Pyra-tan?

let's all cool our jets a bit.  everyone's entitled to their opinion, especially on whether a certain piece of art is tasteful or tasteless (pornographic, stereotyping, encouraging weird ideas about human sexuality, etc.).  all art can be seen as objectifying something in some sense (e.g. reducing a human being to a bunch of pixels or pencil lines), however, so we should try to see if there is redeeming merit or beauty in them.  and we all have different perspectives on what is beautiful anyway.  (a similar business turned me off from working on my own mascot...)

another example like an omni-boobed pandora-tan:

south park (the TV show) is incredibly offensive on the surface, but has actually quite conservative values [imo the redeeming merit].  it puts people in horrible, over-the-top situations to make a point.  perhaps s17e10: The Hobbit is pursuant to the discussion.

It's OK to not like things, just don't be a dick about it.

I am all out of likes, and that upsets me.

Many of you would have received some likes from me... but I am being RESTRICTED!!!!!!

The dragon-hybrid I am playing with will certainly have pronounced cybernetic elements, not so much a suit per se, I want the form of the dragon to speak for itself..

I was aiming for androgynous...

...but I may have been irritated enough to emphasize curves and show a lot of scale...

If we can all take DaMummy's advice and live and let live, then I won't feel the urge to make a deliberately provocative artistic statement, and rather just contribute my time and skills towards a BIT OF FUN that this thread was actually created for.

P.s. The battle that is being fought, has it's place and is important and I will not knock that.... however bringing it into this thread just showed how stupid it can get and the danger of people who become so obsessed with their cause that they will fight it at any opportunity, even when it is out of place and inappropriate.

I find THAT rude.

Moderators are usually supposed to step in and split off de-railed discussions and/or calm down this sort of mess that's been created, not antagonize the situation by pushing their agenda.

Usually the moderators use bold green text when speaking/typing in an official capacity.  While I have been told not to derail some threads, usually the moderators let conversations develop naturally, especially in the off-topic section.

Exactly. Both Lora and I have moderator powers. If we were about to "suppress peoples creativity", "Push an agenda" or applying "Prudish censorship", then we could just remove stuff and ban people. We don't, because we don't. We are, however, allowed to voice our opinion, just like everyone else, when we don't have our moderating hats on.

I don't know, i think you've lost the point here. Try thinking of this as if your colleague got drunk but doesn't stare at anyones tops. Instead, he goes all out and does something completely unpredicted that at first might appear embarrassing, but ends up being fun and amusing (not in a bad way) for mostly everyone.

Yes, well...Except that it isn't fun. Just embarassing. And, unfortunately, not the least bit unpredictable or surprising. In my opinion, of course. Which is the opinion that I'm stating. If someone missed that detail.

On the other hand, I can't tell you how I laugh every time someone who can't stand seeing his own position being critizied starts yelling about "social justice warriors". It's hilarious :D

@Night :  "i highly doubt Løra was trying to act like one, she just voiced her opinion and it got off the wrong way for some reason.." - Exactly! Thank you.

So I would absolutely appreciate it if people wouldn't call me such things. Anyone who knows me knows I'm not an SJW, so don't sling titles like that at me just because you can't tolerate the fact I have an opinion, and am outspoken about such. Nor if can't form a mature coherent argument.

I'm pretty much done with this, to be honest. It's getting on my proverbial goat now.

To all those who took a fence...

... just doing a bit of gardening here.

I feel like I'm stating the obvious,

...but experience has proven that I am oft misunderstood.

Art that is literal, has no impact.

To understand my words, see them as punctuation addressing a more unified timeless field, where the circumstance of the moment, are but the canvas.

Perspectives, stances, reactive or supportive behavior is pushing paint around with a brush.

*and no good artist limits themselves to a narrow set of colours*

You are my interactive dynamic exponential artscape.

Yes, I did assume it would go just fine. I guess I don't post in the forums often enough to understand how intolerant certain people would be.. :(

And the moderators are a group intended to be sort-of policing the forums, as I understood it.

This mention of a lack of unicorn hats for them though, is deeply distressing.. :p

On a different note, I'm tired of fighting against this kind of intolerance. I don't care anymore... Continue running this thread into the ground all you want. I'll just check the forums from time to time for Pyra-tan sightings.

(I'm starting to understand why Prometheus left the forums a long time ago...)

I offer you this line in the sand. Please return to the original intent of the thread. Any further discussion of sexism and what constitutes it, etc, I would recommend starting a separate thread.

Inb4 PokeParadox thinks he can control this stroppy lot with his dotted red line. :p

Seriously though, I agree. Just because this is Off-Topic, it doesn't mean you can run a thread to ground with crap like you guys have. It's really disappointing, immature and not how this forum should be.

Nobody should have to wear fireproof pants here, everyone is welcome, all threads should somehow stay on-topic to what the post is.. If you have an opinion about something irrelevant (as how most threads turn out), start a new thread.. Don't derail another thread that someone has put effort into and has their own opinions.

If people can't follow these simple guidelines then we'll have to start dishing out more warning points and bans if we have to.

Wait for it. Right now it's more at the point where the said drunk person just claims something apparently emberaccing and procceds to ask someone to hold his beer.

If done right, i think there should be something fun emerging using the concept in this thread.

My main reason for wanting something like the suits in Metroid is that I am a huge science fiction fan, I love those types of suits, and for some reason I associate the Pyra with things like that.

So perhaps something like this could work, only without a helmet, more of a dragon theme and maybe a (light) science fantasy approach in-mind?

I really liked what you were doing.  If any of my comments were discouraging I am sorry.  If you decide to work on them again I am still willing to share what I like.

I think what you had in mind is what I wanted to see.  The suit I mentioned only applied to that one idea of a human.  I wanted to see a dragon in the style of some of your other stuff.

You also thought moderators were police without unicorn hats?

I really want to see one of these unicorn hats.  Maybe someone can add one to one of the pics they are working on.

Maybe.  I liked your last link a lot more, and feel it fit some of the ideas a bit better.

we'll have to start dishing out more warning points

I asked for some but no one likes me enough to give me any.  I will try harder.

There is nothing here that would really mandate a mod to lock down anything. If we banned annoying arguments the entire Pyra section would be missing.

Good point.  Can one of you get on that?

Perhaps the nubs on the tanning Pyra shouldn't look like they are glowing so that people might get the impression that the Pyra will have glowing nubs. ;)  (Must rain on all parades! :p  )

I appreciate that, so I doubt you were the one I was thinking of.  From a GNU/linux perspective, we all get to modify things to suit our tastes, so I understand that I'll get feedback on every little thing (though not always constructive).  It is nice to hear there was some interest, however!

Ahw... I still have some popcorn left :(

Srry, bad joke.. I love Anime/manga style, I have like forever.

As far as I'm concerned... Bring on the Tans!

I've argued this point before on these boards on a number of occasions - these images do nothing for the community or the image of geeks worldwide. Why do they have to be women? Why do they have such immature or unrealistic bodies? Why are their clothes either overtly "schoolgirl" or overtly sexual?

It really speaks volumes about the men that want this kind of thing. And even worse, they want to turn a piece of tech into something underage that they can shag. That's really worrying.

Agreeing with this. I mean, you guy can draw whatever you like but using something like that in any official capacity is just embarassing and makes anything hard to take seriously. I've not read the whole thread but I agree with whoever said it should be some sort of mythological creature. It should actually be a Dragon IMHO since Pyra suggests fire it could be breathing some.

EDIT: my quote didn't add properly, so I inserted it myself

Re-read the first message: it is not about having any official meanig. It is not a logo proposal.
