Just put on the archive the first version of Step2X a StepMania clone.
It can open DWI files (with only OGG music, no mp3 for the moment)

i still have to handle difficulty level, read mp3, and make a menu ;)

enjoy

Impressive for a first release, Naroin! Now I'm not sure to keep working on Beat2X... :)
eh no, i didnt do this to stop you!
i wanted to make a competitor so we can have real good dance games on the gp2x :)
or maybe we could make a "fusion", with two modes: i like the use of L & R buttons, but it cant be done with standard dwi files
but we cant use L&R if we want to be able to press 2 buttons on the pad at a time...
complicated.

Oh, I didn't mean that. Just that yours looks very good already. But yeah, I'll probably keep working on mine as Misato and Puck2099 are working on reading DWI. Btw, you say you want your game to be able to read MP3 files in a future. Do you know which library you're going to use?

if you want you can have a look in my StepSong.cpp file, in the function loadDWI :)
its not totally finished, miss some keywords
i got the doc on http://dwi.ddruk.com/readme.php#4

for mp3 support i wanted to simply use sdl_mixer, because it SHOULD read it.
but it dont.
i dont know why.
(grr)

Thanks! I'm sure ^MiSaTo^ and Puck2099 will check your code.

is it possible to support SM files type?

yes it will
but mp3, menu, difficulty level & score saving are more important for the moment

miq01. Please dont stop with beat2x releases. In 3 weeks, I will be done with my major exams, plus enough money to hopefully buy a new GP2x.

For this game, how do I play it from top and bottom like beat2x, instead of left and right? Also, how do I use combined controls like in beat2x? And how to add backgrounds for the songs, like in original Step Mania?

I hope that Beat2x development continues, it's a solid program with a lot of good pick-up-and-play-ability. The only real thing it seems to need is to precache the OGG file into RAM so there is no skipping of the arrows' movement.

I'd doubly hope for this, since a further influx of Beat2x packs means lot of music to plug into my shooter engine, which I am designing with a module to load those files and generate enemy bullet patterns based on them. I'd probably release that separate from the actual game, as a sort of toy or special feature .. should be a lot of fun. :)

you CANT play in a normal position simply because it wont be possible to press 2 buttons at a time, so it wont be possible to play...
there also wont be combined control, because it will stay in left-right view, so no need

background images will be added, one day

you can prefer beat2x, but my aim was to add choice, now you have.

As much as I love this project, what the hell are you talking about?

How does making the arrows go bottom to top effect if you can hit two buttons at once? I can't hit two buttons at once as it is..... Wait a second? (Revolation)

Am I supposed to rotate the system?............... I can't believe i just figured that out. Did anyone else know that?

Well I still would not mind a beat2x style dual bottons, this should work.

The features I would like:
-Mp3 suport
-Difficulty (I can't even play this game right now, but maybe if I rotate it)....
-Backgroud support
-Cool menu with banners
-.SM support
- Magic usb dance pad support with tv-out (if you can do that you will be demned god by me)

Man, I would love to have Stepmania in my room.

Keep up the good work man!

Edit: added "out" on to tv, to make it tv-out
