Oh come one, stop this discussion. You're giving the new device a bad name!

Oh, wait...
+1

Pyra, Miriad, Mirya, Pyriad... all bad names for a Pandora successor. How about we call it Pandora 2, since most of the world will notice it looks like an updated and slightly larger Pandora 1. Put an end to complicating what's obvious: the next handheld is an improved version of the older one. No real need to discard an established brand name for a jumbled approximation.

I know why ED ditnt want tho name his new Device "Openpandora 2", so, whe needs to find a new Name for the succesor,

in my home use, i would call the device maybe "pandora2,", because its the sucessor of my pandora1.. , and i think a lot peaply would this do too,

but to separate it from the Pandora, whill be realy needfull, because the misery of Craigix Company..

The Dragonbox Pyra will be a device, which use the same battery, and came from the same guys as the Openpandora, but isnt a Pandora.. , this would be a bit strange..

Pyra (Pyndora), is close enought to pandora, but diverent..)..

EDIT:
Also a diverent Name is good, to find sponsors, in your familie (parents, grandparents), because they cant say "you wants a pandora 2??? , no you have allready a Pandora 1, you ditnt need a Pandora 2".. ,

whit pyra you can say its diverent..

DragonBox is the brand/company.

Everyone stop goading him on. If this topic gets too long with pointless discussion, EvilDragon will be less likely to notice the useful discussion. (things such as the mentions of a pattern for future devices and the pronunciation problem for the current spelling)
Why? did I ask you something? I don't talk to you, you already told me  that Dragon box is the brand/company, I told you that I'm not sure because se company is OpenPandora Gmhb and ED said "I want it to be called the DragonBox..." So stfu please, I just answer to people who don't understand what I mean (like you) so if you don't say shit I'll not answer to you. Now you have to apply your "Everyone stop goading him".

Are you intellectually challenged or do you do that just to troll?

Dragonbox IS an existing company owned by ED, OpenPandora GmbH won't be involved into making Pyra or Miriad, it's DragonBox that'll produce it.

So please, either stop trolling or just shut up until you understand what's written in this topic, thanks.
You wrote:

"KONTAKTIEREN SIE UNS
OpenPandora GmbH"  So Dragonbox is a company.
Who is intellectually challenged?? Give me a PROOF that Dragonbox is company, I just said MY opinion IF Dragonbox isn't a company so please buy you a brain.

2 moderators who only read half!

I was just saying that "DragonBox" isn't a company/brand because ED didn't say it is. :)
That's something funny to say from someone that have shown serious reading disorder (not even getting the thread initial post...)
Did you read the full conversation before commenting like a sheep?

As for the "DragonBox" (or "DB") prefix - it's just like the "GPH" in "GPH Wiz" or "GPH Caanoo". It will be the Pyra, made by DragonBox GmbH. If you want to call it "a DragonBox", you can do that - just like you can call a Macintosh "an Apple", a Wii "a Nintendo" or a Latitude D830 "a Dell". But it would still be the company name, not the name of the specific device. So it would be a DragonBox, more specifically, the Pyra.

It makes no sense to me to use "DragonBox" also as the name of the specific device (that just adds confusion and would make the full name "DragonBox DragonBox") or to reverse the order of the names and say "Pyra DragonBox".
Thanks for understanding what I mean before answer.

If it is that way no complaints, as I said it was just IN CASE "DragonBox" is include in the name. I just wanted people to understand my position and have an official notice about what is DragonBox. I guess you are telling the truth as staff member despite ED said "I want it to be called the DragonBox...".

Pie Ruh for me as far as pronunciation goes.

Good to see that miriad doesn't sound too good to a lot of other Pandorians as well. Deliberately misspelled product names always sound / look a bit naff to me.
Pyra is also a deliberately misspelled name.  I also wish we could use something new though.

Not sure if this is too late, but I'd pronounce is pie-ra and I like how that sounds,

How about we call it Pandora 2
ED doesn't want to call it a Pandora 2, he wants to distance himself from it as much as possible while still acknowledging where it came from.
I'm not understanding the "acknowledging where it came from" part in your statement, but I'm aware he doesn't want to call it Pandora 2. Renaming it something entirely different disinherits the device from it's namesake for no gain I can fathom. It might as well be called jabberwocky or even snicklefritz. Both have as much meaning as what we've deteriorated to. Craig and the problems the first handheld had shouldn't tarnish the name Pandora to this point of abandoning the legacy that was well earned by everyone else involved here who did what was right and kept the community together. It should be a label to not be ashamed of, but instead to be proud of.

Except it's not a rename.  It's a new name, for a new device made by a new team.

Keep in mind that the Pandora was Craig's project.   Craig was also planning a Pandora 2 project. (though that seems extremely unlikely to proceed any further at this point)

While ED's device is being designed to be the successor to the Pandora, it's a completely different project to Craig's Pandora 2 so needs a different name.

You're right it's a brand new name for a device which will look and function nearly exactly like the first and be developed and financed(through OP community investors) by most of the original P1 team members sans one. A project completely different in any form it is not, and I agree with you it's highly suspect Craig will return to the scene after what's transpired.

It is a shame though to lose something proven valuable and enduring for something nonsensical like "Pyra", but if fear must have it's day then I suggest extra time to come up with a more worthy name than the unintelligible choices we're left with. To start, Retrodora or Retrotron perhaps have at least some semblance of meaning for the product being represented.

/me notices that the relative popularities of the two options seem to been more stable with respect to number of votes cast that the previous poll....

Would this be a good point to remind people of the Pyrrha, daughter of Pandora link?

Very true and we can carry the connection onward by calling the successor's successor Protogeneia, Pandora II and Thyia, or better known as the daughters of Pyrrha. :)

By the way, Retrodora and Retrotron return a total of 4 and 16,600 google search results, respectively.

Only if you also remind them that Pyrrha is not pronounced "Pie rah".

If only it were still open for name suggestions. I just realized that RetCon would make an awesome name for the console. (Retro Console) Not to mention, the meaning of the word retcon being "retroactive continuity" which could "rewrite" all the consoles to exist at the same time on the device. But alas, I doubt any suggestion now other than Pyra or Miriad will have any chance of being accepted. Hence why I am trying to get EvilDragon to change the spelling of Pyra. (I wouldn't give a damn about the spelling of an option that I knew wouldn't win)

No like 'Pyra' Why ED? Why?
Why not?

The biggest "problems" with 'Pyra' that we have identified so far are 1) it means "potato" in one regional dialect of Polish, and 2) its first syllable can be pronounced like a type of pastry in English.

If those are the worst problems, then I think I can live with that :)

If the only connection to the device that the name Pyra has is that the daughter of Pandora was called Pyrrha, then I can't think of any reason to use Pyra instead of Pyrrha, since Pandora was simply Pandora.  I don't like trying to prefer either of those names though.  I wish I had tried to sweet talk in Myridon sooner.
