ruffnutts....

Dont think it matters - you could switch between, dont think you need to use both at the same time as for as I know..

Any popular tracker is welcome to me. Something old-school like soundtracker or octamed or (that might get hard to find) TFMX.

Cool, I used to use this on the DS... and I always used the mic to record my own samples.

EDIT:
Okay, I'm digging through the Wiz/GP2X/GP32 file archives and downloading all of the tracker-related applications I can find, and I'm going to test them all through Ginge (on f/w 1.6.1).

My results so far:

Working Perfectly:
-Drumbox
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-OhaxmUkow
Perfect so far!

-PBSynth:
(no video yet)
Works fine! I just needed to calibrate my touch screen.

-StepSeq2x
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtIQsaD_gFk
Perfect! Even the touch screen works!

Mostly working:
-Milkytracker
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGbXWX0bcz8
Touch screen control does not work, and I don't see a cursor for the joystick on the screen, although it is working. You can still play or edit songs, but it's just harder and you have to keep track of where the cursor is. I've also noticed that the playback is either ahead of or behind the cursor position when songs are played. I have yet to try my own XM files. However, in the older version of this program, none of these problems occur, but keep in mind that this version doesn't have touch screen support to begin with, so it won't have touch screen support. However, I'm currently working on porting the most recent version of Milkytracker to the Caanoo. I'm almost done; just need to remap the controls.

-ExDrumMachine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qstxwwQUUxo
Works fine, but it often crashes and returns to the Ginge menu.

-GP2xTracker:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqGPKhH0g28
Works, but there's lots of slowdown. It's not complete software yet, anyway...

-OldPlay
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiNOAzF1eNM
Works, but the playback is a little quiet and it's buggy.

Not working at all:
-Xylophone
It hangs after startup.

-BSPlay
Returns to the Ginge menu.

-GP2xPD
Returns to the Caanoo menu.

-Soundbox:
Returns to the Ginge menu.

Thanks a lot
No problem; happy to help. ;)

Oh, and I think it would be best to have the tracker set up like Milkytracker for the GP2x is, with part of the screen being taken up by the tracker window, and the rest by an on-screen keyboard and various pages of options, utilities, and functions, navigated by using tabs and/or buttons. Also, a fullscreen mode could be toggled, in which case the screen would be taken up entirely by the on-screen keyboard and an instrument switcher. This would, of course, more some time to redesign, but I think it would be a better choice then just "switching the screens" and would allow for a more comfortable interface.

Eh? Oh, I thought it did at first, but it turns out, it doesn't. >_>

And apparently, there's an older version of Milky (non-touchscreen) that is supposed to work better (at least for the Wiz). I'm just about to try that one out.

Once I get the Caanoo toolchain setup and whatnot, I'll try my best to try to port milky over to the Caanoo. I've already downloaded the GP2x source code and I'm just about to look through the forums for some information and tips on making Caanoo ports from Wiz/GP2x software. I do not have much experience with cross-compiling or any prior experience in porting software to the Caanoo, so I'd appreciate any tips/help.

EDIT:
Okay, I've just tried that older version of milky out. The mouse pointer does show up in this version. If only I had the source code (which was probably never released) for this version, I could figure out the differences between this and the newer one and possibly add in the mouse cursor... or I could just snoop around the source code of the newer one as usual, to gain a better understanding of how the program works.

EDIT:
Okay, screw the older version of milkytracker. I've successfully compiled 0.90.85 for the Caanoo. I just need to remap the controls, then I'll upload it to the file archive and post it in the news section. :)
