D1x-rebirth (gp2x Version)

Yay, FINALLY I'll get to play this awesome classic... I've been waiting for a handheld port for years. :)
You need the original game to run it, right?

Well, I went through my old CDs and found a backup from 1996 (also included my GCSE coursework!) that had My Descent files on. Put the CD in to my Windows XP machine and it ran perfectly from the old executable, but really fast! Just now to figure out if I can get v1.0 files to patch and work, then wait..

Try this patch:

then you can also try D1X-Rebirth for PC :)

That's what I'm doing, thanks for the links. While you're here, is there any use for the PSX version of Descent? I might have that somewhere..

I'm really looking forward to this release, thanks zico!

zico, I have seen both original descent code and dxx-rebirth one and both texture mapper seem a bit overhead for gp2x, either th eones ussing float or interger divisions... did u rewrote that part for gp2x?

Unai.

Yeah the GP2X version uses a new Texture mapper. It's not that accurate but fast enough so the GP2X can manage it. But still it would be great if I could optimize it to get more performance without overclocking.

Glad to hear great news about another 3D oldie ported on our GP2X :) Is there any enhancements compared to the original Descent?

There is info that says Descent Maximum can be extracted from the PSX disk and made into a D2x .hog file and will play.

See here: http://www.descentbb.net/viewtopic.php?t=11178

and here: http://www.descentbb.net/viewtopic.php?t=6557

the http://www.dxx-rebirth.de/ has a forum with some info too.

I think just the levels are supported, but *Cough*abandonware*Cough* sites are around, and ebay should have some for sale.

Currently we support the default levelset provided with Descent1.

To play Addon Missions is in supported in general and dere will be a script in the future to play PSX version levels but currently Descent has no case-insensitive filehandling which makes problems with several levels (see level-patcher on dxx-rebirth site).
This will hopefully solved in the next versions.
