Ipad: What Do People Here Think Of It?

Apple has a great plan for making cash, and while their system of selling costumers a locked down device that can only be loaded with pre-approved programs (you know it's the real reason behind no flash. 97% of the appstore is based on flash games or replicated in them, for free) great for them and content providers, it's horrible for consumers. Much of this hype is being generated by the content providers themselves, print is dying and they are all jumping onto the iPad as a last resort.

On top of it being an over sized iPod Touch specs-wise, the capacitive screen limits its viewability because of glare and with no pressure sensitivity or stylus option kills any use an art student would have had for it.

This tablet though? http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/06/icds-tegra-2-powered-gemini-is-the-most-feature-complete-tablet/ - Yes please.

It's the perfect solution to a problem no one had.
Do you need to be able to access the web on a big high resolution screen while snorting a line of coke off of a cheap hooker's asscrack? Now you can!
But I've always been able to do that with my normal flat panel.
I could even use the mouse on her boobs... The iPad has no mouse.

with tegra2 and weight seemingly comparable this should blow out the iPad hardware wise. Wonder what the cost is?

Maybe the lack of Flash support on Apple devices will be a good thing because Flash is a CPU hog and is buggy.
Alternative technologies like HTML5 can replace it slowly. Workaround like Youtube app makes Flash unnecessary for videos.

Yeah, I like that Apple is doing this for whatever reason. They have the popularity to steer people away from Flash just by saying "We don't support it".
But do they have HTML5 <video> on the iStuff yet?

The article suggests "a price comparable with the entry-level iPad."

The problem with Flash is that it is being used extensively in the web. Sure, you're relieved of all those shitty ads, but poor suckers can't go see Retarded Animal Babies on Newgrounds.

Anyways, credit for the screen working after smashing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAl28d6tbko

Its funny how huge apple fans are now talking about the open standard of html5 yet apple pretty much never supports open standards. I mean I agree that flash has been kind of overused and does slow things down but I wouldn't see html 5 being a complete replacement any time soon. Also, while youtube has an app not every site out there that uses flash has an app to get around flash.

Crapple used to be cool but now they just plain sux.

Now they got a bit too big and they just go around stealing other peoples ideas, patent them then dare anyone to challenge them and all of their billions. "yeah we stole your idea, now waddya gonna do about it? Now go blow little boy! We are the mighty Crapple, We own the world, now piss off before we find somthin' to sue you for"

All of their devices are just closed money suckers that you can't do what you want or put content that you want on it. You need to go through their draconian bloated bug-bomb iTunes filter of death to get anything on their shit. No USB, NO expandable flash memory (so they can charge you $200.00 for 16GB extra storage). Big fat MEH! Crapple=total asshats.

Microsoft is worse than Apple. Hopefully Google won't turn out like them. SONY is bad too.

No I think Apple has passed Microsoft in the asshattery race to the bottom.

Prime example:

I bought an album through iTunes (don't do it any more) Their crappy software bugged out while downloading (I use Windows, Apple saw fit to punish me for it). Of course the part that charges my bank account worked perfectly. Now I don't have the album or my money. I called them and waited the 1/2 hour after tricking their automated "piss off don't bother us" phone menu into talking with a real human. They said they refunded me, they didn't.

Microsoft on the other hand has their Xbox live DL service set up so that if you buy a download you can re-download the same thing to your unit as many times as you want. I think their Zune service may be similar (not sure) So if your download bugs out your HDd needs re-formatting or something you can just re-download the app. Not so with Apple, you would have to either navigate the Apple phonemaze of death and beg for a credit or pay for the download again.

Interesting. Should be pretty open, I guess:

Good luck to Hard Kernel for going against the big players.

Maybe they'll make it developer-focused too. :p
