<3 ED updated and brought in lots of extensions. Uploads work, new and better everything. Yaaay

Make use of the feedback tool everyone, its really handy. The more constructive feedback, the easier it is to fix.

Bug report for pandorawiki.org as of today:

References with links do not work. They are rendered in raw markup code instead, i.e.:

<ref name="Example"> [http://example.com Example], a site filled with sample data.</ref>
also the extended format fails, i.e.:

Code:
<ref name="Example">{{cite web|url=http://example.com |title=Example |date=2013-10-23 |accessdate=2013-10-24}} a site filled with sample data.</ref>

The first one works though. Can you point to the documentation of the second?

http://pandorawiki.org/Getting_started_with_Pandora_development

http://pandorawiki.org/Development_tutorials

http://pandorawiki.org/Development_Tools

These three pages do exactly the same, in not a very good way, in turn cluttering up our default approach, which is to be able to find things in the development section. proposing redirecting them into one, and keeping whats important.

I like "general game development" from the tutorials. I like the sections on getting started. I dont like anything about tools except "post mortem" which doesnt belong there.

How about just calling it "Development".

http://pandorawiki.org/PND_Cookbook is also on the chopping block, need to put that in various sections that exist already.

http://pandorawiki.org/PND_management_workflow

http://pandorawiki.org/Repo_delta_transfers

These seem to have no value anymore.

http://pandorawiki.org/New_PND_format

This i dont know about, any news?

I'd say the last three are proposals. You could arguably associate them with .next, if such a category exists, but I don't know if any of them have actually got any buy-in in that context. Certainly don't see anything happening for SuperZaxxon though.

The PND cookbook belongs to a set of pages which document PNDs, making them, using them and the PXML format. It needs to be considered in that context.

Agreed about the development pages. These need to be brought together and merged somehow, probably with other information already on the wiki. Would be nice if we could get some agreement on the resultant structure before committing it to the wiki history though, and not get another page with headers and footers dotted throughout the page - that's no significant improvement over the status quo.

Suggested these for inclusion

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Html5mediator

Needed for video.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_Language_Extension_Bundle

Needed for doing translations in a sane manner.

Then i came upon the idea of seeing what was out there. Trawled through the extensions for mediawiki. The value of which is nobody has to do that in a while.

These are the ones that survived three sortings:

Starting with the best ones.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:pageEval

Been wanting something like this, allows inclusion of duplicated info rather than duplicate it or just plainlink it.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Invision_Power_Board_Authentication

This could be really nice, its not a tie-in. But there are lots of spam users on the boards, so that needs to stop first.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Article_Highlight

very nice by the looks of it, could be used for grouping together items sequentially instead of relying on horisontal spanning for connection in categories.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:WikiBhasha www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Open_Web_Analytics

statistics is always nice

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ExternalLinks www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:OpenID

Login with openID, could be good.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Maps

Would be nice to re-implement the google maps one with this. Less evil by using openlayers data, works hopefully better.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:IRC_Chat

For even less threshold of getting into contact. Currently relying on freenode webchat link.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Special404

For all the links that are broken, would be nice to link to the main page, and request to what linked where so that things can be fixed.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:VisualEditor www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:GitHub

Dont really know what this is, since the readme is broken, but the development is on github, some synergy there would be nice.

Not installed yet, I need to check whether this works when wiki and boards are on different domains.

Not installed yet, as it has some cloud-based downloadlink (and I usually download and install using wget directly on my server).

Not installed, don't want to track users.

Don't want uncontrollable external logins, so not installed.

Very old plugin where the installation even patches some MediaWiki files... too risky to install.

Seems like this needs a server to be installed... so I didn't install it yet.

I've some problems with the current "catch phrases", maybe because I'm not a native english speaker/reader.

"Pocket computer with real gaming controls.

Open platform : you choose how you use it.

No restrictions : use, make and publish softwares.

Your imagination is the limit."

Something like this seems less cryptic to me than "no restriction but freedom" etc…

Having all those menus at the bottom of the page seems a bit overwhelming for people that don't know Pandora, I think the "Introduction" section should be more visible instead of being "lost" in the rest.

