Hi,

If they ever release the Pandora and someone sends me one there could be a port for it.

Update! We (Bob and I) exchanged some emails, and I am going on a limb here and saying Bobsgame is very likely to hit the Pandora (which is good, 'cause I bet if he left it to the publishers, I would have forgotten about the game before its released)

...I'll start working on this as soon as I begin porting to other platforms. I'm making sure the publisher [for the Nintendo DS] will agree to allow this. :)

Sweet!

Wow, no idea how i missed this thread, I had mentioned this in a couple of threads, but my post seemed to be overlooked.
Anyway, I had a asked the maker of Colors! DS about making a port for the Pandora, and they seemed to show interest, here is their reply

Hey Bitz,

No worries. Any suggestions are appreciated and that's a big part of what the forums are for.

We talk about new potential platforms all the time for Colors!. As I'm sure you'll agree, there is a potential for a great painting-program on almost every new platform that comes out. Personally, I'd like to see Colors! on all of those, but obviously we need to pick the ones we believe most in. Homebrew-DS was is ideal in many ways since we could get pressure-sensitivity out of it, and iPhone was chosen because it has a huge install-base and the App Store.

That being said, I've also peeked at Pandora. It looks like a great platform and I'd love to see Colors! on it. The downside is that there isn't a very big install-base on it, so I don't see myself getting one just yet. Of course, if anyone would want to do the porting, they should definitly contact me.

I know I am not the only one interested, as other people have brought this up, and I am not a developer, so I am only trying to be a liaison between the Pandora community and the Colors! community. If anyone is interested please head over to the collectingsmiles.com homepage and contact Jen.

+1 for colors. getting homebrew ds apps and stuff ported could draw alot of attention.

just remember that every commercial game on the pandora is another chance for money owning consumers to get it

Hey Guys,

i've just got a reply from the guys that do the Phun sandbox > http://www.phunland.com/wiki/Home

QUOTE
Hi Phun Developers,

Firstly, congratulations on an amazing and diverse sandbox (game ?).
Secondly, you may (or may not, I'm not sure) have heard of a new system shortly coming out, called the Pandora. More details can be found at OpenPandora.org, specifications and details can be found there, and there are two forums for it, http://forum.openpandora.org/ and http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?showforum=61
The first batch is going to be around 4000 consoles, with the second batch around march next year, I'm not a developer or in any way affiliated with the makers of this system (but I have pre-ordered one), but I'd like to know if there was any possibility of a port of Phun onto the Pandora at all ?
I appreciate that you guys are probably really busy, and any reply would be eagerly awaited.

Best regards and all the best for the future

and their reply~

Hi,
Thanks, we will look into this. Pandora is interesting because it has alot of computing performance compared to many competing platforms - and Phun does indeed need alot of compute power.
Best,

One game I'd really like to see ported to the pandora is Rumble Box. It would definitely have to be made less intensive, but the chances of a port could be pretty high seeing as its a game created by two students. Even if they aren't interested in porting it themselves, they might agree to give a pandora dev the source code. They have their contact info up (I would contact them, but I don't really know what to say). It would be so fun to play this with the pandora's controls.

Rumble Box is a fast paced 3D action beat-em-up with a unique premise:
all of the characters are made of simple objects which stay around
in the level even after the character is defeated. The objects pile up,
changing the gameplay landscape and altering your combat tactics.
The game takes place inside a giant box, and the ultimate goal
of the game is to pile up enough defeated enemies to get out of the box.

YAY! I left them a message on their messageboard, but no one replied. I just wish I had the programming chops to take them up on the offer. I really think this would be an excellent launch title for the Pandora. PLUS, perhaps Overgrowth would be possible too (with the graphics heavily toned down...)

Key thing here is that Lugaru has already been ported to X86 by Ryan Gordon (icculus...)- to be able to run in a simlar profile to the Pandora. All one probably would have to do is hand Ryan a Pandora and get their signoff or get them to allow me to do the subsequent work for them (I'd started a discussion w/them but Ryan'd gotten in there before me... ;) ) after we get the firmware gelled and get ES 1.1/2.0 support from TI & ImgTec in a manner that can be used on the Pandora.

Not sure if this is open or closed source but anyone been following the progress of Smokin' Guns? (Originally Western Quake). I stumbled upon this recently, they are now testing a stand alone version with a remake of the Quake engine :)

I just started a request to port World of goo to pandora. Look here: http://2dboy.com

May be someone of you want to support my request in their forum.

WoG seems to be the next big thing after crayon and phun, and it seems that the programmers/publishers develop in the same spirit as our beloved pandora developers, and 16EUR for a game like this is a bargain as the pandora is for 249EUR.

There's a thread for closed source port requests/wishes here: [edit] threads merged, no point linking to here. ;)

You're not the first one to contact them. I haven't played it yet, but it looks great.

Yes, I've left several comments on their blog and tried to write them an email. I also emailed ED about their presense on the GC in Leipzig. Neither 2D-Boy nor ED responded. Since that is pretty untypical for both and I'm somewhat open to speculations, I think WorldOfGoo will be the secret startup-title for Pandora :D

haha, good lesson here. DON'T keep shifting the release date (see sig) without making the reasoning public and easily seen. you'll lose supporters, obviously preorderers would be skeptical too (forget that it was a rapid sellout, the power of the internet got the message out and there were only a few thousand orders)

not to diss the pandora, but since ive been promised this thing since March with still 5+ weeks to go, i'm getting tired of my friends with their hacked PSPs taunting me with "we have this great advantage, our devices EXIST!". the gp2x is seriously dated. i would've bought something else acceptable as a multi-functional device if i'd known we'd be waiting so long.

the gp2x isn't that bad. in fact, id say it can still hold its own to the psp.

Heh... They have to hack theirs up- and there's no support for them. Moreover, their devices don't have the chops that the Pandora HAS. Yes, I said that right. HAS. It really DOES exist- I've had one of the MK0 boards in my hand and did a bit of tinkering with it. You just can't lay your hands on one just yet. ;) Soon, though... :D

Unfortunately, there's NOTHING in the multi-functional class of devices that fits into the performance profile of the Pandora. Not Nokia. Not Sony. Not Asus. Each and every thing has design tradeoffs in performance, power consumption, size, or combinations thereof. I'd love to see what you'd have come up with. :D
