Hi,
Where do I start with this handheld, the machine feels and looks cheap, batteries last about 1 hour, USB connection is absolutely useless. The gp2x appears in my disc drives section in device manager but nowhere to be seen in my computer, so I can't put anything on it. At the moment I have wasted all my money to look at a dull plastic case. This handheld was brought out far to early in my opinion and to me the gp32 is the daddy of handhelds.

Unless of course someone could come up with the reason why my gp2x is acting like it is!! GBAX.com have offered to refund my money but I would like to see this little black case actually working.

Also it doesn't work on a USB2.0 socket only on a USB1.1, weird, (of course when i say work i mean that in the loosest of terms possible )

Because youve bought the gp2x before the official release date. gph was getting hassled to much for an earlier release date so released versions with beta firmware to people who understand that this isnt the official release yet.

...as far as a remember reading it at least

I sort of know how you feel with regards to the systems finish. I feel that the case looks as cheap in the flesh as it did in the pics, but worse than that, the big letdown for me is the feel of the 4 action buttons, as they feel incredibly spongy. At least they take your mind off the stiff unresponsive stick!

As for everything else, i'm not worried at all as updated firmware will sort a lot of the initial teething troubles out. Just don't expect gp32 levels of build quality and finish.

So when is the "official" release date, im pretty sure it was around October the 26-28th. They really shouldnt have started selling these till the basic bugs were gone to avoid alot of disapointment.

The offical release is in January 2006. And no, they had to start selling it early with preorders because they couldn't afford to make it otherwise.

On the USB issue I wrote up a method cleaning up various USB driver problems, Windows does some very odd things with USB that can lead to all kinds of problems. If you give this a try it might get USB working correctly or at least better. (ie. the device recognized by your usb 2.0 port):

LOL I hate to say this, but my perceptions of the device have been almost the opposite. It certainly looks the money+some. Most of the initial "problems" seem to have gone away, or have/are been recified as we speak. The only think I haven't liked is the plastic covering of the USB/ext/headphones but then I hate that sort of thing anyway.

Hi,
Thanks for all the response regarding the gpx2, much appreciated, but can anyone tell me how to access the handheld like, I said previous when connected to the PC, the gpx2 shows as a Disc Drive in Device Manager under the name 'Linux File-Stor Gadget USB Device' and also a 'USB Mass Storage' device in the USB section of Device Manager. The problem is that it doesn't appear as a drive letter in MY COMPUTER, so I can't access it.

Please can someone assist me, I have downloaded the emulators and I would like to see them in action.

Cheers,
Unhappy Mario.

There are some threads about how to resolve the problems. Including the USB-problem. Just look for it...

Mario, you say it recognises the gp2x as a drive but it doesnt appear in My Computer ?
Perhaps its something as simple as windows not allocating a drive letter to it. That can be rectified by Managing Disk Resources (Right Click My Computer) and adding a drive letter...

I myself actually had to run USB Monitor
from (http://www.hhdsoftware.com/download.html) to get my gp2x recognised !

Mario64, read the threads in this forum, there are solutions for all of your problems.

Best solution (which you should do anyway) is to get a Card Reader. They are ridiculously cheap nowadays (less than $10 here!).

And use good quality 2500+mAh batteries to increase the battery time.

Try right clicking My Computer and select manage...
Then select disk management and see if it is in there. If it is right click on it ans select Change Drive Letters and Paths and set it to an unused letter.

Some machines have unused letters disabled so it wont automaticaly give one.

Worth a try m8 :)

That happens if the SD-Card is not formatted in FAT32.
It works with the gp2x and with a card reader, but not when you connect the gp2x via USB.

Either format the card with a card reader in FAT32 format or use the Managing Disk Ressources and the USB gp2x connection and format it with FAT32.
