Ugh, this will be my only look at this topic. There are more Atheists on this board than Theists, so it always turns out to be a gang up to disprove Christianity. Those who are Christians have their reasons, please don't try to disprove the decision.

I have my reasons for being a Christian that I can find no other explanations for. This is coming from years of research and thinking about it.

I respect that there are people who just won't believe in the Bible for their own reasons (even if it is because BBC said so ). Just please don't try and force these reasons on others.

And that's my last post in this topic :).

Edit: Ok, this isn't another post! Just an edit.

Pinkspider, wouldn't a "weak" Atheist be an Agnostic then?

Edit again: ESN beat me to it ^^.

Final edit: Just because someone is a twat and happens to be Christian doesn't mean that they are a twat because they're Christian. I'd have thought that you wouldn't think I'm a bad person kknd_cf. I've hardly been unkind to you and I'm a Christian. It's a little bit insulting to be so stereotypical.

Ok, my last edit... Really: Btw, I'm Church of England. Catholicism has quite a few things wrong imo. Make sure you know the different branches of Christianity before slagging the religion off as a whole!

And for 'god's sake, sam, it's "atheist". That goes double for you kknd since you were so proud of being one. Learn to spell your own belief system.
Shite
@spray Yeah most the Christians I've met are total twats. I used to go a lot to this youth club (I do every now and again) and at the end they gave you all the Christian BS which they cleverly incorporate how "This day wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for God". Anyway......
There's this woman there that annoys the living shite out of everyone. In the annoying speech she nods her head all the way through it and says "yes" "that's true" and puts her hand on her heart like she's having an orgasm! It's annoying as shit!
Also one of the youth leaders there is a Christian and is (well he should be since he is Christian...) into all that "Be kind to your fellow man" which is a great idea but of course like most Christians he doesn't follow it, he's the most horrible twat I've ever met in my life! He treats everyone like shit. That's yet another part of Christianity that pisses me off. Rules that are clearly impossible to follow. How the fuck can you not feel jealousy, how can you deny the way you feel! What complete and utter Bullshit! You get these little catholic kids shitting themselves that they might have to go through purgatory for not denying a feeling!
All that can be said is:
WTF

Athiest: A person whose worldview embraces Atheism [noun] [OW]. The natural condition of all humans at birth and prior to indoctrination in or self-invention of Theism. Atheists claim there is no proof for God. "Strong" Atheists claim God does not exist. "Weak" Atheists do not deny the possibility of God, or that proof might eventually be discovered. Athiest and Athesit are Fundie synonyms of Atheist [SD]. The word Atheism [CE] derives from the Greek atheos, a = without, theos = God.

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=mozc...utf-8&q=athiest

You were just trying to annoy me by changing the first word! :p

I thought weak atheists didn't believe in a God but don't rule out the possibility. Whereas strong atheists believe that there is no God (slight difference). Then you have agnostics who just don't believe in anything. Pussies. :p

Why don't you people just swallow your pride and pray anyway? It might make a difference even if you don't believe it.
Didn't want to respond to this 'question' in the other thread Dozer but to someone who really doesn't believe in a god this has nothing to do with pride. I have taken care of many sick and dying people and when they asked me I would always pray for/with them to whatever god they believed in but I would always be clear about not believing myself.

If someone asks me however to pray or hope for someone and I am on my own I will do this in my own way. I think that a serious expression of hope / prayer should come from deep within you and should therefore be real. When I think about someone and hope for him (instead of praying) I am doing things in my own way and therefore it is more real and sincere.

Think it's clear I don't believe in a god of any kind, I think it's great if people find strength or hope in religion and it helps them through life but I don't feel the need for this myself. To me life simply is what it is, I don't have great questions (we only seem to question our own existence, never our neighbours, I think we have issues) and I have no problems with death being the end. Guess I'm just boring :)

What?

I went to a Christian Society at uni once with a Christian mate of mine (probably one of the nicest people in the world btw), they sang all these tacky 80s songs... I was sitting there cringing and these 2 people at the front starting raising their hands to the heavens during the chorus. I just couldn't stop myself laughing, I mean these weren't even classic hymns and the priest was playing a guitar ffs.

Kind of embarrassing for my mate though... :p

(Other than that I have nothing against Christians, just Christianity)

Sorry nerd of nerds, but I wanted to get a more complete demography :D And I also left out some religions, not like I could fit them in 15 lines.

I'm agnostic. I believe that "God" is our past, present, and future. When we die, we become one with the Universe, and through our combined minds the Will of the Universe is formed. The Universe ends when its beings have evolved to the point of becoming one with the Universe, and then the Big Crunch occurs to restart the Universe with the Big Bang. If there are aliens in this universe, then of course they shall join us. Only "good" souls join the Universe, while the rest are either sent back to the mortal realm (neutral judgement) or face something like "rehibilitation", then sent back to the mortal realm to make sure the soul is well again. As you can see, I do believe in reincarnation, except I don't think humans can reincarnate into animals, as without the higher functions it would be harder to judge if they have behaved better.

I have no real data to support my beliefs, nor do I base any decisions on these beliefs. They are just my beliefs based on what little information I have on the universe and my personal conclusions based on this information, combined with my conclusions on my own opinions. One should never make a decision on a belief unless there is no other option.

