My friend recently got a GP2x, and he asked me for his help. First he messed up the skin on his main screen, so I reflashed the firmware to the one he already had version 3.0 and I see alot of support for older versions of firmware on here. Is there any special thing I need to do to downgrade, or can I just use older firmwares using the normal upgrade meathod? Is there anything that is "broken" on the 3.0 firmware, or any reasons to downgrade to 2.1.1 or something else?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Just do this and all should be well:

• Install the 2.0 FW (preferably on a FAT32-formatted SD card)
• While holding start & select, turn on the '2X
• Let the FW install do its thing
• Repeat for FW 2.1.1
• Install Gmenu2X and forget about GPH's crappy front-end

Thanks, got help from members in the irc channel, but thanks. I am currently running version 2.1, looks good.

I'm going to check out gmenu2x.

You need to find gmenu2x in the archive. Just toss it on the SD like you would any other app and then launch it. Alternatively (and most of us do it this way, I believe), you can put the autorun file on your NAND, thus making the app start with the GP2X. I recommend that method.

It needs to be in your root directory. Then the AUTOSTART will boot when turned on.
