Psp Emulation On Pandora

Not really a boost, since most of PSP games are not that good or are remakes of PS1 games.
When Pandora will get native 3D games that are better than PSP ones, then that will be a real boost to the Pandora!
Quit lying the Psp has many awesome games (in my opinion) I like Final Fantasy Dissdidia, Daxter, Sonic Rivals, Ratchet and Clank Size Matters, Tekken Dark Resurrection, and God of War Chains of Olympus.

I just want Gitaroo Man.

Bit harsh really :(

Any idea if the PSP emulator *could* ever play commercial games? I was under the impression that the Pandora wasn't powerful enough to achieve playable speeds...

Doesnt the PSP tap out at about 3 gigahertz? I dont think the Pandora could Emulate that.
You mean 222 mhz if I'm right underclocked from 333 mhz

 3Ghz??? Find me a commercially available ARM or MIPS CPU that runs at 3Ghz and I'll give you...uh...a Pandora

it isn't illegal to to talk about piracy because almost everyone at gp32x.de engages in it some how.
Do you realise that you just said that thousands of people engage in piracy just because they've registered an account at gp32x.de? Wow, just wow.
* People using emulators can(/should) use PD roms and/or dump their own roms.
* Now with the pandora theres a lot of (not sure, but i think so) people who plan to use their only/first open handheld primaly as a MID / linux hacking device.

Woohoo I think this thread found a new tangent to go off in...
Yeah noticed. It seems that recently no thread (except quotes for the blog and porndora...) has had the ability to stay in one topic, but noticing the current circumstances i can understand that and not really worried about it at all. I'm hoping that this will change when we all have our pandoras.
Well I don't think rom piracy is a bad thing I do it to in fact I have no problem with it even if you don't originally own the games because the majority of the games on rom sites you can't buy any more! The law on this subject is very weird because the dmca is very poorly written and says you can and can't do something I don't want to dive into that. But most people buy these systems for emulators not for native games and emulating commercial roms is technically illegal and legal at the same again conflicting copyright laws so matter what you can't legally obtain a rom everybody says they don't play emulators but they do.

Debatable, maybe maybe not, some maybe playable others not, it's probably one of those border line cases that we truly wont know what can be done until it's tried. But don't hold your breath.

Some guy in his 20's from Australia unleashed the ROM for Super Mario Bros Wii. He was the first to do it, just before official launch. Many downloads, then it was closed after a few days. The system tracked his IP and found him. He owned the game too, so I don't know how he got his copy. Nintendo was fast and sued him. He owes Nintendo over $1M in "damages".

In other news, Nintendo's stocks have increased another 8 points this fiscal year.

Go figure.

Follow-up:

How to beat the system:

  1. Research: I would've give myself an alias then found many different upload/download sites.
  2. Goal: Then, at several different public computers, I would've, using a different username, created accounts AND, using different file names, upload the ROM.
  3. Identity: Each time I'd be alone, dressed to conceal my face/identity, use computers at sources you wouldn't.
  4. Broadcast: I would then use another public computer to link the URL to many websites, with my alias, only for one of the download sources. In the same manner as step 3.
  5. Watch: You can check by accessing the URL (public computers) and if it eventually gives you an error it means its been shot down. Also look fat internet news blogs to see your success e.g. Engadget blog
  6. Continue: Once the link died, repeat step 4, posted on other semi-famous blogs.
  7. Bask: Keep it a secret (never reveal), but reward your awesomeness. Don't worry, with this many leaks others would continue your legacy ;)

See now there is no link between you the ROM creator, the uploader and the broadcaster.

The only chance the police would have to catch you would be if:
1) you tell them, well don't do it!
2) if you use a computer (net) where; its one you own, its your friend's, your recognized, if you used it before (footage) or if you had a companion present.
3) if you slip-up, and the police get a picture of your face.
4) Police are psychic
5) Refer to #1

Can I get the brilliant minds from GP32X to add more to this "method" if its not perfect. Remember pirates are your friends =)

Something I've been curious about. The only PSP game I was interested in. Patapon. To this layman it seems very simple. Would that fit in the category outside 'most games (those that won't be playable)'.

It's just a curiosity for me. I thought the cost of a PSP and a game is a little too steep just to play that game. Of course, I didn't know anything about homebrew back then.

Patapon is also very unlikely in the near future:

- High firmware version required iIrc
- Probably uses bezier curves to draw most things, just like Loco-Roco
- Depends on working audio (if the important sound effects are AT3Plus you are out of luck, AT3 does partly work and Wave is just out of sync [and currently disabled])
- I don't own it, nor do I really like it (can borrow it from a friend anytime soon)

//Edit: And these are just the reasons why I won't work on it in the near future. Once work starts on it, other things could (and most likely will) become problems.

Right now I focus on games I like and those which either still have debug symbols OR those which are using low firmware versions (/ depend on old libraries and use fewer system calls).

Homebrew wise Sudoku and Breakout work flawless so far. Commercial wise Puzzle Bobble (J) was working partly.
I want to have at least Puzzle Bobble working flawless before a 1.0 release. ATV Offroad Fury Pro also seems very realistic to me.

The problem is usually not the firmware emulation for these games. I support most system calls (except those for networking and audio) and I have documented a lot of the graphics hardware - it's just about implementing that and it will most likely be close to perfect (graphics wise).
However, when a game is loaded I check the games code for unknown instruction and firmware functions (wether they are called or not) and most games don't complain about missing instructions or functions.
Some major problems are correct relocation (which I cloned from the PSPSDK), thread emulation and instructions which are implemented but behave wrong in certain situations (especially VFPU emulation).
Another problem is the dynarec framework which adds way too much overhead at times. However, I mainly focus on compatibility for now.

Dude even if it is only a few games it is nice to see I'm sure we will see some more games get emulated by the time the pandora is out but other wise thank you I really appreciate it I would donate if I had paypal or something.

So Monster Hunter, God of war, Burnout (probably the best platformer I've played in age), GTA vice and liberty city are all ps1 remakes? Oh along with Crisis core?

You've listed 6 titles out of thousands. Most usually means more than half. When you list off 1000 titles that are entirely original AND good, you may have a case ;)
I'm just bugging you. He may not be that far off literally when saying that most are not good or just remakes of PS1 games, but the same can be said the DS; most are not good or just remakes of NES/SNES/GB games. The key point of the argument still stands though: original 3D games running natively will be better in the long run for the Pandora than PSP emulation.
