I just got an ad for http://www.fon.com/en/.

This looks interesting for getting free web access out and about say on a Pandora.

Has anybody tried it ?

Google and Ebay are evil and will force you to get a fonera router and a paypal account.
Will these 2 protect you when your hotspot is abused?

My dd-wrt router runs a hotspot for the German hotsplots network.

I have 2 Fon routers. the new fon+ from the fon website is almost unusable (I have yet to put Open-WRT or DD-WRT on it) but the old fon is brilliant.

It would also allow for packet injection because of its Atheros Chipset if connected to the Pandora by a USB to Ethernet adapter.

The fon is truly an amazing piece of hardware, but the firmware it comes with is terrible. I plan on doing plenty of security testing on my own network when the drivers for USB to Ethernet are available on the Pandora.

IIRC, the fon routers have problems with the Nokia internet tablets because those routers don't support wi-fi power savings mode very well, or at all. So the Nokias have to be configured to not use wi-fi power saving, meaning that the battery runs out in hours instead of days when on wi-fi.
