandora is better than god, and so have stolen them all). The fun is in getting into the church/mosque/synagogue etc - bribing the priests, taking advantage of the incredible stupidity of the believers by distracting them with fake holy relics/free dynamite vests etc...

It was a game I was working on earlier, but I thought I might work a Pandora angle into it somehow.

Rated as?

D.
