Best 'movie' Conversion/homage Games

They've already been mentioned, but I actually quite liked Alien 3 for the SNes (NOT Genesis) and always dug Batman Returns for the Snes as well (kickass sound). And as stated, the Snes "Super" STar Wars games were all great too.

True Lies was pretty good for all the systems.

Return of the King for the higher end systems, though that's reaching a bit far into the emulation-related aspect of things.

Little Nemo for the Nes was decent, although influenced by a cartoon, not a film.

I think Jurassic Park for the Genesis was pretty flash if I recall correctly.

Man, I know there's more, I just have to think about it. Anyone remember "The Wizard"? Man, that movie sucked/kicked all ass. They need to make a game out of that. Get disturbed little Jimmy to the magical video game championships.

I always enjoyed Batman for the megadrive/genesis from sunsoft. A much improved game over the ocean conversion on the a500/st/cpc/spec/c64.

Gremlins 2 and Goonies 2 for the Nes were actually decent games, but the former was tough as hell and the latter was just silly. Good music in both though.

The Robocop game for Nes was pretty fun, but the Terminator games (except for T2 arcade) sucked. Can't say anything about Robocop v Terminator, since I never played them, but I hear they kicked ass. And I guess technically Alien V Predator came BEFORE the movie (which sucked) but I liked the old Jaguar/3do version.

Noone think about the arcade versions?!

I love/d:

Aliens (arcade)
Robocop (arcade)
Batman (GB; ok, from comics)
Alien3 (Genesis, great soundtrack too!)
Alien Trilogy (PSX, great soundtrack too!)
DieHard Trilogy (PSX, great soundtrack too!)
XMen (arcade; ok, from comics)
Ghostbusters (arcade)
Street Fighter the Movie (AHAHAHAH, just joking... :p )

and others I don't remember.

I will open a thread about the best game soundtracks :)

VERY good games indeed are:

Bruce Lee (C64) (can you call this a movie conversion?)
Labyrinth (C64) (basically the predecessor of Maniac Mansion)
The Goonies (C64)

Speaking of arcades, the Genesis versions of Altered Beast and Legendary Axe were pretty good, especially for such early games.

i remember that altered beast blew me away when i first played it. but I recently palyed it and I hated it. THEY MOVE SO SLOW

Well there is a resident evil movie...and RE4 is my fav game of all-time...

but since that probably doesn't count at all I'd have to say I've enjoyed almost every spiderman game I've played, along with the older TMNT games

I would have to say that the "Lord of the Rings: Two Towers" and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" for Playstaion 2 where great movie to game conversions. I know that is not very retro.

Aladdin for Genesis is still good.

Alien on the Spectrum, C64........

It might have bad graphics but there have been few games to match the suppense with the tracker beeping away......

and then

the Alien appears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never been so scared playing a computer game :)

Yeah I agree, Alien on the Spectrum was really brilliant! Even with the Spectrums awful sound, it got really tense, especially when playing in a dark room at night :)

Then there was Dungeon Master on the Amiga, after playing it on the ST with rubbish sound, the amiga version was a revelation. Playing it in the dark, the suspense as you hear shuffling noises off to the left or right was really creepy! Worth buying the 1MB upgrade required to play it IMHO. No other game until Doom3 could provoke such tense feelings.

Yup, i totally agree with that, Dungeon Master was much better on the Amiga than on the ST, you could knock on the walls on the Amiga version to test for fake walls, on the ST version the pointer just flashed if you'd found a fake wall. Great game, Chaos Strikes back too. I'd love to see another one. :)

Bah, the amiga version was just 'easier'; it came out later, and they saw the great suffering we ST guys undertook :)

The sequal to DM came out on the PC years later.. though in the end its pretty much the same UI :) Look up "Dungeon Master 2: Skull Keep" or something like that. I never did bother to get far into it, but I should beet it one of these days.

Also, people have been making new dungeons for DM for years, as the save file formats and such have been opened up.

It wasn't just easier, the sound was subtly different, enough to improve it a great deal. Dont get me wrong, I loved ST DM; the Amiga version was one of my first purchases when I jumped off the good ship Atari and swam to the paradise isle of Commodore

By "easier" i assume you mean "they ironed out all the annoying bugs that made completing it a chore"?

Dungeon Master II The Legend Of Skullkeep was also released on the Amiga and the Mega-CD; no ST version though ;)

I dunno if the amiga version was easier, maybe DM. It took me ages to eventually beat chaos strikes back though, that was one difficult game. I played Dungeon Master 2: Skull Keep as well, it was unusual to be able to walk outside after getting used to walking inside dungeons all the time in the originals, I got right to the end but couldnt beat the final bad guy. It wasn't as good in my opinion. Captive was another good one, anybody remember the Knightmare game based off the captive engine? Loved that TV Show. :)
