Ok I have just purchased a gp2x off eBay, some games were already on there and I have been trying to work it out but I’m struggling and wondered if any one of you can help me.

Going threw the CD I got with the pack I saw Quake & I thought wow I want to see this game running (I also saw Duke Nukem I attempted that and failed miserably), so I read the read me file I followed what it said but it does not work, I’m must be making a fairly obvious mistake but for me being new to this I cant get my head round it.

I have included some screenshots, it would be great if someone could send me a screenshot of were and how they have there Quake files set up.

Sorry if this post is somewhere obvious I did a few searches and couldn’t really find what I was looking for.

Please help……

Here are the screenshots.

You need to put PAK0.PAK and PAK1.PAK from Quake installed on a PC into the ID1 folder. You also need to put AUTOEXEC.CFG and CONFIG.CFG in there.

You can create the .CFG files yourself: just open up a text editor and save a blank document as the file names. Make sure you turn any word wrap feature off and that you save as "all files", so that the files aren't automatically saved as text files.

Quake should now launch okay and you need to press the joystick in, like a button, to select menu options.

I had this problem myself and the friendly folk here helped me out, so this is good advice I'm passing on. For future reference though, have a look to see if your problem has already been posted, rather than start a new thread. I know for a fact that it has, as the problem was mine.

Good luck and let us know if you get Quake working.

I shouldn't think anyone will send you their .PAK files, as the combined size of the two is 51mb. Strictly speaking, you need to own Quake in order to run its port to the GP.

You might want to *cough* Google for the .PAK files*

*I didn't say this.

kk thanks if that fails I will just have to purchase a copy and try it out :D I will let you know if it works, thankS for all your help.

The shareware version works too, and that's pretty easy to find. You'll only get episode 1 of course, but I think you might live.

You're new, so I'll just offer this:

You're not allowed to ask for full retail versions of games. It's in the rules ... read 'em.
