Gp2psx V0.33

Alot of progress has been made since I last tried this GP2X Psx emulator. I just wonder how far the progress can go if only one 200MHZ CPU can be utilised whether overclocked or not.

I hope dual CPU can some how be successfully used to further optimise this emulator but then I heard this was tried before with not much increase in speeds etc. I find myself constantly questioning the decision of designing a homebew portable with 2x 200MHZ CPUs as opposed to a single 400MHZ CPU since ports will not really be able to make use of it. Keep up the good work, I am interested to see how far this can go with regards to very playable emulation, I wonder if the recompiler can make use of the second CPU some how.

trying MGS, doesnt work with HLE, pretty slow up to the menu, selected VR missions, doesnt appear to load....ill try normal game

Volume Up: Displays framerate and raises the frameskip.

^ im doing that and its not showing framerate..

how can i rip movies out of the game? maybe normal game wont load because of the movie before it.

also, im not hearing any sound. :(

Final Fantasy 7 works? O_O

If it's anything like 15+ fps, then I'm sold, I'd BUY this emulator for that! Playstation 1 was only ever used for FF in my home, with the dawn of a suitable emulator on my handheld, my life is, once again complete! I am going out to buy FFVII again, so I can rip it for my GP2X, see you all again soon. (Four months, if it plays well ^_~)

guess its safe to say MGS doesnt work.

trying command and conquer retaliation now, could be one to add to the playable games list, as its not that graphically intensive.

incredible crisis (PAL) works at 4fps without HLE. Doesn't work with HLE

There's a display bug though. It draws the top 30 or so rows at the top again at the bottom.

no luck with Vagrant story or Azure Dreams. Both games fail to load

I got Azure Dreams to work. :p It has the aforementioned display bug, though.

"Volume Up: Displays framerate and raises the frameskip.

stickbutton+R

"also, im not hearing any sound. sad.gif"

I got no sound from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, or what it's name is, tried again, got sound. Sure you got the "with sound"-version? :p

Worked at about 2-4 FPS. :p

yes i have the with sound version.

just tried C&C retaliation, works, and can go ingame, sound works, framerate was 4, i tried increasing frameskip but it seemed to just make the game go slower?

i also have that weird bug where the top 30 lines seem to be repeated at the bottom of the screen.

oh yeah. no load with hle

a tutorial on how to replace movies in games with dummy 0 sec long movies would be nice..i cant fit any bigger games on my sd card unless i delete stuff, and i dont want to.

The sound version is currently unstable, I made some changes to it and it should be more compatible in "v0.33b with sound" which will be released shortly. I recommend using v0.33 without sound to test whether games work for now.

To rip videos out of games, use PocketISO 2.0 at www.fpsece.net.
It will let you rip music as well, but I recommend only ripping videos and compressing to .Z format (normal compression with no musics selected). :)

Place the .Z and .Z.table files on the GP2X's SD card and load the .Z file. :)

I'll test Vagrant Story in a second.

how exactly do you rip movies using pocket iso, there not really any clear option, do i just compress using "normal" compression?

Hello ^^
great news about this Psx emu

so far i tried
Parodius forever with me wich took a long time to load
and i don't know if it worked correctly
and i tried bishi bashi Special it was running but pretty slow
but sound was working Ok

i tried both iso's with the Sound enabled emu

Keep up the Good work :)

bishi bashi! great party game :)

i was nearly in game with RE2 and the bloody AC adaptor fell out.
try again...

@zodttd: i used Normal Compression on RE2 and it made the disc 400 mb from 700mb, but theres still movies when i run the game, how do i rip the movies?

anyhow, i managed to finally get RE2 ingame, runs too slow to be playable but i managed to shoot a zombie twice before i got bore of waiting ;)

i just played Sexy Parodius
it took me about half an hour to compleet mission 1
the CornBoss :p

anyhow the game still looks awesome on the little screen ^^
just love it

The linux is limiting the second processor... If they or us fix it, then we will be able to get more speed.

Hi everyone,

Grab GP2PSX v0.33b at:
http://www.friggingames.com/gp2psx033b.zip

I did a slight update to GP2PSX and it's now at version 0.33b.
New in this release:
- Updated the SPU (sound engine) code so many more games work with sound.
- Slight increase in performance when sound/music is enabled.
- Added button config to enable disable sound/music:
Push Stick + Vol Down = toggle music on/off
Push Stick + Vol Up = toggle all sounds on/off
- Changed button config for L2/R2 and Frameskip:
Push Stick + Left Trigger = L2
Push Stick + Right Trigger = R2
Vol Down = Lower Frameskip
Vol Up = Raise Frameskip
- GP2PSX now honors the "correct" coords of the current frame. This means some more games will display properly and hopefully others won't have issues with this.
- The file menu now works correctly. The bug where not all directories could be traversed, has been fixed. Digging through that ugly code wasn't fun. :p
- Removed HLE option until I get it working again.
- Set frameskip default to 0

I'd like to know if anyone is having better or worse compatibility with v0.33b over v0.33.
Please keep in mind all musics and sounds are turned on when a game starts, disable them with the button config above if you want the performance boost of not using sound. :)

I'm putting together everyones tips for ripping their games into one lil package to include with the next release. I'd like to thank those who have donated in some form to the GP2PSX project. I really appreciate the feedback I've been getting from the GP2X community. I have two people putting a good effort into writing a dynamic recompiler for my PSX ports to the GP2X as well as the Zaurus. Also I've received some great help with finding bottlenecks in the GPU code, which hopefully will give a performance boost.

Oh yeah, one thing I didn't fix was the movie playback timing, which also affects the sound playable during it. That's why things are a bit choppy. It'll be fixed asap.

Thanks,
ZodTTD
