It's the details that take longest (Part 1)

The default Pandora stylus has always seemed fine to me to, I normally use a cheap metal extendable DS stylus I picked up in a pack of 5 for dirt cheap a while ago. the extra length for me made it that little bit more comfortable to use.

...that's what she said, oooohh :)

Sorry :) so immature

I actually found the X-Stylus to be less comfortable, because you have to hold it at exactly the right angle and I have a tendency to rotate the stylus in my fingers.   OTOH  I actually really like the Pandora stylus, and the only thing I might change about it is the tip.  The DS-Lite stylus had a soft tip, (silicon I think) and if something similar could be done with the Pandora stylus I'd be happy with that. Either way,  I don't see a need for the tip to be user replaceable.

personal thoughts

wish: a little longer and thicker with a replacable tip and a suiting screw driver at the end (hex, torx, whatever is chosen)

reality: a little longer and thicker would be nice, but wallys suggestion appears quite sensible to me, this way people that don't like the one that ships with the Pyra can choose from a variety of alternatives.

I agree with several changes suggested in here.  I like that the XStylus can give a bit more length and width, but if you go that route I really want it to be at least the same size as the Pandora stylus when closed.  It also needs more durability.  I am sure those who are not Pandora or XStylus owners will have a negative reaction to their stylus breaking shortly after getting the Pyra.  As much as I like what the XStylus does, I think that if it isn't of a very high quality it might be better to stick with something more traditional, be it a Pandora-like stylus, or something compatible with Nintendo devices.

Here are my concerns in roughly the order I feel they are important:

Stowable

Durability

Length

Width

Tip (precision, not too soft or hard)

Cost (for replacement, but, more importantly, I prefer money get spent on making the Pyra as good as possible before messing with the stylus)

Weight (I like a little heft)

Appearance

I prefer a solid stylus, I'm fine with the one we have. It's good to have options anyway.

Just be sure that it locks well inside the device, how it works now on the Pandora is just perfect.

Thanks for the update ED, always nice to hear about progress being made :)

As for the stylus, this is the one I use for Pandora, when compared to the stock Pandora stylus, it is cheaper, higher quality, needs no rounding of the tip, leaves no deposit on the screen, and is more comfortable to use.

So long as the Pyra stylus is of a similar dimension to an existing system, such as DS Lite, Wii U or 3DS then there will always be a good selection of 3rd party alternatives available.

Since the realy cool Drastic Emulator (playing Traumacenter on Pandora in the Waitingroom from the Medical Praxis is realy nice :) ) i now use the Touchscreen a lot more,

And because the Pyra should have a lot more Power for the DS Emulator, i think i wants to use the Pyra also for Drastic..

I ditnt want the Pandora Stylus on Pyra, just the same Sort of Stylus..

I am fine with the Pandora stylus. The X-Stylus feels a bit flimsy to me, and I don't like that you have to open it first. Yes, that saves some space, but we should have enough space anyway. It also saves some weight, but that's not worth the loss in strength.

I would prefer to have a stylus slot that is compatible with Pandora and NDS, and a default Pyra stylus that is mostly just like the Pandora stylus but a bit longer (there should be room for that, right?) and with a tip that absolutely does not scratch the screen. If it's going to be made out of the same material as the case, and the case is supposed to be made out of a material that is more scratch-resistant, then I'm worried about the stylus being more scratch-causing.

People seem to be forgetting that a custom made XStylus, when closed, will be the same size and shape as whatever non-XStylus stylus might be used.  It doesn't have to be opened to use it if you prefer the feel of a solid piece of plastic (and the XStylus, when closed, does feel pretty solid) and the design has only improved since the original run so I have full confidence that Elton has learned to make it stronger and less prone to breakage.

Granted if you aren't opening it you aren't taking advantage of the benefits it tries to bring to the table, whether those things are actually useful to you personally or not is pretty moot at that point.

Personally I do like the wider grip of the XStylus. I ended up not using mine so much because it didn't give enough of an extension, starting out so short: I would have preferred if Elton had produced the DS stylus as intended so it could have been so much longer but understand the business reason he switched to the 3DS.

If something the size of the Pandora stylus were then increased by 60% via XStylus flip that would make it a much more comfortable length in my opinion.

So to summarize my points:

1) The XStylus has features that some people would find useful

2) It doesn't need to be opened, if you don't like the features it will happily stay closed and locks fairly tightly to prevent accidental opening, making it for all intents and purposes just like a standard plastic stylus.

Therefore, all other things being the same, the XStylus makes the most sense to please the most people: either you want the features and you use them or you don't want the features and don't use them.

Of course all things are not the same.  How much will the XStylus cost?  What will it be made of? What other options are there for a standard stylus?

The XStylus can very easily be made with a metal core giving it some extra weight, but a non-extending stylus can be made with an entirely metal shaft giving it even more heft. Are either of those things options in this case and what are the cost differences?

I can't think of a single reason to dismiss the XStylus outright.  Please investigate, find out what the cost breakdown will be and then ask people whether the extra buck or two (I'm guessing) is worth it.

I've used my XStylus both closed and open.  It's all very well to say you don't have to open it, but even closed it doesn't have the same feel as a regular stylus.  The middle part flops around too easily,  and the sides tend to bow, giving it a squishy feel.     It's possible that the build quality has improved since then but based on my experience with it I would still rather have a regular stylus than use a closed XStylus.

As I've used a NDS Lite for a long time, the only thing I want to ask is :

please make the stylus durable. I used to totally file'em and after that they couldn't stay in the case anymore.

I couldn't say either way on the stylus. I've never used the touchscreen anywhere near as much as I would have liked, as it needs so much pressure to operate it; at least on my unit.

For the reasons Wally and slimeycat have mentioned, the DS ones being easy to replace with third party ones... And others having preference for larger stylus...

How about considering Wii U stylus when making for Pyra.

For the same reason, if lose it could replace with cheap 3rd party Wii U one. I'm guessing those are fairly cheap and commonplace like the DS ones?

But they are that little bit longer
If it can fit, I don't mind the Wii U stylus.
