Ginrai touched on m-shield and nfc - things like this. a drm chip, networking or encryption hardware, or some kind of biometric reader required to establish network connections (or just access facebook).

Let me quote the OMAP 5 product bulletin:

And again, one thing is the cpu being capable, and another thing the Pyra being able to explode that capability...

Which sounds handy, provided that can be implemented.
 
I am wondering why people talk in the CPU-Board thread that there is no need for a new CPU when everybody knows, that the OMAP5 is no longer available? How many OMAP5 has ED left?

Indeed if ED runs out of SOCs before having a new CPU board Pyras will be unavailable for some time (months? years? who knows). I agree that it would be nice to know how many OMAP5s ED has, but I think this he already mentioned this somewhere. I just don't remember.

Side note. Maybe I don't remember this correctly bit I think 1Ghz pandora CPUs weren't provided by TI but for another reseller that had them lying around, can someone correct me? May something like this happen with Pyra?

obscene animations on the cartesian plane (these were big hits)

..are ones I remember

NOT megaman 1 in asm, that came later (and was not me sorry)

it was a really cool moment before such calculators were banned in exams. I got perfect scores in statistics and calculus with little helper programs. finished the exams in record time. like a proper cyborg/terminator.

My Idea was whit the Pandora that it could used in exams, because "Hey Teacher, there is Texas Instruments on this Chip, its just a Calculator"
But i ditnt go to exams, so it wouldnd make sense for me..
I only had a TI Calculator from 1985 or something in shool, this thing still works great.., but dont run any programms..
 
I don't know where you live but in a lot of places this is simply not true. Places where people have been taking proper precautions and adhering to sound medical advise have been able to get moving and going about business quite well.

It's not perfect but it's come a long way so far. I feel that blanket statements like yours above, while maybe not totally unfounded for some places perhaps, isn't reflective of all the efforts and progress that has been made, and ends up coming across as a tad FUDish, even if that wasn't your intention.

At least make it clear for what locale you're referring to as it's important to remember how wide the scope of this project is, having a truly international community.
It's true in Greece, where EvilDragon wants to visit, and in a couple days it'll even be true in Germany, where he lives.

This is based on my pandora port of Dante project. I haven't tried any optimisation, or tinkering with the settings. It feels pretty well despite the not so high FPS, as it's a slow paced game anyway.
The game is rendering at full 720p resolution, I can probably use an lower res FBO to give it a speed boot if needed, but I think it wont be needed anyway. Also, maybe dhewm3 (or simething like that) can work better? I haven't tried it.

I think that depends on the number of right wing nutjobs in the local population. But I recall there are plenty of them almost everywhere (apart perhaps for Denmark), so it's hard for me to predict where that might be more of a problem either in Greece, Germany or here.

What is that? I was thinking it was Portal, but that's a source engine game not an idtech game (and searching for 'dante project game' just gives me stuff about dante's comedy and devil may cry). I don't know any slow paced idtech games off the top of my head.

That's DooM III (it is slow paced, really not my favorite of the serie)

Yes, please try dhewm3 with bumpmap, specular, and shadow enabled if possible!
 
There are several other examples of technologie from old technologie, still made in 2020, like the Piaggio Ape (This 3Wheel Light Truck Thing)
or the Lada Niva which was a long time build whit the same technic from the 1970thes, just whit some changes on the Exhaust Cleaning and i think an Airbag..
Or the "VW Beatle " which came from the 1930thes, and was build in Mexico until the 1980thes if i remember correctly....

The Pyra CPU is also not for ever, it is a basic option so the Handheld want be a Expensive Door Stopper until a better CPU Board is made..
Then it maybe Technik from the 2016 in 2025 ^^
My favourite example is the Hewlett Packard pocket calculator HP12C. It is built and available since 1981. Their longest selling product: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP-12C
And my HP15C (bought ca. 1985) is still alive and in use every now and then... For example, I did some calculations for mechanics or resistor values for the Pyra with it...
So the Pyra does not only use some older but still good technology, it was designed by using really ancient technology :)
 
Less than 40 years? How come this is even considered ancient?
In my camera collection stuff from the 80s is among the newest crap i own.