"Something, but not really practicing."
I don't know, you could say that I'm an Atheist because I don't really believe any religion and I don't agree with their practices, but then there are those times when I "wish" for something to happen. To whom am I wishing to? I don't know...God? I thought I was Atheist? The only time I get "religious" is at those times when I just "wish" for something, like, I wish I don't fail a test, I wish he/she didn't get hurt, I wish she likes me, I wish there would be a GP32 Euro Launch (I guess it came true, didn't it? :D )...Then when I think about death, of course I become religious because it's too hard to accept that death is the end and I just "become religious" for that time to make myself not worry about my life ending at that point in time, but then my Atheist side wonders exactly how things like life after death can happen considering scientific fact and how we came about to live here on the earth...

I believe that is closer to the meaning of Agnostic then Atheism. Logic usually rules Atheism, where Agnosticism can have belief.

But really, your beliefs don't mean anything unless you make decisions based on them. In the popular opinion, killing is a sin. So how can a hitman be a Christian knowing he'd just go to Hell? Perhaps it's on the off-chance that he can be redeemed, but obviously he is not taking the true beliefs of Christianity into account. Therefore, is he really a Christian?

ummmmm...i think you have it a bit wrong...

see, sinning doesn't condemn us to hell...the price has already been paid (by jesus who died on the cross) so if we believe that jesus died for our sins then we get to go to heaven...

think of it this way... you are offered a free gp32 ( :D ) but the only thing you have to do is flash the firnware on it to get it...some people might think this is bullshit (yes, christians can swear too  ) and refuse to do so, but the ones that DO flash the gp32's firmware are rewarded with MANY emulators :D

so that was pretty cheesy...but it was a pretty good comparison..wasn't it

So what you are saying is a kid in China who dies a week after birth and doesn't even know about this "Jesus" dude will burn in hell forever. I see. It makes a whole lot of sense <_<

And Muslims, Buddhists, and all of the followers of other religeons will burn in hell too because they don't believe in Jesus ;)

This is the kind of stupid shit (one of many) that just proves there is no God. People just like to make stuff up because they can't handle reality. Praying has never worked outside of self "hypnosis". There are no true "miracles" outside of the occasional Jesus shaped oil stain in a driveway that sends the delusional into a frenzy.

You are a mammal, 99.9% genetically similar to a chimp, you eat, shit, and fuck just like the animals and are just a series of chemical reactions. There is no mysterious supernatural force (and no evidence of it) that governs humans, the earth and the universe only physics. It is just a fact. Evolution happened, the earth is more than 6000 years old, fossils are the remains of previous life.

deal with it.

Oh and P.S. I am an atheist

The ten commandments were put there by PEOPLE to keep everyone in line.

Also do you know that the Christian "miracles" of the Bible were stolen from other religeons? they did this because they didn't wan't the Christian God to come off as a l4m3r, It is true.

Also Christmas was celebrated on the 25th because Christians hijacked a Roman holiday on that day that celebrated "the return of the sun" . You see, the shortest day of the year is Dec 21st and by the 25 they noticed the days getting longer and celebrated. No Jesus birthday.

Also the Bible says every good slave should obey his master. (not that slavery is wrong to begin with?)

And Jesus even said in the Bible that wearing clothes from different cloths is a sin. How many of you are now sinnin'

So hoaky

There you go. You summed up the biggest reason people believe in this stuff.

Because it is too hard to accept reality, you will die. This is why they make up this "eternal life" flummery.

It is ok, when you die you won't know it. It is not like you will be laying in a casket thinking, "hmm this sucks I can't move around and play fGen on my GP32 anymore" It will be just like before you were born. How did you feel 100 years ago? Well, that its how you will feel when you are dead.

Sorry to be remarkable rude but i'm extremely against christianity. Reasons you ask well here we go............:

1. It's homophobic.
2. It's a religion based on "peace and love" yest the "God" of this insane religion happens to be the biggest mass muderer of all time, flooding the whole world because they weren't perfect for him. "Aww what a nice story and he gives us a rainbow so we don't give a shit awww"
3. "Thou shall not kill" but in the time of the crusades you were granted passage to heaven if you killed a Muslim. Yeah that's right.... yeah...
4. It's all bs that is made to make a nation stronger.
5. Most of the Bible (well the shitty miracles) has contradicts science at every given opportunity)
6. The usual one: Why do no miracles happen today and why doesn't jesus's spirit appear and why doesn't god give us the thumbs up every now and again.
7. The Bible is full of sexist comments.
8. The best one: IT'S A LOAD OF BS THAT CONTRADICTS ITSELF MANY A GOOD TIME.

That's why I'm an athiest and I can't understand how anyone can be taken in by the nice promises, commercialism and "niceness" of Chrisitanity.

Goodbye and Goodnight.
TBH I agree with some/ all of that ^_^.

If I where to choose a religion it would be Buddhism (sp?) but im not religious at all. I wish I was tho... no afterlife scares the shit out of me :(
Ill give you the standard response for this:

How do you know what it will be like after death? No one knows, we can only conjecture based on what little information we have on the human brain. Considering all substantial data we currently have, the logical conclusion is that we simply cease to exist after death. However, this "substantial" data is mostly based on assumptions because we really know so little about the brain works. For all we know, your brain waves fly off and join other brain waves somewhere "out there". While there is no conclusive evidence of this occurance, there really is no conclusive evidence disproving it either. So therefore either one could be more likely, given the problems facing an "true" answer.
