My dad is very suspicious about the Pandora.
I can't really prove that this is not a hoax/scam.
Please, could somebody give some reference on the credibility of the developement team?

~4000 pre-orders have already been made almost all by bank transfer. if thats not trustworthy enough, you may have to wait til the second batch

Ah, the joys of having to convince your parents of your every bigger purchase...

Just wait until the first batch is out.
If your daddy is a technically minded person, you could show him the youtube videos of the prototypes.

I'm waiting for the second batch for similar reasons [I could order it with my own money, but I don't want my parents saying anything]

You could show him the prototypes, the refunds, or just wait until a few have shipped.

I should think the 6+ year history of Craig's and EvilDragon's stores should be reference enough. These guys have been selling handhelds and accessories for a long time and the records of how they do business are these forums.

I think Craig's reputation on these boards as a dogy car salesman should convince your dad :P.

But in all seriousness, they're both very reliable. GBAX.com and the German website have been used by many people, including me.

Is your dad interested in a quality second hand automobile?

But seriously, what a complex and lengthy scam it would be, the long con indeed.

Videos, blog, history, phone number, address, names, we can't give much more than that, I tend to almost live on this forum too :)

What's the worst that happens? You are out $330 and shipping. I forgot to mention all of the suspense of waiting for your Pandora is Free of Charge. OpenPandora is covering that bill for you entirely.

In all honesty though - these guys are well-known in the community and very reliable. Many of the parts you can see in the videos they've made cost up to 1000 dollars each. They're just barely breaking even on the first batch of 4000 - a scam would bring in tons of money for little expense. Some of them have even promised that the first batch would be released because if it didn't and they had to refund the money, they might go bankrupt. (Yes, they've invested that much of their own money into this.)

That was my point as well: this is the worst scam in history. High enough profile that those involved would have to go into hiding, but the payout is only about one million USD. We have video evidence of at least 3 members of the team, so even if the others are imaginary characters played by one of these three, that's still only $333'333.33 each, even split. Even if there were only one scammer, there isn't really a lot you can do on a million dollars, especially not when you're trying to run from authorities.
On the other hand, maybe that's what he wants us to think. "This is the perfect scam because it's too stupid to be a scam! No one would seriously question it! MUAHAHAHA!"
And then the side panel to his secret lair opens up where he can gloat over Superman's corpse.

'Consequence9' said:
"DAD! It's science, you wouldn't understand!" should do the trick.
Calmly explain to him that each person who buys a Pandora sells two Pandoras to two other people, and then there are some question marks, and then profit.

I'd be amazed at such a long drawn-out and complex scheme.

As, indeed, Bernard Madoff's customers were :)

There are no guarantees in life, alas :(
