Pandora Alternative

Beware of those Chinese phones if you live in a hot climate.

I have a dual-sim Blackberry-style phone and when I took it to Thailand it kept turning itself off in the extreme heat.
That's fine. I keep turning myself off in extreme heat as well. At least the phone doesn't dunk itself in ice water periodically.

Wow, you must have some clown pockets or something. Will probably go well with this clown-colored netbook.

If the Pandora is 'pocketable', which was Laurencevde's distinction between it and existing Netbooks, then this thing surely is!

Personally I'd never carry anything breakable in my pocket, even in my clown pants.

on a pocketability note, i almost managed the rip off the top part of my DSi the other day. it was sitting in a outermost pocket of my backpack, while there were some harder things in the interior of the backpack. in this config i accidentally banged my back against some metal bars, the backpack serving as a cushion. as a result nothing snapped but the top part of the clamshell is all squeeky now. i guess it took most of the forces in that stint. comes to show clamshell is durable but it's not indestructable. i also know of people who have destroyed their pocket cameras just by passing through the subway roll-bar gates -- those are at pocket height and often hit that area when one passes through.

or you could just make one of these

I actually put my hands over my pockets when I pass through those. I do a lot of other paranoid things like this.

I dont get it. Why don't you just push the bar with your hands and not your thighs? Oh I see, you didn't pay <_<

This is more for the Gaming fans but i would imagine all sorts of things
could come from it ,the dev that created this rocks.

One thing i am holding out for on the pandora is the ability to stream
a game from windows to the Pandora with such an app like StreamMyGame
or the psp app remotejoy ,something like that ,bare in mind that
StreamMyGame has been writen for windows, linux ubuntu and PS3 ,dont know
if theres source code availible ,but i want to do all sorts of remote play
with the Pandora as it's the perfect device for it with desktop gaming in
mind.

How about these two?

They seem expensive and the build quality isn't that promising.

Didn't Criag make some comment about 3 months ago, wanting to 'punch those vaporware twats in the face'?

I can only imagine in my wildest dreams that the manager of ANY company would make such a statement when he was SURE his units were about to ship.

Strangely I have a difficult time imagining most project managers making that statement regardless of circumstances ;P

I've been using my Motorola Droid to run nes, snes and gba emulators. There are also some games available through the android marketplace. It has a qwerty keyboard and a dpad, so gaming is not so bad. Its the only thing keeping me sane while I'm waiting for my Pandora. ;)

I was going to buy a UMID M1 but instead i bought a viliv s5 ,was a big
fuck up on my part as the viliv cost soo much and was very bad to use
in normal general use ,the UMID M2 looks lightyears ahead of the Pandora
in just about everyway ,it's from a fairly small company but they do not seem to
have the major problems the OP team are having in regards to cases and software
over a year on.

Yep if that UMID M2 had games controls it would destroy the pandora in everyway
possible apart from battery life i guess ,but then you do get windows 7 and
tons of games emus and media ready to play.

I am still all for open projects like Pandora but i am starting to feel messed about
by all these delays ,i mean i actuly think OP are starting to cut corners just
to get the Pandora out cheaper and quicker and yet the tech is much older now than
when i first put down my preorder so it doesnt add up to me.

anyway that's what i think how bout u
