Got an email with the link for batch 2 ordering [I hope you don't mind, but I've removed the link for the moment, pending being able to get the view of the other moderators on this. I'm not one for censorship, but requests for a link to not be posted aren't a common thing to come across. --Prometheus]

I'm bored and noticed it hadn't been posted on here yet at so thought I might as well.

Hello everyone, Craig here,

Great news! As many of you will already know the Pandora finally started
shipping in May and after a few teething problems we are about to ship
the 1000th unit. We aim to keep it at the top with near continuous software
tweaks and updates.

Early production issues were identified, fixed and production continued,
we're now speeding up the building of the next 3000.

The Pandora is assembled in England. People building the Pandora are paid a
real wage and live normal 9-5 lives. This is a very important step for us so
we hope you will consider it when deciding to buy your next console, we hope
you will tell your friends about it too.

You can already see the user generated software of games, emulators and
utilities growing at our application site:

http://apps.open-pandora.org

And a quick search on youtube brings you dozens of user reviews and videos
of software in action, Ed also made a current Pandora software overview here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPyzC1NFkJE

We also now have an official forum : http://boards.openpandora.org/

The Pandora OS is totally open - we have issued 4 firmware updates already
and aim to keep that going until it is as good as it can possibly be, the
latest update allows overlocking to around 1Ghz on most units.

We want to thank you all for sticking with us though what was an
astonishingly complex project. As many of you will know the Pandora has
been sold out since last year, however batch 2 ordering is now
available for those of you who now want a Pandora.

We will work as fast as we can to ship as many as possible from batch 2
before Christmas, you can order one here:

[Link removed for the moment, as per my note above. --Prometheus]

That's a private URL for newsletter subscribers, please don't post post in
forums / public. This newsletter is going out much more slowly (less than
500/day) so you can have a chance to order without there being a major
rush on them.

Want to help the project but don't know how? Maybe you know someone who is
interested in these kinds of devices that you could tell? The Pandora
project does not have an advertising budget so any help you can give is
always welcome.

Time to get back to work for us,

Thanks to everyone

-Craig & team

PS my iPhone game is here if anyone is interested: http://bit.ly/ceyHGq, it's
how I pay the bills.

Haven't they been taking orders from the "Where to buy" page for a while now? I preordered from batch 2 over two months ago.

They have, but via email enquiry only. There is a shop link now, but they don't want it flooded. (Nor do all the first batchers who need email support from the same two people handling second batch orders.)

I've cleaned the link up in several other posts now  If anyone else is thinking about posting it, please don't. Communications with OPT will grind to a halt for everyone.

But why tell people to keep something quiet, and then post it on your own website? And everyone here has already known for a while that 2nd batch preordering started, why would they suddenly get flooded now?

I figure they're much more likely to get a flood of orders when there's a site with a shopping cart, as opposed to people having to email and ask how to order.

Gosh, the part about the Pandora being assembled in UK by people who receives normal wages almost made me throw up... so demagogic and intentionally misleading... I assume the ones doing 90 per cent of the assembly process in China and USA have also those conditions, isn't it?

I think the've made a good comprimise here. They would'nt have been able to make the mould for the cases in England since that would have cost too much money for this small project. So once they've got the mould and the first batch of cases they'll move the production of the cases elsewhere.

I think kikeminchas is talking more about the need to put that paragraph in at all. To be honest I don't think many people would see it as a selling point, not with that wording anyway.

'Proudly assembled in England' - good, and true enough to get away with

'Proudly not assembled in that other craphole' - not so good. (Not that it actually says that, but it does, if you know what I mean.)

Yeah, well, we all know that assembling in England was not the original plan.

The Pandora would've been assembled in 'that other craphole' if it had been possible to find cheap labor that wasn't totally incompetent.

it's a while since i've heard the US of A called 'that other craphole', but given what seems to emanate out of it it seems fair comments in some ways.

I don't think he's referring to the US. He may be referring to the place where certain other handhelds are made, or the other place where most everything is manufactured. But I don't think Craig intended that. English people are just really nationalistic, I've noticed.

Well, only thing coming from China are the cases here. Everything else is from US or UK.
