Psx Running On The Gp2x

Jesus DaveC. Just quit it.

No ones expecting full speed. The last few pages have been about getting some game playable. No ones being saying anything about fullspeed.

And some people don't care about sound. Don't push your "nessesity" for sound on us.

And Snes is fully playalbe without sound.

The console's been out a week, man. And you expect fullspeed yesterday.

It just seems you don't want emus released till they're full speed.

And I have not seen one post of yours congratulating the truely amazing progress and effort of the devs.

It's people like you that push away people from deving.

On the other hand it's true some people can overestimate and put hopes up to highly, and you're just trying to prevent disapointment, but lay off the hyper negitivity.

You keep saying you don't understand all the excitement over this - I think one thing you forget is that NOBODY expected even this level of PSX emulation this year. Here it is, many of us don't even have our units yet, and there's already an emulator we weren't expecting untill middle of next year at best. When someone comes along and blows away everyone's expectations, you can expect a massive, positive response.

I expect it fullspeed yesterday? You can't read very well I take it? I actually said the opposite which is that it won't be fullspeed ever. You call it negativity, but it is just reality. Just like saying PS2 will never be fullspeed on the GP2X. Is that just unfounded negativity too? Or is it reality?

I have made many posts congratulating devs, even donated to them. It was on the GP32 and for playable emus and high quality homebrew, something I would use.

I was speaking in general terms. Not PSX specificly.

I genuniely believe you love the console but, I just think alot of your posts are off putting.

DaveC why are you even involved in this community if all you are going to do is discourage attempts to bring the most out of this machine? Seriously, there's a big difference between 'being a realist' and 'being a life-sucking drag' guess which you are?

After going on for ages how PSX emulation will 'never be possible' on this unit, as soon as it appears you have no words of congratulations or eating crow it's simply 'it'll never be playable' gawd go drink your own poison somewhere else and let the dreamers dream and the skilled programers try to make those dreams reality.

You never know what you'll achieve unless you try, instead of hiding in a hole saying 'cant be done'. If everyone had that attitude, we'd still be cracking our neighboring tribe's skulls with sticks and bones.

I don't think this emulator will ever run full speed but it is a good way to test the limits of the gp2x :)
I say well done.
I think so to, but it WILL get better and alot of games WILL become playable (full speed? not likely). Keep up the awsome work

Hi All,

As you may know, I ported PSX to the Zodiac. I now have that emu running on the GP2X. It's in a very early stage so many games don't work and if they do they run sort of slow. I'll release it soon. :)

Things that will help me the most would be code for a good scaler as mine doesn't work well. Also, I have no idea how to do a menu system for picking games. If you can help let me know.

Nice work!!!

One question though: you ported what kind of ps1 emulator? And how fast is that one running on the system it was made for?

DaveC- the biggest flaw of your argument is that there are no kids that expect 30fps on the GP2X.

Most people know this will probably not occur. But, the fact you fail to understand is that not everybody is as anal as you and some of us can imagine enjoying games such as FFT at playable speeds.

There was no need to come into this thread with your usual bullshit as nobody here was expecting all games at 30fps with sound.

I don't care if you don't like playing choppy games. And you really don't need to hijack every thread with your pessimism.

I guess we have to wait and see how the dualcore advantage turns out to be... and of course if there is any coder out there that can handle a custom dualcore build of that emulator. Chances are low, however, it might be possible some time...

-and after all we can also hope for the HH Os to get a clockspeed of 266mhz without any harm to the cpus...

Well, just a few weeks ago we were saying chances were low for any sort of PSX emulation in the future. Now look. Next up, SDIO!

What you are failing to see here is that there are lots of devs, and they each want to do their own thing. Being a dev myself, I have no interest in emulation development whatsoever, but playing them is fun.

So, if zodttd wants to make a PSX emulator, let him. Other devs can work on other emulators.
Agreed. Devs will make what they want. The challenge of making something impossible possible. I mean look at the Dreamcast and how far it has come especially with neo geo emulation. Latest news has it that the emu can now load roms which was thought of being impossible. Who knows what tricks the GP2X can pull off.

I say regardless of what's impossible, if it keeps the devs doing what they love to do, I'm all for it.

I never said such things :)

Of course it's possible, if the Zodiac can run it with the exact same cpu, then why shouldn't the gp2x run it too ;)

I didn't mean you in particular, but the community in general. :)

I was just thinking too...

Zodttd said he hadn't even implimented an auto frame skip yet...So next release we may get a nice surprise...

However... Frameskip can't solve every speed problems and I fear there is more up to it than a high frameskip to get ps1 games running in realtime :/

Well just give it time, the gp2x isn't even out yet(officially) and there is allready a ps1 emulator!

It might make it a bit more playable though.

First of all, thanks for your support. I respect DaveC's opinion and don't want to turn this thread in a flame war. I am going to continue my projects because they're fun for me and I hope for you guys as well. :)

As far as optimizations go, HLE isn't currently enabled as it is currently too buggy. There is also a possibility of a R300A to ARM dynarec. Also thanks for the code for hardware scaling. Oh Oh, and cool logo!

Just a note, if the screen turns black after green it means the game loaded. If it stays black for over two minutes either the game won't work or it's in the wrong format. If the screen stays green, the file name might be named wrong or the game won't work at all currently.

I think I speak on behalf of the forum when I say that we are truely thankful for your efforts and hope you continue your amazing, fantastic, wonderful work!
