Gngeo2x 0.6.9 *update*

ok i need some help please. I typed "dumpgfx.exe mslugx.exe" into the command line without the quotes. To make it easy i put everything in the windows folder. i pressed enter and a black window flashed and nothing else happened. is there something i'm missing? obviously i missed a step to get a .gfx file but i dont know what.

edit: nevermind. i just right clicked the rom and selected to open it with dumpgfx.exe

From the command line, it should have been "dumpgfx.exe mslugx.zip
It's tidy that it works with 'open with' though.

Garou : Mark of the wolves? :)

Yep, it's true and it run's a respectable 56fps without sound. Due to ram running out only a few voice samples remain with sound enabled and the frame rate takes a hit so best to run without sound enabled. That is until someone does the first ram upgrade for the GP2X!! :P

Or if we can use the second processor for sound.

Just curious if anyone has tried this on a faster speed SD card just to see any difference.

I am pretty sure that the lack of full sound is due to the lack of available ram, even using the grapchics dump for streaming. I think that it is running short and as a result not all the sound files are loaded/used.

I agree that optimisation will improve the frame rate of games with sound enabled but I don't think anything can be done about the really big games using too much ram.

Pepone perhaps you could enlighten us?

Anybody have any tips on how to compile dumpgfx from source on OS X 10.3.9? The other version listed in the thread for 10.4.4 doesn't give me any joy.

how did you lot get Metal Slug 3 to work?

I tried the set from the Neo-Geo set, the one from the Mame set, everytime the dumpgfx_win util tells me it couldn't open the zip

Look for mslug3nd and use the decrypted graphic roms from that set. Just rename them but I'll tell you that the game freezes after about 5-10 seconds so it's not playable. You have to look carefully at how the roms are named. Some have an "_" or "-" and they either end in *.bin or *.rom. Just take a look at romrc and you'll see how to rename the files.

Anybody noticed that when you press the left shoulder button you can change the dip switches for the game. I can't say I noticed this option before. First thing I did was enable blood in Metal Slug, much more fun now! Now to change the difficulty so it's even harder!

L shoulder = test switch on, go to setting up the soft dip
X confirm choice, increase number
B decrease number
A go back

Customize any title you want.

I would post this on the wiki but it's late and I need to sleep. Apologies to anyone who knew about this, you need to share the knowledge. ;)

It's in the readme. :D The good thing is the settings are saved and has an effect for all games.

Pepone:

I got the dumpgfx utility to compile on OS X 10.3.9, but I have absolutely *no* graphics at all. It seems like I'm missing a graphic layer though, because I can see the "MAX 330 MEGA" part of the splash screen, and I can see how many credits I have. In Waku Waku 7, I can see the life bars, but that's it. Any ideas?

Can't get the gfx dumps to work for me -- for example here's my Blazing Star script:

Code:
#/bin/sh
cd /mnt/sd/gngeo
exec /mnt/sd/gngeo/gngeo.gpe /mnt/sd/gngeo/roms/blazstar.zip

In the gngeo/roms directory I have BOTH blazstar.zip and blazstar.gfx, when I run the script I get the out of memmory error.

You know, the same thing was happening to me, then I started getting "no valid romset". I moved only my roms to /mnt/sd/roms/neogeomvs and left the .gfx files in /mnt/sd/gngeo/roms and it worked out.

I don't know what that was about.

Hmm still no joy.

I move the rom to /roms/neogeo/blazstar.zip and updated the script:

Code:
#/bin/sh
cd /mnt/sd/gngeo
exec /mnt/sd/gngeo/gngeo.gpe /mnt/sd/roms/neogeo/blazstar.zip

The gfx file is in /mnt/sd/gngeo/roms/blazstar.gfx, and I still just get the out of memmory error when I run the script. :( All the same this emu has got me really excited, great work - even if I can't get it to work for me :)

It might be your romset. I know I got those out of memory errors when my graphics roms were big. You can tell by the size of your .gfx file. Is it 33MB? I know for sure blazstar works.

Also, I got KOF2003 to load up but with graphical glitches and the game will freeze after you insert coin or a few seconds.

got it -- I ended up just starting over again -- same rom and everything but this time it worked... wierd. I blame FAT....

Hi,

I have compiled the dumpgfx utility under cygwin which should allow windows users to use it.

[edit] urk, I should have read the whole thread first, didn't see that it had already been done.. my bad.

The only problem is that I have no hosting available.
Anyone have a site I can u/l to?
Thanks
