Apologies if this has already been answered and I've missed it, but what's the deal with the battery tray thing? (the bit of plastic with the Pandora logo on that the the battery is resting on in the pictures).

Also, the pictures look very nice indeed! (Liking the depth of field ED!)

Spare batteries come with a protective box with the Pandora logo on it.

That's awesome, you guys really went that extra mile. I actually ordered an extra battery, and I'm glad to see I have some place to store it. The Pandora, battery storage case, tv out cables just speak quality. You all deserve a HUGE THUMBS UP! Great pics Ed, can't wait for some high quality vids. Alright, everything looks great, but lets get this done, and shipped out to customers. I just got my spot in line 250-350, so I'm pulling my hair out waiting on this thing. HURRY, HURRY, HURRY! ;)

Very good pictures indeed, the most detail we've seen of a production Pandora yet. But if you look closely at a few, you can see that the left side of the battery lid is damaged. Was this due to shipping?

Where do you think it's damaged? Because I know it isn't.

You can see that the battery lid, near the shoulder button, is deformed. Just saying, not meaning to detract from the device. These photos could be considered Panda-porn.

yeah what's up with the shoulder buttons they do seem to be sticking out too far... and check out this image: http://www.open-pandora.org/images/phocagallery/Recent/Photos/FinishedPandora/PandoraLED.JPG

the led cover doesn't seem to.. fit the hole properly.. looks really bad :/

Are you guys seriously nitpicking on such small details? The whole thing looks awesome and really high quality to me- I'm not sure what's the matter with some people. But most likely your tune will change once you have one in your hands- these are really small details you are picking at and you'll probably not even notice them when you have the real unit. At the very least the functional bits will be far better than the Wiz, or any of the other "open" consoles ( for instance the dpad, action buttons, and nevermind the fact that it has the best analog nubs ever made). This thing is absolutely going to play like a dream, and isn't that what really matters?

Honestly, that looks like the case got snagged on something, and got tweked a little bit. Nothing major. This device could have half the quality, and it would still "KICK ASS"! If someone is looking for sexy perfection, please go buy an Iphone. That's how that item is marketed and sold. Let's focus on shipping and delivery at this point. I do case mods myself, so I'm willing to even assemble my own units if possible! Think it would be fun!

if it's not possible to have the finished product looking fine, then why design it like that? it sounds like you are saying I should be happy that it looks shit just because that's how it was made? lol.

I didn't say it looked like shit, nor that you should be happy with it. In my opinion it does look fine, in fact I was expressing that it looked natural for what it is and that expecting changes to occur now are unrealistic as is asking why they designed it that way. It wasn't built like a PSP where a clear piece of plastic is painted from the inside so that the lights are flush on the outside as part of the case.

You forget that it's still a sample and has neither the final finish, nor is it from a large tweaked production run ;)
Also don't forget the scale. These pictures are really zoomed in. Using my DS as a scalereference, the gap we see between the pipe and the case is about a papers width.
I don't see the damage that someone else mentioned. I see something that looks like a light reflection in the second picture. Is that what we're talking about?
The left shoulder button does seem a little "out". The right is fine though, so I'm not sure what to make of that. Could be nothing, we shall see.

edit: word choice.

Ah, I see. Hard to tell. Could have just snagged on something, and it's such a small thing no one noticed until we were looking at it in SUPER HUGE DEFINITION! :D

Odd, mine isn't like that, I guess it is just damaged.

Hey Craig, do you have a confirmation that those new test parts have actually shipped yet?

This is the same photo at approximately actual size (depending on your screen's dot pitch):

Does it still "look shit"?

You zoom in that close on just about any product and you'll start seeing apparent flaws.
Look at the poor fit of the volume buttons and case corner on this shot!

And you know how the big companies maintain a perfect finish on their publicity shots?
Photoshop.

But the part that rankles about your post isn't the observation or the criticism, it's just the way you went about it.
If you'd said "I'm a bit disappointed the fit wasn't better on the light pipes", then so be it.

But instead you said it "looks really bad", "looks shit" and you're apparently "not happy".
That leaves an implicit "what are you going to do about it?"

Well... what do you expect them to do about it?
Would you like to cancel your order, or do you think they should they send the case back for another round of revisions?

That light pipe complaint is almost as bad as the button legend arrangement complaint.

I can't either. I'm pinging it now and it's dropping packets. Maybe overload from those pics. Which I haven't seen yet. *jealous*
Oh and downforeveryoneorjustme says it's down too.

Hang in there, I'm re-hosting them right now...

[edit] Done. They're not full size, but they should do the job. :)
