i am busy learning the dark art of penetration testing and was thinking, it woud be awesome if i could run backtrack linux on a pandora. i know there is a arm version available just not sure if it'll run on the pandy.

It probably would, but not right out of the box; someone will have to package it up and try to slide in all the pandora-related drivers/apps (ie: just like with debian ports, gentoo, arch, and so forth)

jeff

I don't have a spare SD to try on, but try something like this:

Get ext2 formatted SD card with >5GB free

Extract BT5-GNOME-ARM.7z contents onto SD

Modify bootbt file and change references to /sdcard

export kit=/sdcard/BT5

to something like

export kit=/media/mmcblk0p1/BT5

run sudo sh bootbt to chroot into bt5

then run these commands

export USER=root

vncpasswd (to set password)

tightvncserver -geometry 800x480

netstat -ant to see what port to connect to vnc on

then vncviewer localhost 5901 (or whatever port it's listening on) to open the GUI

I've haven't done this for a while so it's probably not quite right. GUI is a bit slow, so you may want to skip that part.

Thx. I tried that, but no startup:

I'm a little confused on what your having trouble with.. getting vncviewer running or just getting into the gui..

looks like you don't have the vncviewer package installed..

As for getting into the gui have you just tried typing: startx

Is backtrack's penetration testing something you need? if you just want an alternative to Angstrom, Slackware may be a better match.

I don't have vncviewer installed, I didn't try "apt-get install" because I read there is a problem with the repo and angstrom. So I don't know where to get it,

I want Pentesting, I run it actually in vmware.

But that's for Angstrom not Backtrack Linux.. Backtrack is a completely different Linux Distribution..

I don't know what you mean. I know Backtrack is a own distro and I want to run the ARM build on the pandora.

Right, but why would an apt-get install in backtrack cause issues in Angstrom?

Absolutely no Idea :D

So I try it...

EDIT:

root@pandora:~/.vnc# apt-get install vncviewer

Reading package lists... Done

Building dependency tree

Reading state information... Done

Package vncviewer is not available, but is referred to by another package.

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or

is only available from another source

E: Package vncviewer has no installation candidate

Dude,

You run the chroot on pandora. Create and isolated file system. Done.

Next, download a VNC client on the HOST system (pandora).

Find bak tracks VNC config file and make sure it's set right.

Open VNC on pandora, type address ad port.

127.0.0.0 (or similar) and port: xxxx (4 digit).

Just look for guides on how to boot BT5 or Ubuntu on Android, use the same principle for VNC for pandora.