I also think that many french speaking people are not that fluent in english and would like some informations in their native language. Long ago we had some (partial) translations of the wiki's content, content that seems to be completely lost…

New translations are abound. The intro text can be changed there. Havent yet figured out how translating works though.

See http://boards.openpandora.org/topic/14536-we-have-a-new-wiki-main-page/page-3#entry286358/URL] for whats going on with the front page.

and http://boards.openpandora.org/topic/14765-attn-ed-official-website/page-2#entry286287 for an explanation. Basically the apparent lack of a comma isnt a dealbreaker, but the extra information that can be conveyed is a bonus.

It also shouldn't be a cliché, which is very easy to run into following guidelines of what other people do.

Had a go at translating, http://pandorawiki.org/Android/nb which is really useful for getting to terms with what it actually says and following the trail of thought. Many feedbacks submitted.

Proposing moving

http://pandorawiki.org/Kernel_build_instructions

http://pandorawiki.org/Kernel_interface

http://pandorawiki.org/Reporting_bugs

to Ångstrom (which i have cleaned up a bit) since they are specific to that OS. Instead of having "where in this category where i would expect to find it" it could be "where in the specific page that i know is in that section is it"

Already moved Build instructions over.

Right now the info is reimplemented scantly, wholly, differently, and those pages also contain stuff that belong elsewhere.

Found out how to delete a page properly, first you make a redirect, save, then delete. The deletion field will have full explanation of redirect and contributors are listed, no need to do it manually! :) ))

Hmm, yes to reporting bugs, but I'd suggest the kernel build instructions and interface are only something of interest to a small subset of OS developers, perhaps a half dozen people at most, whereas stuff about upgrading, reinstalling, installing to SD should be understandable and usable by many times that number of people.

I think the section on using the GUI updater should be aligned with the boot setup page or even put over there wholesale. It's subsection about updating superzaxxon should still remain on the Angstrom page though, in my opinion.

Although, in my opinion we shouldn't call the Pandora OS Angstrom any more. As I said in my recent feedback, it has diverged from that codebase somewhat over the years, and has always had extra functionality not in the core Angstrom anyway. I'm open to suggestions on what the page should be called though. 'Pandora OS' or 'Default OS' maybe?

Boot instructions are common to every OS, need more uBoot info there. The Ångstråom speciality pages would be moved to the end of that page, and its quite advanced already as you scroll down. As such, the GUI updater is only native to the Ångström OS. What that should be called i dont really know. Except for it cant be "firmware" or a name that changes, like "hotfix" "yars revenge" or similar. Pandora OS doesnt give it equal opportunity with the rest. I propose colour coding all the OS-es with one colour to group them.

I will probably register now/soon, seeing as have my Pandora I'll be delving into the Wiki pages a lot more.

I just noticed this one link still referencing the old boards at gp32x, which I guess should link to here instead.

USB reference page, here:

http://pandorawiki.org/USB_reference

Right up top where the heading is 'Readme First!'

Wonder if there are a lot of links on pages still aimed at gp32x?

Is there a way to search the entire wiki which will scan <a> tags too? - Or just a process of updating them as you come across them.

Oh no, not another faq. With fire it must be killed. Hadnt looked at that usb site much. I think it needs a matrix of what can be plugged into what and if its powered or not.

plugs →                Big USBA        small miniusbB

1.0 devices    (hub)                  (hub)

2.0 devices    yes host           otg *A

charging         no?                   yes? *mAh/s

PC              file transfer                  no

Something like that, note that i dont really know, i just guessed, ive tried once or twice to make sense of the cryptic info there. A table would be so much better.

Updated it to my ability. Reads a million times better now.

Don't know about the charging.   Dont know which port it uses. I know it can be set in softare to accept up to 1700 or was it 2000mAh? That is also not documented.

Last section of the guide, as slave, needs some work.

I'm not sure if Kingu meant to move that content to a different page or actually delete it and replace the functionality somewhere else, but it either way it appears he's failed to follow the procedure, and the list is still linked from the Emulators page that Kingu last edited.

I'm tempted to revert that change. It's not helpful to see that notice when you follow an apparently valid link, and it doesn't help that the notice claims the page will be blank and the change history will help, when neither is true, but I'll let him explain what he was trying to achieve before wielding executive powers.
