Release Emu EX Plus Alpha ported to the Pandora

I have to admit, I've never used the Ex Plus version of the GBC emulator, as we're relatively flooded by good GBC emulators on the Pandora, so as far as I'm concerned your error report is likely to be good.

Have you checked the /tmp/pndrun.out logs?  They can often be enlightening if the program itself logs anything, and might be more directly useful to the dev.

Regarding the way your machine becomes unresponsive after exiting, is that just the nubs, or does the pandora button, e.g. not do anything after exiting?  It used to be common for after a program crash the nubs to be wrongly configured, so you needed to go back and reset them using the nub configurator in settings.

If I get chance later, I will see if I can reproduce these issues.

@joshua: looks like a SGX Driver bug.

Is it a CC Pandora model ?

In any case, can you try with latest SGX version driver and see if it works better.

Yes, according to the report on the last page it's a CC unit.  AFAIK there is no updated driver that works well on CC units, if I'm reading notaz's instructions from 2013 properly.

Yes, but I have notice most GLES|2 software / game (there are few in fact) works better with the 4.04 than with the other ones on the CC, so it's worth a try.

Good questions, thank you for suggesting things to check.  I am using a CC with the 4.00.00.01_default driver.  I tried some others using "SGX driver installer r2" -- more on that later.

To clarify how it becomes unresponsive when subsequently launching the emulator:

After the problem occurs, when I want to exit the application I press the BACKSPACE key, which normally displays the exit confirmation menu.  The game pauses, but nothing displays -- I press ENTER a couple of times without any change.  Pressing the pandora button produces no results, but holding it causes the desktop to display and the application is no longer running.

This is the output of pndrun_GBCemu.out after that happens:

If I launch the application again, the desktop remains on the screen.  The nubs do not respond.  Press or holding the pandora button produces no results.  I restart the device.

I tried the 4.04.00.01, .02, and .03 drivers with the same results from each:

A black screen displays after launching the application.  If I press the directional pad then the screen alternates with each press between a black display, the EX Plus Alpha menu, and the desktop.  Interestingly, the first time I tested the driver I did not reboot and it alternated between the retroarch menu (last application I had used), the EX Plus Alpha menu, and the desktop with each key press.  After that occurred I rebooted when testing each driver.

This is the output of dmesg under 4.04.00.03_1.6.16.4117:

I tried the 4.03.00.02_1.6.16.3977 driver.  The EX Plus Alpha menu displayed and the device was completely unresponsive.  I restarted.

Thanks for your interest in this.  I'll continue to test EX Plus Alpha as I can come up with things to try as I prefer it's interface, but use an alternative emulator for regular usage.

Should the issue with pressing the "^" quitting the app be solved by now? I still have this problem with the most recent version (Only tested the SNES emu)

edit.: and the top-right box is still there for me, I also have a CC model

I don't remember that issue. What is it about?

You mean, the tearing effect? It should be solved now, be sure you have latest PND.

When I want to change the rom directory and use the touch screen to navigate/ go up one folder the emulator crashes/goes back to the desktop.

Somebody on page 19 also mentioned this problem.

Not the tearing but there is a small square visible in the top right corner when playing a game

edit.: It's not impossible to nagivate to the rom directory, I can still use the d-pad for that

edit2.: The small square seems to be gone... it's only in the menus now :)

Hello folks. In the latest versions of the ptitSeb (thanks for the ports dude!) ports of the this emulator series, in the cheats menu, I am unable to scroll up or down on the cheat menu to select cheats. Also, attempting to utilize a cheat via stylus tap crashes the emulator back to the XFCE desktop. I have encountered this with the SNES and MegaDrive emulators and think that it is safe to say that this will happen with ALL explusalpha series emulators on the Pandora.

Also, here is the text of the pndrun.out file from (for example) SNES9xEX. It is plain text since my lurker butt is apparently unable to attach pndrun.out files.

Same here, the last version (and probably the previous one, I can't remember if I tested it) of NESemu has the same issue.

@joshua: Good exactly the same problem as you. I know there are tons of other GB emus on pandora but this is my favorite GB emu. This happens on both versions from the repo.

Can you try those version:

MDemu

NESemu

GBCemu

(EDIT: links removed, better versions are on the repo)

I think it's fixed, but I prefer confirmation before flooding the repo...

Sorry for my english ;)

Can anyone explain to me why this happen to me?:

From the beginning on the snes and gba emulators are playing very slow, especially when much is happening on screen (i know it is normal). But for example on Golden sun the fighting the sound is cracking and the picture is very slow.

I'm using firmware 1.72 and emulators 1.59.11 - But this happens even on older firmware and emulator version. I have tested it to play on cpu frequenzy 1000 - But no change. I'm using emulator configuration default and test some other (sound buffer, picture zoom)

I see on youtube that for example Golden sun is playing very smooth.

Any ideas?

Ok,now it seems to go - After some years o_O I have deleted the config data and configurated it to the exact same - Now for example Golden sun runs smooth with cpu speed 600 o_O No idea why it does now - I have deleted the config data a lot in past, but never a change o_O Pandora must have seens that i am writing in this forum - Pandora is searching for another Pandora and is happy ;)

Good it's fixed (I guess it was auto frameskip not active or something like that).

I also found a bug. It happened with NEO.emu but probably happens in the other versions as well: It seems you can configure only ONE input device.

I was trying to play Magical Drop III with my wife with one USB controller and one Bluetooth controller. I could set ONE of those up without any problems, but trying to configure both (one for player 1 and one for player 2) always lead to an error message that there's not enough space for another profile and I should delete one.

I guess all those emulators use the same setup system for inputs, so it probably happens with all of them.

I can confirm this with SNES too.
