Dear Alec, I'm using your OP news service right since the beginning! It's great! Thanks!
I want to report a bug: In the recent days, some of the links lead to forum pages's with no trace to the intended post!

Examples of bad links at http://alec.mooo.com/lol/cxs.php retrieved on 2010-05-12:

May 12 08:58:35: craigix: It is probably just via a load of SD cards yes.
May 12 11:55:06: craigix: As soon as I have some more information I'll let you ...

Unfortunately, yes that happens, and it's actually due to a forum bug: for long threads, the forum somehow gets confused with the permalinks and sends you to a page after the one containing the actual post.

To illustrate the point, if you click one of the links you posted, and go on the previous page (page 8), you'll find Craig's post. Now, click the little number next to it (on the right), and it will pop up a link. If copy the url and then visit it, it will send you to page 9. So as you can see, the problem is that there is no reliable way to link to a post. And if the forum itself can't find the post, there's very little I can do :(

(The interesting thing is when the script initially finds a new post, it actually follows that link to the actual page to get the date, which means that at that point the link was still correct)

So the only solution is, if it doesn't send you to the right post, just go back one page and you'll find it there.

I decided to add the super secret invisible link. :) Go to the Links page (More...), it's at the bottom underneath the last.fm link, to the far left. Shhh!

Hahaha, that's pretty great. Took me a minute to find it; doubt anyone will ever find that without actually knowing it's there.

That's the point of it, isn't it? If you forget the url, you know where to look ;)

I've become very adept at clicking on the invisible link. After enough times you remember exactly where it is!

Haha, I guess some people really like that link

In the past week:
Code:
count unique referrer
566 41 http://pandorapress.net/links/

Could it be that this is related to deleted posts? Is it maybe that the forum software simply does not take into account deleted posts when calculating these direct links? So when a moderator deletes one post, the link is off by one post, when there are two deleted post it's off by two posts etc. Until it's off by one whole page and that's when you notice it.

Most likely. Although it's enough to delete just one post to cause that, if the linked post is the first post on the page.

How about pinned and closed?

The only thing relevant is the link on the first page, the rest is not keeping track of much.

EDIT:

This would seem better pinned IMO

This looks very good.

I read today EvilDragon messages. But its didn't reflect on http://alec.mooo.com/lol/cxs.php
Something is broken

I'm pretty sure that it's working as it should. From the first post;

If it's not being updated, I suspect it's either not time yet, or Alec's computer isn't on. :p

Then logically, perhaps Alec's computer isn't on. :p

Correct! :) There was a power outage at night, and it shut down.

1) Thanks for the explanation! I had been unable to realize this cause!
2) You may add a little help/FAQ section at the site, which explains, what you just explained here, can be very helpful!
