So, dear people,

Weekend have the time made and can be a bit of you today, the (presumably first)
Cradle for the WIZ present.

Everything is still very "beta" but the basic functions such as USB HOST / HUB and connect the serial (with integrated
MAX3232 converter) is in a "beta release" already successfully possible

As you can see, I got me an old, broken F100/F200 Cradle served,
which ideally served as a good basis .

Here for you miss a few photos in advance:
(The otherwise usual, detailed reconstruction photos coming soon even after

... and a short video (sorry 4 low quality )

Like I said, the cradle is still in beta testing and is still, of course, refined and expanded with functions ..

it says pretty clear what it does:

yeah i'm sure it's as clear as glass if you know what USB HOST / HUB and connect the serial (with integrated
MAX3232 converter) means!!
so what does this allow?

It allows a limited functionality (but also the mostly used parts) of the original gp2x cradle to be used on the Wiz. So you can use USB keyboards and joypads, for example (as shown in the picture). The serial is really only meant for developers and kernel hackers.

ok, cool thanks for the info. controler may be good for multi player.
will it allow you to see the wiz screen on a monitor?

no, USB, there are no usb monitors

There are USB VGA adaptors however, but that would use up too much cpu power to be usable.

And the video out isn't connected to the Wiz.

This function i´ll be add as fast as possible.
Tony (from GPH) told me, that the TV-Out function is coming soon but
not available at the moment.
After it´s fixed in the Firmware, i´ll also add a TV-OUT to the cradle .

So, today there is a small update from me again for the Wiz-Cradle:

I added the following features:

1. External power supply for the Cradle (including built-in voltage stabilizer)
2. Stereo audio OUT on the RCA jacks
3. Supply to the GP2X WIZ inclusive charging function (!) via external cradle power supply (which is doesn´t work at F100/F200 ;) !)

Here are a couple of photos:

Safety first B) !
First, the cradle & the Wiz will be protected from power surges, a voltage stabilizer
(i use a Typ 7805, 2A) should be included:

After than must make safe, that the Wiz don´t interfere with his own supply and the Cradle supply, so i was integrating a diode as a "one way filter":

DSCN5888.jpg

Now the pins for left / right audio out put to the RCA jacks of the cradle and test:

Now, wireing the USB 5V+ power / charging cables:

Now we already charge the GP2X Wiz when the external cradle power supply is plugged :) !

So, that´s it for now.

Once I have some time and have once more come on, I will of course promptly post here ..

man I'm falling in love with you.

So once this whole idea is done and ready, do you have plans on making it an actual product or are you going to give instructions on how to build it :|

Hey Spykez, yes, thats planned :) , when it´s finished, i think i´ll make a "HowTo" tutorial for it.
Another idea is to create a new cradle (not a reused old from F100). I stay continious in contact with some guys of GPH and
every time i let them know all my ideas and my doing, maybe we create in next future together a professional cradle for the Wiz ;)

I´ve also a lot of other ideas and addons for the Wiz (for instance as a Controlcenter in a car Hifi environment and much more :) )

So let me say: keep curious ;)

well Im not good at doing this sorta thing by myself but I would def pay for one.

So, yesterday i had some time to fix and add some
features to my WIZ-Cradle :) .

First of all i must solve the 4 port Hub problem, because the cradle
i´ve used was definitely defect, so i couldn´t use the internal HUB Chip :( .
But no prob, i bought a cheap 4-Port Mini-Hub (it´s using the same 850´er HUB Controller)
disassambled it and solder it inside my Cradle.

DSCN6009.jpg

The Hub you can see is really small :D (even smaller than the Mini-Hub i´ve used inside my F300-Mod ;) )

The whole "nacked" cradle you can see here:

DSCN5997.jpg

After this, i made some tests with a USB-Keyboard and some other USB Devices (at the end with 4 devices parallel):

DSCN6025.jpg

DSCN6041.jpg

Okay, fine, it works ;) !

Now i´ve to check the free space and find the right place for the Hub:

DSCN6046.jpg

At the end i assemble the Cradle and made the final tests:

DSCN6050.jpg

DSCN6060.jpg

So, now we have a full functionally WIZ-Cradle with following features:

- External powered (usually 6-9V )with internal Power protection
- WIZ charging function (if you plug in the Wiz, it will be automatically charged)
- serial connector with build in TTL-232-Converter (to access and control the Wiz-OS via Terminal)
- 4x port Active High-Speed Hub (USB 2.0 and 1.1 Auto switching)
- Stereo Audio-Out RCA-Connectors (to connect your WIZ to your HIFI)

Finally i must say, at the moment only work some USB devices , eg. USB keyboards , Joysticks and so on...
Other devices (USB-Sticks, WLAN, etc.) will be successfully detected, but the actually WIZ-Firmware doesn´t
support it at the moment. (So the drivers must be manually included )

Hoping of a new Firmware, so i think even more devices will be supported at the default firmware...

(Tony! Can you hear me ;) ???)
