Hi. Is it possible to use my Pandora as an audio cast device, like a chromecast audio? I would like to connect it to my hifi and stream the audio with my phone using Plex.
Thanks

Yes, I think so, if your hifi has bluetooth reception (or you buy a blootooth dongle for it)

I got it to work in the past, but I've flashed a new firmware since, and it's all fuzzy how I did it (not sure which method I used from one of the many posts, there are so many people that posted how they did it). Hope this helps:

I see that @Null has played with it in the past. Maybe he can guide?

Not sure if you then can control the music using the wifi (next song, for example).
If it's TCP/IP, VLC can cast audio.
xbmc

As far as I read it, s/he's not asking for advice on streaming audio to a bluetooth enabled device (a hi-fi in his case). S/he's asking to use it like a chromecast, as in to leave the Pandora wired into the hifi, and to stream audio to it from their phone using something called plex. I don't know anything about plex personally so I can't really advise, but it seems to be a different situation as to using bluetooth headphones.

Exactly, not looking for Bluetooth solution, but thanks anyway @FBnil.
Levi, Plex is a dlna server.

Plex is a dlna server.
Debian ARM has a mini DLNA server, so a Pyra will work. (psst, buy a Pyra)

The Pandora has Plum, but thats the other way around: http://repo.openpandora.org/?page=detail&app=plum

Best path to go is to try to compile this on the Pandora:

This is sort of related (casting, DLNA) but not for the Pandora: I now have a Nebra AnyBeam and am trying to keep it as tidy/flexible/portable an installation as possible. For video (and audio) input, it has a full size HDMI port so I was looking at HDMI streaming/casting dongles.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something they know works well (without noticeable lag - including when playing games) but doesn’t require connection to the Wi-Fi hub, doesn’t cost as much as Nyrius (unless anyone knows of a really good deal), isn’t a privacy-abusing fiend like Amazon/Google and which I could hopefully use with a Pyra as well?

I presume it would be two dongles, one TX and one RX.

I bought this thing: http://saleforall.nl/contents/nl/p23290_Stream-_-cast-TV-dongle-TMC.html
link on AliExpress
And am quite happy with it. No lag (watched youtube from the phone, no noticeable lag on a recent phone), but you need line-of-sight, so stutters when somebody walks between TV and mobile phone streaming.
The image does not show that it also has a extra cable connected that has the Wifi Antenna AND you need to power it by USB. so it has: power -> USB -> TMC+Antenna -> HDMI (with internal HDMI audio)

For now I found nothing better than Chromecast... but this is for video/audio, things than can be cached, don't expect wireless stuff to work reliably for gaming, unless you want to just play point and click graphic adventures.
I'm not sure if it's necessary to "login" on Chromecast, I never had to do that, but require a local network to work.

Looking at the price for Nyrius I hope it is super optimized.

Looks like some “Anycast” dongles in the form of a Chromecast. How long have you been using it and does it also do Miracast/DLNA? Sounds like a bit of a mess though after all those interfaces!

It's not that messy. USB for power, antenna for reception and HDMI for output.
I'm trying to find a tutorial for Linux and a usb-wifi dongle on my server to use DNLA on wifi...

Yeah that’s the impression I gained from reviews online. But Chromecast doesn’t work with iDevices, DLNA etc., does it?

Fair!

@Phyla Could not find my wifi dongle, so used Windows. I streamed a videoclip in highres and it buffered 3 seconds at start (5MB buffered), and somewhere between a second. DNLA ((at least on my device) not recommended for gaming.

edit: that being said, the protocol Android uses to "cast" IS instantaneous.

It's integrated in my projector, I don't know what protocols can use, I just "transmit" from chrome-based browsers to it, and that's it, I had to do no configuration at all.
I found this interesting article speaking about this:

iDevices works directly only with AirPlay, but there are apps like AirParrot 2 that can do the protocol conversion and send the translated stream to a Chromecast device.

Sorry, posted that last link in the wrong thread!

I had meant to post a link to an open source project that’s an alternative to Chromecast etc. but compatible with just about any existing casting protocol. It’s currently an alpha release but beta shouldn’t be far off at all.

Trouble is, I can’t find the link atm but will post it as soon as I can.

Update: Found it again! It’s called NymphCast!

Not quite the perfect solution I was looking for as it relies on Wi-Fi but it’s pretty cool nonetheless.
